Is Team Fortress 2 still the best online shooter?

Most gaming forums have generally, agreed Team Fortress 2 is the king of online shooters on any platform. It has been a while now, 2007 was many years ago and a few system wars members may have have existed back then.

In this year of our lord, 2014, has the general consensus remained unchanged? If so, for how long? Will Titanfall live up to the hype? Will Destiny become... destiny?

Modern Warfare 3 is the best by far.

TF2 is still the best, and I think it will be the best for a while.

I usually never go near online shooters, but I still play TF2. Says it all. It's awesome!

Counter Strike GO replaced it for me.

There was a time I liked TF2, but over time it just got worse.

Items like the Dead Ringer and Huntsman threw out player skill for gimmicks, and lots of the maps that got added into the game over time weren't very good (often horribly lopsided in favor of defenders or attackers).

I also never really enjoyed critting as it could be game-changing at times, but I could deal with that when it was the only "BS" in the game.

Its the most creative, have a ridiculous ammount of modes, contents and maps.

Actually follows the older, less dumbed down class systems of old (not just pathetic gun changes.)

Its art style is timeless and fantastic, and one of the few multiplayer games where your storyless avatars are really funny and interesting.

Its gunplay ironically despite the sort of "rpg" style to it is better than 99% of other game.

Its defintly one of mine.

pointless thread though, consolites didn't experience its glory so they will "DERP" all over the place of how some apthetic console game is better... probably cod... or laughably killzone 2... jesus christ.... kz2.... "great shooter" ... boring grey campaign, online with hit detection delay of up to 2 seconds.

It's one of the best.

I like it a lot, but I wish they hadn't added so much pointless stuff to it. It was at its best when it was the simplest.

Personally, I like Tribes: Ascend more.

It was good, but "the best"? How do you even decide that. Especially how different some of the best shooters can be from one another.

Because it's more fun than it's competitors.

But Battlefield is better.

Red Orchestra 2: RIsing Storm is a wonderful team game. Outside of Team Fortress 2, this is arguebly the best.

Sadly, due to it's hardcore nature, dwindling player count and lack of paid of IGN publicity, it has largely been ignored. This my friends, is modern gaming. Very sad indeed.

Back when it was vanilla. The Orange Box version on consoles was the best imo. All the updates and crap ruined it.

I think a lot of people try RO2/RS after coming from BF3/4 and just can't hack it. Its a tough game to learn but its such a shame that more people don't stick with it because its a much richer more satisfying experience than other pseudo-realistic multiplayer shooters right now.

I still play TF2 till this day but it appears to have lost of charm a little and the amount of kids only playing for hats and trading really annoys me. Also mentioning the class stacking...

Yes TC. Team Fortress 2 is the undisputed king of online shooters. Way better than that casual mainstream crap like COD we see so much of these days.

True, the panhandlers only care about hats it seems, otherwise they wouldn't call a hat simulator the best MP shooter ever. And you're a console fanboy, so you can't actually know that but I actually play on a god tier home system with a 2k high end PC, so I know what TF2 is and what it isn't.

Was pretty good when it launched, then they added too much crazy stuff to it. I don't think it was ever the best shooter.

I wouldn't say the best, but it is certainly one of the best. One of the only FPS games where I can relax, play, and do well without elitist punks breathing down my neck.......Looking at you CS:GO.

Imo, it's been going downhill for a while. It needs better attempts at balance. I don't think Valve will bother too much with it. MVM was awful.
