Hello friends

I have been noticing one thing. after the huge success of witcher 3. many developers are now adopting 2 things. open world and RPG elements in every game. the grinding, levelling up, damage sponges is getting norm now.

there has been many times when certain game get blame for runing other genre like COD ruined FPS and gears of war ruined TPS by introducing cover system and thus killed TPS for good.

when ubisoft released assassins creed and it success, they decide to turn all thier games into AC clone as a result far cry, ghost recon, watch dogs become same open world games with far cry taking place as assassins creed of FPS. before that ubisoft used to released quality titles like old splinter cell.

now ubisoft also decide to turn thier flagship series into RPG by introducing RPG elements into assassins creed and make it even worse than it was before as they want to make thier own version of witcher 3. infact RPG assassins creed made originals feel like masterpiece. then far cry also add RPG elements and even wolfenstein added RPG elements.

so my friends is this highly critical acclaim game to be blame for introducing RPG elements into almost every game? lets discuss in civilized way my friends.

Nah. Plenty of things I dislike about TW3, but not gonna put that blame on it.

RPG elements creeping into other genres has been going on for years, steadily increasing.

Same with open world design.

These things were in motion well before TW3, and there wasn't some surge post TW3.

but after post TW3 we have seen more and more games adopting this lazy and tedious design.

we fans have been waiting for pure action game like Max payne 3 but we wont because developers are only interested in open world and RPG.

Anyways ghosts, best to just stop expecting great things from AAA Hollywood. Those games don't even register as part of the same hobby for me anymore, who gives af what's happening with Ass Creed?

Occasionally I'll put up with a bit of nonsense to enjoy an otherwise great game. Stuff like Nioh and its loot shit for example. But every game I've played this year has been good shit, and none of it had jank open world or rpg elements.

theres the reason why only non FPS game would interest me is next Batman game.

No. Action games and action-adventures were already pushing RPG elements long before TW3. COD4 had already popularised RPG elements in FPS back in 2007. And before that, DMC popularised RPG elements in action games back in 2001.

For sure man.

If we just disregard what all these other genres are doing, and ignore the fact that there are other action games way better than Batman, that also do it with less padding.

Yeah, absolutely.

so a game with lets see i put in 300 hours in witcher 3 and still not done is a lazy and tedious. but yet a 6 hour game like max payne is not? making an open world game with hardrive is a feat in it's self. just that part alone is not lazy. if you played witcher 3 you will realize there side quest are different from one another. even has a story behind them. now if you said assassin creed then maybe i would have giving you credit.

Looks like one of them "lower than lowest" settings.

Honestly loved TW3 not sure why you put so much blame in it when most of the evolutions that came from TW3 were pretty positive ( non linear side quest, better world building etc.

What do you mean by RPG elements?... And how exactly is it ruining games?

You are the definition of click bait, you title your threads with a point but then your opening comment on the subject goes no where.

The irony is that The Witcher 3 was a massive step up from the lazy, generally awful design of other popular open world games and RPGs.

The Witcher 3 showed that you can fill an open world game with content that is every bit as good as the best linear games. It was revolutionary, and there hasn't been an open world game since then that has been at the same level of quality.

Nope, they have been here long before the witcher .

And no the rpg elements are a plus for a game not the other way around imo.

Your love for Fps is fine, but come on, no need to expect all games to carry up that design.

Diversity is good even if you happen to hate it!!!!

No.

The Witcher 3 was if anything trying to push games in a direction where the side content open world stuff had more quality to them. Sadly games like that are still very rare.

Most of the moving towards open world RPG stuff in the modern era is usually credited to Skyrim more than anything. Remember how every game was seemingly inspired by that game?

And for the record.

Open World Pseudo-RPGs are not even the most oversaturated thing. Tribal Wars clones are. Especially with Clash of Clans booming like it did.

Big negative there chief. If we're talking strictly presentation, writing, n story quality. Sure, props to CDPR. The playing it part even if we ignored Geralts combat kit, would not stack up favorably to the best linear games.
