Its so cheap and i picked up a PS4 on God of War 4 release. Also recently the Ps4 hits discounts, got Last of us remastered, uncharted 4 and nioh brand new for about 70 bucks. So its def a great time to buy one now.

It was must own like two years ago. I couldn't imagine owning one of the other consoles as a prime gaming system.

I suppose if you had asked me this question when I was, say, 12 years younger, when I was much more serious about my gaming than I am now, I would have definitely seriously considered it just for Horizon: Zero Dawn alone. Looking at that game gave me almost the same feeling I once had after I played Soulcalibur II on a friend's PS2. That's about the best compliment I can give to a console exclusive game.

But that was then, and this is now. I never did buy a PS2 for SCII when I was really serious about my gaming. I'm certainly not going to buy a PS4 just for HZD now.

Nope. They more or less abandoned the JRPG/Strategy market compared to Ps1 days. I own one, but It is my 3rd ranked behind Switch and PC. That puts Ps4 in the nice to have, not must have for me. The main reason is that most of the PS4 game I want are on other systems.

Assassin's Creed Origins/Odyssey? On PC/Xbox/Ps4

Dragon Quest Builders? On Switch and Ps4

Dragon Quest 11? On PC and Ps4

Trove? On Everything

Final Fantasy 12 Zodiac Age? On PC and Ps4

Disgaea5? Switch and Ps4

For the types of game I enjoy playing, Ps4 really does not do that much for me. Ratchet and Clank is my favorite Ps4 game, so for me it is still an ok system.

I really miss the Ps1 days when great RPGs where out on Sony Systems every month (Breath of Fire, Chrono Cross, FF Tactics, Suikoden 1+2, Dragon Quest, Final Fantasy Origins/Anthology/7/9, Tactics Ogre, Wild Arms 1+2, Grandia, Lunar 1+2 Complete, Azure Dreams, Legend of Dragoon, and so many more!)

Ps4 really abandoned the JRPG market and since that and building games are my main types, the Switch and PC serve me far better in those areas.

@mojito1988: Yeah, only really tempted by Persona 5 at this point now that the Yakuza series is coming over to PC. Might pick up one when the PS5 comes out, and the PS4 price drops lower.

Well.....no. Not at all. About 99.9999 percent of games are multiplat (by my estimate). You can pick up an xbox or ps4 and have a ton of great games to play. "System wars" is silly. Please don't act like it's not.

Indeed it is the must-have-console of this generation! Great exclusive games, great controller, great community and of course, cross-play with PC community for the whole family can enjoy :)

Considering that I have one yet I'm looking to get rid of it since it's just collecting dust at this point, I would obviously say no.

It's only a must own console if you love JRPGs and movie-games. Since I don't love those types of games, I get way more enjoyment out of my Xbox One and Nintendo Switch. My PS4 hasn't even been touched since February.

No, it still has the worst exclusive lineup of any Playstation system.

I turn mine on every 6 months or so to play a Yakuza game, but even those aren't exclusive anymore.

I honestly don't know what people play on PS4s all year. There are huge droughts between headline titles.

I want to play 3 games on it, namely Bloodborne, God of War and Spider-man, but that doesn't warrant a purchase imo. I may wait until I can get the Pro for cheap, or perhaps PS5 if it's backwards compatible, because the base PS4 looks kinda meh.

I am swamped with so many games, that I really don't feel like I'm missing out on anything at all.

If you game on home consoles, yes.

I agree with this. Other Playstation consoles offered much better variety for all tastes. The PS4 is too heavily focused on JRPGs and movie-games.

Sony consoles have never been my favorite console of any generation, but Sony's past consoles have always had at least a few great exclusives that made them worth owning until now. The PS4 doesn't have any exclusives that I care about anymore. They had some temporary ones earlier that I cared about, but those titles eventually went multiplat. Now, there is literally no exclusive left on the PS4 that I give a damn about and given that I prefer to play multiplats on Xbox, the PS4 now has absolutely no value to me. That's the first time that any major console has ever had zero value to me.
