Of the examples, Killzone and Resistance were mediocre both as games and in sales.

Sony keeps franchises going that are profitable and in demand. God of War on it's 4th console, for example. Gran Turismo on every PS console. There are plenty of ongoing franchises.

Nintendo is the undisputed king of first party content. It says something about their development and remaining fresh.

Other games aren't movies, they don't need to have a narrative beginning and end, the core importance is generally the gameplay and improving upon it than some predestined endline.

@mysticaldonut: I still prefer Resistance 1. It was just an absolute blast to play and the awesome weapons were great, 2 was also a lot of fun although a little rougher around the edges, and 3 I honestly think is the least fun. Not a bad game, but I think it's to narrative driven for the Resistance franchise.

Resistance 1 is about to come back online.

The difference between Nintendo and Sony in the game industry parallels the difference between Disney and Sony Pictures in the movie industry. In both cases, Disney and Nintendo milk the same more successful IPs while Sony takes chances on new IPs. The difference is that Sony has been way more successful doing this with games than with movies.

Sony is still doing its own form of milking in the game industry. Rather than milking the same IPs, it's milking the same genre (third-person cinematic action games) with different IPs.

Gran Turismo has been a dead franchise for nearly 20 years...

Based on what metric?

**** no. Way too many of their mid ass franchises got sequels. They made 5 uncharted games for starters.
