Mario's pretty awsome.

I dunno, total war warhammer seemed alright, bit rough around the edges, but alright. I am also looking forward mount and blade bannerlord. Battlefleet gothic and blood and wine were also quite good. Most other games released this year were pretty average. I would say this is a ok year.
Disappointment ? Hardly.
Witcher 3 Blood and Wine and deus ex MD ( minus the idiotic microstransaction policies ) alone made it a great year
Add to that a new Civilization game and its shaping up to be a great year
Also Xcom 2, a successful doom , a new homeworld, overwatch and Dark souls 3.
I think this is the best year of this gen
@AzatiS: You know it. Everyone loves Mario. Well almost everyone, there are whiners and haters who dont.
I agree WHERES my final fantasy tactics 2 square?
Wheres my contra/castlevania/megaman why aren't they making some kick ass indies.
I AM SICK Of konami and capcom and nintendo and square.
THE ONLY GOOD games dragonquest 7 that game looks good good job ENIX you know what your doing you have bearings so does the persona 5 dev he knows what hes doing.
not really. Sure we've had some flops, I seen titanfall 2 get COD-ized. But overall it hasn't been that bad. Quantum break is good, Doom is good, Overwatch is good, Recore so far is good, We still have gears 4, DR4, and south park coming out. Overall it's been on par with most years in gaming.
I'm pretty sure the definitive saddest year of gaming was that one fateful Christmas where E.T. came out and almost singlehandedly destroyed the video game industry (there were other factors sure, but E.T. is such an easy punching bag)
We got Uncharted, Overwatch, Deus Ex, and soon Final Fantasy 15....and none of them have ruined gaming substantially....so, its not all that bad...
No way, the year the PS4 and Xbox One launched was horrid (2013???) and 2014 was pretty bad too.
Dark Souls 3, South Park Fractured ButtWhole, Pokemon Sun/Moon, Doom, Battlefield 1, Uncharted 4, Ratchet and Clank, Forza Horizon 3.
I could go on
Doom and Deus Ex MD already made this year Great. infact Doom is best FPS since Stalker or Crysis 1.
@ghosts4ever: Not really
I have not played any FPS since Stalker/Crysis that was that good. or even to some extent Half life 2. Game is truly masterpiece. Its a return of old school FPS. ID software did excellent job.
Every true gamer should try it.

It's not like Crysis was any good

but we are talking about Doom not Crysis.
Doom cant be surpass in future for long time. unless 4A games made next Metro pure Stalker like sandbox or new Prey turn out as good as System shock 2.

Will probably be surpassed by the next CoD or BF1
Saddest year in video games? No, not by a long shot. Is this the year of saddest gamers? Very possibly!
Here are just some of the really stellar releases that have already arrived this year (at least, the ones I'm personally familiar with):
And that's just a very small sampling.
2016 has been, so far, a great year for video games. We're living in a really, really good time for gaming, and it's getting better and better. The above list doesn't even factor in all the exciting stuff about VR - whether it's Occulus Rift and Vive or even PSVR, this is the first year where we're seeing truly mass market style VR technology released; how on Earth could that be considered "sad"?
As gamers, I think we need a bit of a wake-up call. Not only are things not so bad (and perhaps we've become more than a little entitled...) - things are actually great. We just have to open our eyes to that. :-)
@Liquid_: The previous games under preformed and these have had barely any hype.
I guess that would depend on if you are basing this off your standards or the majority.
Mafia 2, Dishonored and Shadow Warrior were widely praised from what I remember.
@Liquid_: I didnt say they werent good, i said they under-performed and the new ones have hardly no hype. These games arent cheap to make. They eventually have to make some money of them.

I guess I'm not seeing the imaginary connection from hype/money to under performing.
2016 has been a pretty good year. You want sad? Nothing will ever be sadder than 2014. Dragon Age Inquistion and Shadow of Mordor were winning GOTY awards...
@NathanDrakeSwag: Yeah i know, i was pissed Bayonetta 2 or Kirby Triple Deluxe didnt win. Thats Gamespot for you, stupid as fack. Smash Bros and Mario Kart 8 got passed over too. Was the worst GOTY ever.
