Upon release, many shills such as Adam Sessler proclaimed this as the second coming. Yet, months after it's release seemingly nobody cared, apparently it doesn't exist anymore.

Was the video game "Bioshock Infinite", a, of the moment reactionary blip rather than a shockwave?

People certainly don't talk about it as much as other games from that gen. It's an awesome game too.

On some level I think that's the nature of single player games in general, they can be great as they want, but eventually people stop talking about them because it is what it is. Plus when they are multiplat no fanboy bullshit to carry the game.

However in this case, we can at least agree with some statements like

-There is definitely a vocal crowd that likes to argue the game's plot stuff is total grade A bullshit (for the record I like the game and aspects of the narrative, but it's bullshit, let's be clear here)
-Said vocal crowd also involves people who shit on the gameplay, and rightfully so (I don't think it's shit, but it has some glaring misfires)
-It was completely outclassed in terms of big triple A game of that year by The Last of Us.

Throw in things like it doesn't have the wow factor that many feel the original Bioshock has, and there is also a sentiment among some people it's not even the best Bioshock game, much less up to snuff with glorious System Shock 2 (**** no on that one). So forgotten is to be expected, but the other reactions are what they are and they are mostly justified.

Personally I had fun, it looked pretty, and I was invested enough to want to see through the game twice to see how they set everything up. Was it anywhere near media hype? hahahahaha no, but if games had to live up to media hype, I wouldn't like a lot of games, because that's a shallow way to look at things.

This is the only Bioshock I've been able to finish, I found the first 2 so boring and I've tried to finish the first game a few times but can't take it. But what's to talk about exactly?

It was a huge disappointment and easily the worst Bioshock game gameplay-wise but still its combat and gameplay are miles better than The Witcher 3.

Overrated series. First Bioshock was decent, others two, not so much. Infinite had terrible shooting mechanics.

I ended up playing it long after the hype died down. I enjoyed it enough to give it a second playthrough on 1998 mode. The setting is lovely and reinforced by a great presentation and intriguing plot. But beyond that, it wasn't a very distinctive shooter. It hides behind several gimmicky features because the core gameplay fails to stand on its own. Not to say it's a bad thing to do that, but the game really lacked that oomph.

At the very least, it certainly wasn't worth the closing of Irrational.

Never finished it, Columbia wasn't compelling enough for me to come back and play it through to the ending. I love the Bioshock series, and Bioshock one is possibly my favorite game out of the ones I have played, but I found myself to be disappointed in the new setting.

I got the game on day one and played it non stop until I finished it. I loved it but you're right it hasn't stayed with me the same way other games have.

I do remember beating 1999 mode. Hard but worth it.

There was certainly something special about the game when it was released but the first Bioshock is the true classic that gamers still talk about today.

The game's pretty fun, but I couldn't bring myself to finish it. The gameplay is certainly improved over the original BioShock (though still weak by other games' standards). I just didn't get caught up in the world like I did Rapture. It all fell flat for me.

It's weird the original BioShock is such a flawed game in a lot of ways, but it's still one of my favorite games from last gen.

Bioshock Infinite isn't forgotten but like most games that come out these days it just the "flavor of the month type" thing. I mean at this point in gaming and society in general it is a what have you done for me lately thing. So yeah making on good game with a interesting story and decent gameplay will hold people's attention for about a month or two if your lucky. Personally I thought Bioshock Infinite's story was pretty good I understand the ending was a bit of a stretch but to be honest this the case with most stories that involve the multiverse ideas of sci-fi.

It was even more repetitive than your average Call of Duty. If you want to get the feel of Bioshock Infinite, better pick up plastic guns and go fire at the statues outside your school. The story was good. The rest of the stuff ; downright awful.

The first one was better in most ways except for the feel of the shooting. Story was better executed, plasmids made more sense than vigors, pacing was better, it didn't resort to enemy spam as often, better ending, etc.

Still loved Infinite overall tho.

I didn't think it was all that great, fun for sure but not as great as all the hype leading up to it. I'd certainly not mind if it got one of these next gen ports, considering they decided to bundle it with the two other Bioshock games.

Back in 2010, they showed more than just a typical teaser, they showed something seemingly more complete, and yet it still took another three years before release. I think the waiting frustrated some, raised expectations. It was still a good game, but maybe not all that some might have expected. People's previous experiences with Bioshock games might have also played into that.

The first Bioshock was my favorite, for its time anyways. The second game gave me lots of doubts leading up to it, and yet I still loved it. Bioshock Infinite was still every bit as worthy of the name, but it didn't wow me like the first game did back in its time.

I really liked it, i think it is one of the best FPS from last gen and arguably the best game that year...i've been thinking into getting back again, but i'm not that much into shooters, the reason of why i think is pretty much forgotten as of now is because games like TLO that just had a bigger impact.
