Is Sony overconfident or hiding a disaster?

We have had an up and running xsx for almost a month now, it is reliable, quite and impressed on all fronts. That's a sign of confidence from MS. Only issue it doesn't have any new games to get excited for!

Less than a month now from release, we haven't had a proper ps5 preview. Sony has been drip feeding us information which seems to be at random intervals. At this stage we still haven't seen how games actually performs outside Twitter and blog posts

I can't find any logical explanation but to think there is an an going issue with PS5 that Sony is still trying to fix, possibly software related.

Is this Sony building up hype or stalling until they sort out a disaster in the making?

They haven't even send DF a test unit and that's strange

I mentioned this in another thread. I think they're building hype without having to trust that people won't break their NDAs and leak info. I don't expect there to be anything wrong, but it's still wierd.

Microsoft is disrupting the market and changing the narrative. A market that Sony has been winning in for years.

Cross play, free upgrades and game pass is foreign to them and they are unwilling to change their ways because they were so successful in the past.

They are walking on eggshells and keeping a low profile. If MS screws up on something they will come out full force.

Manufacturing issues, and overheating concerns have Sony worried about how the final product will turn out, so they're not gonna give early previews of this unstable volcano.

I don’t think Sony was expecting Microsoft put there weight behind Xbox and produce a console as amazing as Xbox Series X.

Sony and their weak ass console running scared. They can't win going head to head with XSX so they're lurking in the shadows trying not to bring any comparisons to light, and so more of their lies aren't exposed.

Pretty sure the last time Sony give "hands on" (PS4), they only gave journalist the then new DS4 controller for them to test it with PC games. Sony didnt even show the UI of PS4 till like a week before release? The strategy clearly works for them, nothing to be fussed over.

Keeping your hand close to your chest is a valid strategy.

Well when one of its biggest cows comes into to say they don't want to over hype it then it must be in trouble lol.

I remember when Nintendo refused to show off the Gamecube controller until it had nearly launched. Me and my friends feared it would be another abomination like the N64 had.

Sometimes companies don't put all their cards on the table until they absolutely have too.

That being said - yeah, I think they know it flat out doesn't stack up. So the less seen and said the better. Gives them time for their software to compensate as it gradually rolls in.

Sony doesn't have to do anything special in terms of marketing to show the PS5, after all, they beat the current generation by a lot. They feel comfortable seeing what Microsoft does and what the consequences are, then they will act.

Microsoft on the other hand, is obliged to show its product because it really did not do well at all in this generation, particularly with the role of DRM policies that they went through when showing the Xbox One for the first time. That is why they show that "everything is in favor of the players".

I am interested to know if Microsoft really end up doing everything they profess, after all, they are in a tailspin, not producing games of interest (at least to me) since the "kinect" came out, during the second half of the Xbox 360's life.

At the time, I had both a PS3 and an Xbox 360, now, only a PS4 and for sure (in a year or two, when there are more games) a PS5. The Xbox Series X will depend on whether they make it a new "360" or a new "One".

Sony is delaying the inevitable. Here.

Media will be swamped by PS5's inferior performance on way, way more titles for the same price.

Haptics will be harder to convey and critique than zoomed in graphics.

It's overconfident for MS to provide an incomplete version of the hardware that often crashes on quick resumes and can't even run several first-party titles in BC. They need to learn how to hide a disaster.

Remember when Sony promised no loading screens? That games would load in just 1 seconds. Yet the one game they boot up in the PlayStation UI they fast forward the entire loading screen lol.

I like the SXS design. If I could install Windows or Linux on it I would buy it day one - no question. I'd love an upgrade to my living room PC and $500 is a steal for a modern PC that powerful, in that form factor.

Without my Steam library I just don't have a reason. When is that gonna happen?

The cow damage control is like clockwork. All the usual suspects out in full DC mode. But a special mention to tormentos, he is really DC’ing hard. He’s losing his mind, as are all the cows, knowing that in three weeks all their fears are about to be realised. XSX has shook the shit out of them, well not really, cos some of them still spewing out shit daily.

I don't expect anything dramatic to happen, because Playstation has incredibly strong brand power, they're doing nothing wrong with Playstation 5. But I do think Sony are underestimating Xbox this gen, I think Xbox is starting the new gen with a solid plan and I think they have choices that appeal to a lot of different gamers and interests.

Series S and Gamepass for casuals.

Series X for enthuiest console gamers.

For the PC, Gamepass and Xbox games on Steam.

And Xcloud for ios and android.

They just got Bethesda, and EA Play for Gamepass.

So my point isn't to list all these great things Xbox is doing, but to demonstrate that Xbox is moving forward on multiple fronts at the same time, and they're kind of making Playstation look static and unchanged in their approach to console gaming.

I feel like Playstation are relying a bit too heavily on their brand power. It's fine, but it opens the door to competition.

sony is the most hyped console. yet they don't show nothing other than games and it has the most impressive looking launch games. xbox shows teraflops and old games yet xbox fans saying there doing great. 23 studios yet no AAA launch title. but yet the console only gets the praise but we all buy consoles to look how powerful it is on paper. look 12teraflops ok what game did you get to show me. um I don't have one.

2 years spent testing the cooling in the ps5 yet its over heating lol.

sony team is smarter than any one in here about how to launch a console.

xbox is to open with there advertising and opens up disappointments. look at halo and the one they said lots of gameplay when there was non.

sony next few weeks will drop info on the ps5 just like they did with the ps4.

They are neither overconfident nor hiding a disaster. Actually both Sony and MS are playing to their strengths in terms of marketing. MS has to come out and throw those numbers because they NEED TO for two reasons: They have an advantage in terms of specs/numbers and they aren't the market leader with no games to showcase the difference.

Sony is simply revealing what it considers to be their strengths and don't want to get in numbers game because they know they don't have an advantage there. They are simply showing the games to differentiate themselves from MS and once they have the games out they won't need to worry about numbers.

Both MS and Sony are following textbook marketing.

I feel bad for lemmings. You're new Halo might as well be played on a toaster. Microsoft wasted billions of dollars on a multiplat spewing company. And you still have no games. You should just switch to, a Switch lol.
