Its my favorite gears, with 1 being at a close second. It was a gloomy dark game, and i loved it. My think the act Gathering Storm was the single greatest act in the Gears series, it was so atmospheric and tense. What about you?
I got so bored with the first one never got around to the second. Geow just dont hold my interest for some reason. i did play about 10 minutes of the second and thought the graphics were good.
It's the worst out of the 3 by far. GEOW 3 >>> GEOW >>>>>>>>>> GEOW 2. The writing and characters in that game was awful surpassing the poor writing of the first. The set pieces were too Uncharted inspired and felt awkward. GEOW 3 has the best handle on the GEOW's writing (though still meh) and the set pieces this time were actually good. GEOW was good for the time it came out. GEOW 2 was a poor sequel.

I agree with this, Gears of War 2 didn't change as much as it should have from the first. It added Horde mode and some new gear and a couple new abilities, but it showed its age and didn't improve on the first graphically, nor did the multiplayer even bother trying.
So yeah, Gears of War 3>Gears of War>>>>>>>>Gears of War 2.
Its still an ok game, but I think it was riding the coattails of its predecessor too much, though luckily 3 was quite good.
This also gears 1 has more real gameplay, and gears 2 had lots of on rails sequence, it was terrible.
Gears 2 had some cool set pieces, but it was trying too hard and the story was just so horribly written and presented. 3's wasn't exactly on the level of GTA IV or Uncharted or anything, and 1's story was barely there by comparison, but 2 missed the point in a lot of ways and suffered for it.

Well aside from the freaking 4 PLAYER CO-OP, the series was never all that atmospheric (at least compared to titles like Bioshock and Half-Life that put more focus on atmosphere), it still retains the unique architecture and environments and expands on the gameplay, enemies and AI while actually doing a solid attempt at story (at least compared to the first two games).

I haven't played Uncharted 1 for a few years but from what I can remember, while it didn't have the full on action set pieces on Uncharted 2 onward, It did have a few set piece type moments GEOW 2 was obviously taking some inspiring from Uncharted which led to some lost identity especially with the characterization and with the way some of the events were made.
i didnt thought it was so bad. skorge wasntasmemorable as raam and the ending was kinda bad. other that that i thought it was fine. though i did missed that it didnt have a dark setting likethe first had
Hm, curiously, that's the one i didn't play. I did play the first one(and never finished because Game on Windows live deleted my save files when i was just one mission away from the ending), and the third one. I liked the third one more, but i didn't really loved either. I enjoyed the variety of weapons and the situations in 3 more.
Gears 1 campaign is much better than Gears 2 campaign,maybe even better than Gears 3.As for the MP,i never played Gears 1 MP,and while Gears 2 MP is not very good,Gears 3MP is not much of an improvement.

Haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah. Gears 2 is an outright hilarious game in terms of its singleplayer component. The writing is so bad it's utterly astounding and close to glorious, and the way the pacing drags to GeoW 1's tight pacing is astounding. The game doesn't know what it wants to be. This is the game where you cut out of a giant worm with a chainsaw gun, tries to be grimdark, tries to be 'emotional' like a teenager throwing pulp comic drama as high literature around, then tries to add plot and reason to the locust and take the first confident steps forward to ruining the universe. It was poor enough to put me off buying the third Gears (and I'd still like to buy it) and end the saga. Ah well it wasn't atrocious, and the multiplayer was pretty damn good; the bot support should be applauded.
Gears 1 had something that Gears 2 never had, but the 3rd one quickly picked up. I don't know what it was, but the atmosphere in 2 didn't feel the same in 1 or 3.
