Its so good its remastered for both PS 3 then ( HD ) and PS 4 now. Finished the PS 4 v today , still gem of a game all the way.
Do you consider SOTC best PS game till date or is it God of War or any other PS game?
Well?

Personally, nah, but it's a good game.
They did a great job on the remake too, though some qualities of the original were lost in translation.
The best, probably not. One of the greatest? Certainly. It's still a masterwork for its era. I know Sony's proud of producing it.

PS 4 got a new sword if you collect golds scattered all over the region.Looks and plays great too.
I'm not sure what PS game I think is best, but I will say this - of the Team Ico/Ueda games, I think The Last Guardian was the best. Was it perfect? No. But Shadow of the Colossus is a janky frustrating game too. TLG was one of the most moving games I've played, period, in fact. In may ways a masterpiece despite its flaws.
TLG>Ico>SotC IMO
@magnum3000:
If someone considers it the best then in their mind it’s the best, why does other people’s thoughts on a game have to have an impact on your own HaH
An example..I liked days gone more than HZD...you think some nobodies opinion on a forum gonna change that HaH
Great game ... but far from the best ... i still think that The Last of Us is the greatest PS exclusive of maybe all time.
When i get a PS5 i plan to get the PS4 remake.
at the moment though i dont think so. To paraphrase Eurogamer: "SOTC is a game that leaves amazing memories but is quite a frustrating experience to actually play". I played it on the PS2 and very much agree with this sentiment. The game was, perhaps, a bridge too far for the old system when it released. They probably should have made it a PS3 launch title (god knows the PS3 could have used all the help it could get at launch).
The concept is great though. The visual style is also wonderful and the soundtrack is one of the greats. With better execution it certainly could be Sonys greatest game.
Played it for the first time when the remake came for the PS4, easily one of the best games I've played this gen.
It was ok. Got boring around the 6th colossi. Is there anything else to do besides beating the colossus?
No, not for me. Tried the original and the PS3 version but just could not get into the game at all, didn’t really care for it myself.
I would have preferred if the game was more like Dragon's Dogma. You progress the story by killing the colossuses, but there are also dungeons, standard sized enemies, rpg elements, etc. Still a good game, tho.

I read it as their best first party title, and I'm having a hard time thinking of a game I like more tbh. Dad of War n God of War 2/3 are the only things that come to mind, Going Commando, Jak and Daxter. Not really a clear cut winner.

Challenging myself to think of better 1st party titles.
Ended up scrolling through a Wiki list, thinking there must be something.
You know it's tough times when you start weighing on stuff like Twisted Metal lol.
Depending on how much you like racing games, there's Gran Turismo... and that's all I've got.
1st party, yeah SotC might be the one.
So easy to forget that Playstation brand was mostly built on third party exclusives.

mmhmm same mentality makes me ignore Demon's Souls n Bloodborne, like yeah they are first party as far as publishing, but a third party ass dev had to make those games. Like Nintendo getting credit for a Platinum joint.
SotC is a great game, but it's also an intensely unique game that lacks broad appeal. It's a great piece of art, and it succeeded at doing something way different from anything before, but a "greatest" game for me would have to have either a hauntingly memorable story (i.e. TLoU) or extremely addictive gameplay like Bloodborne. Horizon: Zero Dawn is probably the best of both worlds, as the story was great and the gameplay has never gotten old for me. I beat the game on my own, then replayed it from the beginning again so my kids could join in, and as soon as we finished the first thing they wanted to do was a New Game + on Ultra Hard. Hunting robot animals/dinosaurs just never stops being fun.

So...? Why would that be a problem, rather than an asset? Broad appeal is often (not always) simplistic, meaningless slop. More intensely unique gems, please!
Shadow of the Colossus is one the top 5 Sony exclusives ever released. Best ever? Definitely not. But top 5 is an insane accomplishment.

I don't disagree. I applaud unique and interesting games over Call of Duty 17 and Battlefield 12. But a really good game can be -both- and if we're talking about a "best game" list then I have to acknowledge the tedious aspects of SotC that turn a lot of people off.
@locopatho: That's a tall order. I'd have to really think about it, honestly. All three of the primary console makers have made some truly incredible games over the last 20-30 years. Just off the top of my head (in absolutely no order):
Journey
God of War
The Last of Us
Uncharted 2
Shadow of the Colossus
^^Again, this is a knee-jerk response. I would have to think about it.
In a world where we had PlayStation exclusives series in Wipeout 2097, Tekken 3, Gran Turismo 2, Resident Evil, Twisted Metal, Final Fantasy 7/8/9, etc. I would have to say no. I don't think SOTC is even the best playstation game on the PS2, I never felt the attachment to it that others had, but I respect it on PS2 from a technical standpoint.
Nope. It's not even among my top 20 favourite PS exclusives:
Resident Evil 1-3
Wipeout 2097
Tekken 2-5
Alundra
Final Fantasy 7-10
Metal Gear Solid 1-3
Silent Hill 1 & 2
Gran Turismo 3
Shadow of Memories
However, I do think SOTC is better than the PS3 & PS4 exclusives, except for maybe Bloodborne.
@Jag85: That's another thing to consider. Are we talking all games exclusive to PlayStation consoles, or games specifically made by Sony-owned studios?
