Poll Is it clear by now that Nintendo is saving their heavy hitters for Switch 2? (71 votes)

Yep 38%
Nah 62%

I just watched the Direct, and when it came time to talk about Breath of the Wild 2, there was no info at all. Instead we got a Skyword Sword HD announcement, which I'll get because I never played the original (I'm also getting Ninja Gaiden collection as well). But anyway, we're hitting the four year mark, and no talk about Breath of the Wild 2, no Bayonetta 3, no Metroid, and the show ended with Splatoon 3, which is slated to come in 2022. It seems to me that Nintendo is planning for the next system. Thoughts, SW? Agree or disagree?

Probably just trying to extend their Switch run by spreading some release late 2021/2022.

No they have your money, they charge full price for its games AND its platform, people have shown Nintendo that they can skate by with minimal effort, how about you people call out Nintendo like you do for MS.

I'd pay to see that 🤣🤣🤣

I don't think that's the obvious conclusion. Mainline Zelda games are typically 4-5 years apart, Metroid restarted production in the last couple of years, and Bayonetta could still come out this year.

So I feel it's more "quality games take time", rather than "Nintendo is holding back finished games for whatever console they'll release in a few years time".

They want Switch to last as long as it can. It'll probably last 7-9 years. No reason for them to go all out yet, specially how it's selling.

Not at all, if you're basing this off of today's direct you may not have paid attention to the tagline "first half of 2021" meaning we literally don't know what's in stock for the second half and that includes the holiday.

They said first half but announced Splatoon 3 for 2022 - now you explain that!

I didn't watch the Direct, but i'm excited to hear of a Skyward Sword HD... Gave up on the game fairly early.

I actually do hope there is an upgraded Switch inbound. Love the system, but definitely need more oomph for a hybrid system when 4K is a thing (or shit, 1080p).

Clearly the standout exception of the whole presentation. There, explained ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Again, we don't know what's in store for the second half!

I think it depends on what you mean by "Switch 2". I foresee a "Pro" (bc/fc) upgrade soon and do think they are planning to co-release some of the big stuff with it to get bigger impact. Even if it runs on Switch, the new game co-releasing rather than coming out 6 months before the next system is better business I think

Rumours are basically pointing towards a "pro" version rather than a full-on successor. I think newer games will likely take advantage of whatever feature or added horsepower this pro model would have. But like with the Ps4 Pro and One X the games will most likely be playable on all versions of the platform.

No point in new HW, not with constant ports and remasters. Sorry, Switch is worse than the 3DS in regards to software.

They're just slow like always i.e typical Nintendo droughts.

This is why I miss dedicated handhelds, because cheap and good games would come out consistently from even the AA and AAA publishers.

A kid in Kindergarten could tell that no sheep would put shit on Nintendo for such a nothing of a show that had nothing of importance to show.

But can public school graduate see that if the Switch 2 comes out it won't be BC and Nintendo will make you buy all your games again?

Actually you didn't.

Save the "sales" pitch for someone who cares about sales.

As someone who cares about sales (in you) the game has sold more than ANY of Sony's first party game on what nearly 40 million fewer Switches out there, damn that must sting a LOT 🤣🤣🤣

More likely this year will be wack because of Covid, and with Nintendo extra wack because they actually polish up their games.

I would prefer a switch 2 for Zelda n Splatoon 3 tho. As well as Metroid prime 4 and Bayonetta 3

Nintendo is stuck trying to figure out how they can ditch Nvidia without hindering functionality. Serves them right, they made a deal with the devil, what did they think would happen?

Its a problem Nintendo always does. They release in the first year some good heavy hitters of there new console and after that its all rehash / remakes / cheap fillers until there next box.

So yes.

The Switch's Tegra X1 is already ARM-based. I suppose they could switch to a Qualcomm Snapdragon or a Samsung Exynos, though I'm not sure how the Adreno and Mali GPUs compare to NVIDIA's Maxwell.

Been saying this for a year now. Why bother putting effort into something that has no competition and is on an auto pilot trajectory that prints them money? And because most sheep are a bunch of apologists, nobody calls them out enough on their complete lack of support. Instead, every single new lazy af hd port/emulator is announced, you see the usual "i haven't played the game when it was originally released because i didn't own X system so i am so glad its coming". These people do not ask for improvements of said re-releases. These people do not ask for these zero effort titles to be cheap. Nah, they just buy whatever Nintendo gives them no matter what. And this is why a "SHEEP" fits them so nicely.

Enjoy your $60 emulators until the next generation. Your next two to three years will be real spicy.

@xantufrog: because Nvidia is likely leveraging their position to extort Nintendo on price of the supplies they need to manufacture Switch units. Same thing they did to both MS with OG Xbox and Sony with PS3 and reason neither company wants to partner with them ever again.

I'm going to say no. Can't be 100% sure but the Switch is still going strong. I don't expect another significant announcement in terms of a new console release until at the earliest probably by the end of 2022. That's just a rough guess on my end though.

@SolidGame_basic: I always wanted a version of Skyward Sword that controlled with physical buttons.

Loved the game, hated the gimmicks.

"Is it clear by now that Nintendo is saving their heavy hitters for Switch 2?"

No, you are expecting way too much from Nintendo.

The reason they have nothing to show for Switch is because there's simply nothing to show.

Lol, this is Nintendo. They are sneaky, calculating people. Of course they have stuff they can show.

This direct is making me feel that Nintendo is pretty much the same mentality as Rockstar Games, where they stopped putting forth effort on output just because they're constantly rewarded on namesake alone. I bought a Switch for games like Metroid Prime and Breath of the Wild 2 alone (I don't like Splatoon), and there's zilch to be said about either. And why should they bring you those games? They can bank off ports alone.

So no effort went into RDR2 then.

I didn't say that, I said no effort is going into output of new products because they're soaking up money from the old ones. They, like Nintendo have no excuse to not have a steady stream of content with the money they make.
