I could not imagine TLOU2, Uncharted 4 or Horizon: Zero Dawn with Switch level graphics. I'd be pissed, quite frankly, if the entire generation of PS4 games had to look like Switch games. Even long open world games like Witcher 3 and Red Dead Redemption 2 would be unbearable if it was a blurry and pixelated mess for over 60 hours.
I'm sure many Switch would love a boost in resolution and frame rate. But they accept the current technological ceiling and price point combination right now. Switch could be more powerful, but then price goes up, and battery life goes down. At least the portability and "pick up and play right away" aspect is a huge part of Switch's draw and success.
Much like the Oculus Quest. I wish a lot of things. I wish the FOV was wider, the battery life longer, the resolution much better, needs more RAM, needs more ergonomic fixes. But for the price point and technical limitations, it's about as good as it gets for now. Only times I really pipe up is when I think the company is screwing the consumers when I know they can do better and offer better stuff. But things like Quest and Switch seem to be a bundle of fairly reasonable compromises.
But to answer the question again. No, I do think gamers care about resolution and frame rate (moreso resolution/graphical power). But even if they are missing those things, as long as they get "cool things" in other places, they don't mind settling and overlooking the deficits for a while.
