In terms of hardware, I find the Vita to be a better-designed game machine than the later two systems.

It has better specs than 3DS and it's screen resolution is higher than that of the WiiU.

It's a fully portable system, it uses cartridges and it's features actually seem appealing rather than gimmicky, if used right.

It also costs considerably less than the WiiU and only slightly more than a 3DS.

It's also combatible with the PS3 and has a sleek design.

The only thing missing is TV output and the analog sticks could be a little bigger.

I think the system would sell much better if it got it's price reduces and if it got more "killer-apps". (why are there still no exclusive Gran Turismo, MGS, GTA and God of War games on Vita?)

It's basically the portable system that eliminates the need for a home console, in some regards.

And that is what I think the platform Nintendo would need is.

Discuss. :D

And to elaborate on my earlier post: a system is only as good as its games. On that front, the Vita handily bests the four month old Wii U, but is completely and thoroughly outdone by the 3DS.

In terms of tech? Its better but I guess one could argue they like the two screens and the 3D on the 3DS better. Personally I don't care about the 3D and the dual screen only really adds a lot to a select few of the games that I played on the DS at least. I terms of games it can go either way and it depends on what you're interested in. I disagree with the last part, I'd rather the differentiate between home consoles and handhelds. Not to say that I wouldn't want home console games on the handhelds, I just wouldn't want them to be the focus.

But that is the thing - 3DS is praised because of it's games and lower price, not because of it's features.

In terms of specs and features, the Vita is "head and shoulders" above the 3DS. (unless you want to make a big deal out of the 3D effect)

I mean, the 3DS doesn't even have a 2nd analog stick...

However, the Vita is designed around downloading, but comes with no memory out of the box, and to get the memory, you have to pay $100. Therefore the price of the Vita is pretty much the same as a deluxe Wii U, even more if you are buying the 3G model. Also, the 3DS has a much stronger library of games than the Vita. Also, while the handheld screen resolution may be lower than that of the Vita. The main console graphics can render games in 720p and higher, much greater than that of the Vita's 540p. As you can see there are advantages on both sides of the spectrum.

Well the argument in this thread is mainly about the hardware.

The games are prone to subjectivity while a hardware's strenghts are not. (prove me wrong if you can :P )

It's hardly unreasonable to state that the 3DS has a larger library of quality games than the Vita; whether said library appeals to you is of course completely subjective, but the 3DS has a larger library of quality games, making it the better library. The Vita has better hardware. What is there to discuss? it clowns the 3DS hardware completely, and it is very thoughtfully designed. But how does that matter if the 3DS has games? We're going in circles here.

Fair points.

But if you look at it, a portable system like the Vita would be much better off if those issues would be sorted out.

To redesign the 3DS and WiiU, however, would be quite the task.

Does the 3DS have a proper music player? I got the XL the day it came out and never noticed :P. It still wins out for me as it has a fantastic selection of games and the only thing that interests me on Vita is P4G (never played a persona game before but it looks really interesting). I may get a Vita when the price goes down but I think thats a while off.

lol vitas tech is not better then wiius  ,     vita is slightly less powerful then the older hd twins as it is ,  ,

the wii u is only 4 months old and already has  quite a line up the only reason it is not selling is that line up like psvita is available elsewhere minus the 6 exclusives   -lego city ,  nintendoland sing party nsmbu zombi u and monster hunter -     wait 7   -that rayman party game,

and then again 3rd party games dont move platforms for nintendo , nintendos games do the most of the work so once more come it will be clear wiiu is the better  system in terms of power ,and games,

the 3ds already is better then vita in terms of games

pretty much. I don't hate the story in Awakening, but it isn't exactly anything special or noteworthy either, and it does have issues.

Really? I see a 1 point difference on Metacritic, which really doesn't tell me that every site has it higher. More importantly, Persona 4 is a remake... if we were to play the remake card, I could bring in Ocarina of Time 3D. You know, a remake of the greatest game ever made? Also, lol at Fire Emblem having a good story, the story is the worst part of the game.

Yeah, I think the app is called 3DS Sound. it even lets you retune and mix and match stuff. It's surprisingly full featured actually. As for the account, well, Drops isn't Level 10 yet, so I'm using this for now. Also, I'm not sure if I'll give it up completely now lol.

from a hardware standpoint the vita has really impressed me. i didnt think i would say this about a sony platform but its actually the more innovative of the two. the back touch surface is a great idea (they should stick it on their tablets). its also the better developed and better thought out system. its not perfect (lack of a clamshell design. no SD card support and the inability to adjust the screen powersave feature for example) but overall its really well thought out and it feels sturdy (something the PSp really lacked). if i was sony i would maybe look into making a 7" and 4" version. in contrast there are parts of the 3DS design where i honestly have no idea what nintendo were thinking. they knew they were getting a monster hunter or 2 on the system so why did they leave out the second stick?. the placement of the stylus is poor and having 2 screens with different aspect ratios looks odd. the build quality is also truly shocking by nintendos usually high standard. compared to the DS lite (a fantastic bit of kit) the 3DS feels flimsy. the bottom screen can cause marks to appear on the top screen and it creeks a lot. I do love that nintendo use off the shelf SD cards though for storage and that they include one with every system. but in many ways it feels like more of a prototype than the DSfat. as media devices both of them are complete crap. the vita a bit less so but both have rubbish browsers and dont even have access to basic stuff like netflix (over here in ireland anyway). neither is a very good music player and vitas youtube app is pretty dire. android and IOS devices have them both completly outclassed. however, as mentioned, when it comes to games the 3DS is without peer in the mobile space. the vita has some great games (gravity rush, everybodys golf, wipeout and so on) but outside of soul sacrefice and tearaway (which are looking great also) its pretty sparse on the vita games front with the PS4 looming i suspect sony wont give the vita much time at E3.

The original 3DS is a shockingly poorly designed piece of kit. The XL, by contrast, feels wonderful. Which 3DS model do you have?

Subjectivity is great and all, but from any objective measure, it is impossible to deny that the 3DS has a larger library of quality titles. Now whether or not those appeal to you is an entirely different question altogether, but the 3DS has a larger library of quality games than the Vita (hence, its library is 'better').

Just commenting to say that was a well thought out and written post, not everyday you see a post like that in SW :P.

I'd also like to add that over in America we do have Netflix on both the 3DS and Vita, and it's really excellent on Vita, became a routine of mine to watch a show or two on it in bed before going to sleep.  Hopefully you guys on the Emerald Island will get it soon.

the original. im not inclined to upgrade to the XL as it doesn't offer enough new over the original.
