I've seen this in countless threads. I'm sure you have too. Problem is, anyone can slap the ol' "I have both systems" on their post and make it seem like their opinion is true. Do you think we can even trust it anymore?
This topic is locked from further discussion.
Trusting anything that anyone writes on the internet is always a bad idea, so.... I guess so. I don't see why someone would lie about having multiple systems. Seems like a silly thing to do.
Never could be trusted.
It's possible to have one two systems from different companies but be a fanboy only one of those companies.
Why wouldn't it be? Owning and experiencing both systems, and thereforeforming an opinion based on said experience, is surely better than just assume one is better and sticking to it.
How can anyone's opinion be true? Then it would be fact and no longer an opinion. I think an owner of multiple systems can have a well experienced/informed opinion. But it doesn't make it the absolute truth.I've seen this in countless threads. I'm sure you have too. Not really. Mind you, I don't think it was ever legit.
Fanboys will be fanboys, not matter how many systems they own.
I can't really see any reason why it wouldn't be legit. I have all 3 consoles since they were released. I still tend to favor the 360, for multiplatform games, because of XBL and achievements, but the ps3 has certainly been gaining steam in the exclusive department.
Not at all, for two big reasons... 1. Anyone can say anyone on the Internet. I am a cloned human son of both Bush and John Mccain with a goal to become a super far right elitist Republican and destroy the Democracy Party and the existence of the lower middle class (and below); Without any proof all you have is my word. ;) Not to mention I could give you pictures of anyone and just say it's me. 2. Just because you own your rival's system doesn't make unbiased. People are biased because they're biased, not because they physically own all systems. Being biased is a mental thing.Nerkcon
Definition of biased please.
Doesn't mean anything if you have 2 systems... You're still going to have a favourite. hrt_rulz01^this
There are those gamers that have more than 'both' systems. A minority that can truly express positive and negative opinions about each and every system they own, while not being a fanboy.
For the record, I have 2 'living-room' system setups. Connected to my HDTV, I have a PS3, Xbox 360 and an original Xbox. In the other room, connected to my old SDTV, I have an NES, a GameCube on top of it, a PS2 (launch), a PSTwo (slim - sitting on top of the 'phat'), Sega Dreamcast, and Sega Genesis. That said, you usually won't find me posting anything about my 'favorite' system, since I find fun in each system I have.
It really comes down to the opinion they are trying to express, while stating they have 'both'. This topic and System Wars is kinda the reason I came up with the definition I put in my sig. Someone can be a fanboy - in love with a single system, or a fanboy - owning '2 out of 3' and hating the 3rd.
From what I seen..no. There's nothing wrong with having a preference, but people, mostly trolls, tend to use it as a cop out so they won't get flamed for bashing a console.

I've never trusted it. Some of the biggest fanboys in the history of this forum have claimed to own multiple systems. But if they are spewing out fanboy BS, then they are ignorant fanboys and not real gamers. I don't care
All consoles have some deserved criticism. But when people claiming to own all console go around saying a certiain console has zero games, or that there is nothing good about it, or that it is "collecting dust" then they aren't being honest.
Nope, never valid .. I know from experience :P . Last time I had a PS2, Xbox and a PC but I played PC almost 99.9% of the time during that period, so yeah, anyone can easily prefer (hugely) one system over the other even if they have the both
edit : In fact I would say I became more of a PC fanboy after owning the consoles
It was never legit. I don't see the relevance of the statement being true or not.
EXAMPLE TIME!
the wii sucks. it's the worst console ever. it's stupid. only idiots buy wiis cause its only for simpleminded, lazy gamers. all you get are these kiddy games where you wave around a retarded gimmick controller with grafix that looks like ps2. nintendo is making a mockery of hardcore gamers. the wii is a piece of ****-
and before you call me a fanboy i own a wii
when people give out obvious flat out bias opinions it doesnt matter what systems people claim to have, people need to try talk more realisticly about things to be taken seriously.

Again definition of bias oh wait you'll post before you read I dislike that.
If the implication is that some folks are lying about that, my suggestion to you would be to have thread of people showing pictures of them next to all the current generation systems they own. That would be my best guess to solve that issue, if that is indeed the issue.
Otherwise, if the question does it automatically make a person any less of a fanboy/girl, from personal experience, I would have to say "no." Last generation, I was foolishly followed the fanboy mentality by being a sheep, and despite this, at one point, I owned both the PS2 and Xbox, along with the 'Cube. Therefore, take it from me where I say you can just easily be a fanboy/girl, regardless of what you do or not do own.
Haha that Penny Arcade comic made me want to change my username. I'm not really a fanboy, if I like a game I will say I like the game. If i hate it, i'll say i hate it.
But yea, it was never legit.
I always ask for photographic evidence if they seem like they're up to something. I've proven countless times my honesty with proof, so I just expect the same from others.

Are you implying that you CAN trust someone on the internet?
I have countless pictures of my setup, I have plenty of people around GameSpot that I have played with, and my PSN ID and GamerTag is always in my GameSpot profile. Not only that, I could not care less what you believe about me.I've seen this in countless threads.
