Video cards cost more than full high end systems used to, cheaters in games like battlefield 5 are rampant. The store front is a mess. Steam sales suck now, no more flash deals.
You can’t even play the new Ratchet and Clank game on pc, what gives?

"dead" no. But it's in trouble right now as long as these cards are pricey as most people can't afford the cards.
Here's hoping things will normalize in the long run.
Well, the circle jerk of PC gamers gloating about the console killing potato masher they built from sofa change is long gone, though PC gaming certainly isn't dead. Though any lull in gaming caused by crypto-mining killing silicon availability is something that effects everyone, and not just gamers, production of new cars even. Now recycled PCs are going up in value, and used cars. Can't find a PS5 or Xbox at MSRP.

Yet people complain about $70 games lol.
@SolidGame_basic: lol wtf
Is that?
Maybe you can play it in 8k 240fps?
I wish console fans would unite and push pc off the table for discussion here. PC isn't really a "system" anyways, it's an open platform so a plethora of systems grouped together for the purpose of "competing" on a board called 'system wars'.
Ah yes. PC gaming. "Dying" every year since 1985.
This isn't the first crypto boom to send GPU prices sky high. It passed last time, it will pass again. Everything else is old news that didn't amount to anything significant.
When you don't have generations, you're basically a single platform stretching back at least to the 386 and Windows 3.0 days. And when you've been around that long, you've basically been there, seen that, got the t-shirt.
@madrocketeer: I’ve been gaming on pc since the early 80’s playing lode runner and space quest. I have never been so disinterested. Every game on steam is basically a survival/build shit game in alpha. There aren’t any bad ass RTS’s, or engrossing rpgs. It’s all dog shit these days.
Consoles are killing it and cost A LOT less, even at scalper prices.
@sheevpalpamemes:
Sounds more like a "you" problem than a PC problem. YMMV, that's just how life works. Not here to convince you otherwise, since it's a personal problem.
So, what's the point of this thread again?
No. But GPU unavailability isn't helping. The best part of PC gaming was being able to upgrade components at your leisure, then here comes crypto and silicon shortages ready to take a bat to everything. Not that consoles are really faring a lot better. But hell, at least they're not competing with non-gaming uses for the machines against gamers.

This is because demand has outpaced supply, not because an unusually small number of X are being manufactured. You gotta understand that these companies buy time from the fabs months or years in advance. You can't just say "oh, demand increased so add a few thousand more bins to our order". You get put in the back of the line, which could be months or years out.
Covid caused a surge in demand for home electronics, PCs in particular due to work/learn from home. It's a pickle, but to assert that it's a judgement of the health of PC gaming is ridiculous.
Nah, just a combination of the cryptominers and silicon shortage and COVID and such.
Good thing awesome glory of PC gaming is so independent of hardware, it doesn't matter what prices are like for cutting edge GPU's. I could have a video card from 7 years ago and I'd be having more fun on PC than ever.

Eh, it's more of a depression. Lots of industries are experiencing this at the moment.
Remember when we couldn't find toilet paper? No one cried "Wiping your ass is dead" though :P
I do feel bad for anyone that hasn't upgraded their GPU in the last five or so years, though.
Probably. I haven't seen my PC in hours. Object permanence and all that
Can you see the parts inside your case? If not, one could argue your PC is dead and alive
Lol, if PC gaming was dead Microsoft and Sony wouldn't be bringing their games over to the platform to try and get a slice of that delicious pie.
@TheEroica: it is. People rent their games now. Blockbuster will go out of business, so will gamepass. Same thing.
I think the magic of pc gaming still exists primarily in the smaller games that sites like Gamespot, IGN etc.. play catch up too because they are too busy acting as PR for EA, Activision, Ubisoft etc...
Stuff like Mount And Blade. Stalker. Shit the mainstream media generally do not care about but carry on through the gaming community. They pop up on Steam on a regular basis, sometimes easy to see blowing up, other times seemingly out of nowhere. It's great. Reminds me of the homebrew computer software in the 80's where anyone in a bedroom with an idea and basic programming skills could make a game.
In general the types of games mentioned above do not require uber hardware. They stand up on gameplay.
When it comes to AAA stuff, most are developed with console in mind. And lets be honest, cynical in nature. Barely fucking play them now, feels more like a looping pyramid scheme than actual games.
Mine can run Unreal Tournament 2004. That's the only game it needs to run. Everything else is on PS5 for me.
More on topic... I think PC gaming is going to be hurting for a while but it's far from dead. It will now simply be more die hard PC gamers shelling out willingly and the moderate and casual PC crowds waiting.
Then you have to look at income and with people less willing to work now because unemployment benefits are making them severely lazy, they may not care about upgrading their PCs as regularly.
If this processor shortage doesn't stop soon, I'd imagine prices will continue to skyrocket. PS5 and XSeX may increase in price as well due to the shortage alone. Then America has mass inflation coming our way. I expect that the days of the $500 console may be a thing of the past and those of us lucky enough to snag one at retail might be the last to see those prices.

One of the great things about PC gaming. Even with a cheap-ass laptop .. £300+, it has decades and decades (and decades) of games to play.
And that's ignoring stuff Nintedo really, really hate.
@davillain-: I have! I actually have a gaming laptop that still does well playing games through the beginning of the ps4 generation. It's ok I guess. I use cakewalk music studio more than anything on it through steam.
I'm a console kid though. Zero interest In building/investing/researching in cutting edge pc tech though. Video game design is governed by the capabilities of homes consoles... It hurts pc gamers to say that. But it's true.
PC gaming is arguably the most popular platform.

Total War: Warhammer 3 is releasing sometime this year. That game will probably be a banger!
Chivalry 2 came out last month and that game was supposedly real good too.
The Cows are lashing out at everyone these days. “Is PC gaming dead?” “Is the Switch overrated?” “Xbox has no games.” I can come with plenty more but I think you get the picture. 😅

Correct me if I'm wrong, but can't you find a year old "top of the line" GPU? I just checked on amazon for top GPU's of 2020, all of those are still available, you don't actually need a 3080, the scarcity of it is just driving fools nuts. The beauty of PC is you can play everything, just can't always max everything out.

Share a link to these fable cards.

You'd think they'd still be having a blast with returnal.
They abandon that game less than a week later.

The RTX 2 series are cranked in price right now due to the shortages. I gave my 2080 to my bro, but I could have gotten $800-$1000 for the card on Ebay.
@mtron32: Poor Returnal. I’ll probably always think of that as being the game that did in ProtossRushX. 😂
Yes. So dead in fact that in the next 5 years Sony will put most of the big hitters and it and MS already has for years.
RIP.
