(Ok im disregarding the new All 4 One game thas comming out right now.)

I loved A Crack in Time and Tools of Destuction alot but the PS2 and PS3 have alot of differences.

PS3:
Much easier
More immaturish humor
At least in ACiT aLOT of battlefield like sections where you are in one area for a while fighting waves of enemies
More cartoony look
No racing
More orchastrated music

PS2:
Harder
Not as immature humor
More linear design
A darker feel with the colors and stuff
More techno-ey music

I did like the PS2 ones more for specific reasons... such as
Well I liked being challenged in R&C. I beat R&C 2 and 3 on normal and challenge mode without buying any amour.
I loved the long rail grinding sections in R&C 1 and 2, mostly 1 though.
They really need more of those. ACiT just had short ones here and there, except for the azimuth chase which I did really enjoy,
TOD had some good ones but they werent at all challenging.
My favorite grindrail parts on R&C was on 2 when you were dodging the trains, and at one of the last planets of R&C1, the planet with the 2nd hoverboard race, the grindrail part was AWESOME! Remember how you had to hit those switches to activate the gates and all? Loved that.
And the PS2 R&Cs had a much more linear design than ACiT. TOD had a very good mix of linear parts and open parts. And as I remember, the platforming was much harder in PS2. Im thinking of tthe ice part on Oltanis and ice part on the ice planet in R&C3.
The humor to me I like in both, I do prefer the PS2 humor more though.
And I would really like more dark/murky planets that kinda feel "scary" for lack of a better word. Such as Oroxon on R&C 1, or Snevelik (the one with the red sky) on r&c 2. Im sure there is more but I cant think of them right now. I do love the feel of those planets. And the difficulty.
The racing. I hated the racing as a kid, but now when I play them I love it. But I really wouldnt care if they didnt add it to the next regular R&C.
And the MUSIC. The MUSIC may seem not important to anyone else but it REALLY stood out to me! I loved the music in the first 3. Loved it loved it loved it. ToD had some good tracks, and well so did ACiT but It seemed the more orchastrated feel in ACiT didnt really stand out nearly as much, while I did like the songs the old R&cs really had something unique with their music. I really hope to God they bring back David Baregaurd or however you spell his name. I can see wh they wanted I different feel to ACiT but I hope they go back to the techno-ey music I loved so much. Like from R&C 2 and 3.

These are my ideas to make my dream R&C game:
Make it challenging.
Have some cool, creative rail grinding parts.
Make it longer than any other R&Cs although it doesnt have to be to long...
Have the level design like TOD with some battlefield-type areas with a good amount of linear areas like PS2 R&Cs.
Have more planets than any R&C game, doesnt have to be too much but maybe just 1 more planet more than the ratchet and clank game with the most planets.
Have a area like the Starship Phoenix from R&C3
Music more like R&C 2 and 3
A darker feel like the older ones although it wasnt that dark, but it was darker feeling than the PS3 ones.
Fly to your own planets.
A lot of secret things, like maybe secret weapons that is in a hidden area guarded by a secret boss or something.
I like side moons in ACiT but if they could somehow add more to them, or maybe side things different than the moons.
More variety of enemies
I liked the stealthy parts in R&C 1 with the thing that turned you into a robot.
Oh and also, the enemies seemed more violent in the older ones. Like if you were close to some of the robots they would immediatley smack you.

Other Ideas:

Maybe they could add like a thing when you fly to a planet, a globe of the planet pops up on the screen, and you can rotate it to choose where you want to land. Of course you cant land anywhere, you might have to unlock some areas first........

I cant really think of anytimes they did this but there should be a good amount of parts were they mix in platforming with killing enemies. I had many senarios of this before but Im too lazy right now to think of them...

Yess I would love an online like R&C 3 or 4, of course, alot more upgraded and organized. I guess its not manditory but it would give the game a much greater lasting appeal IMO.

When you are playing through challenge mode they should have like new/secret areas to unlock and just more things exclusive
to challenge mode so you can have a more different experience playing through the second time.

Yup thats all I got to say.
What do you think of my ideas, and my topic in general?
(Sorry for the multiple grammar and spelling mistakes I may have. When I write something this long, I dont try to have perfect english lol)

P.S. Im sorry but I posted this on the Ratchet and Clank Boards but its always empty pretty much and I can NEVER get a good lengthy discussion about R&C going anywhere, but im just starting to look at these boards so maybe I can get a good discusion going here.

I think this qualifies as general gaming.

And the old ps2 ratchet and clanks made me try the new ones are pretty easy.

Badum bump.

God damn I feel you. I was in love with that franchise until about 2008. There was never a game I wanted more than a Ratchet and Clank game. Then came Uncharted 2. That and ACiT was NOT the Ratchet I love.

I agree with you in some areas, I liked the old style of the game better (Tools is good, Crack is poor imo). I wish the story was told the same way it was for the first 3 games, lighter, yet serious. There are brilliant moments in the first 3 games in terms of humor, I didn't see it in either of the PS3 games. I think the music got better, but I've been throught the PS2 games atleast 10 times each, so I could play the game in my head.

What would I change though? LESS CLANK!!! I don't know why Insomniac insists on justifying him as a part of the title. I never found it fun to play as him as a character, I liked the time puzzles in Crack, but they weren't more entertaining than the Ratchet moments. I'd double the number of weapons in the game, including practically every weapon from the previous games as well as a full new arsenal. Bring back an impossible challenge which I'll pull an all nighter to complete only to die at the hands of Chain Blade in the last round (that was his name right?). Hell more arenas in general. Going Commando was awesome for the number of different minigame esque things you could do. The racing was awesome as were the arenas. A new upgrade and name for every gun that reaches level 10 would be nice. The wrench as an upgradable weapon (via a level bar) would be handy.

Its a PS3 game now, but I sure wish Insomniac wouldn't treat it like one. The racing in Going Commando was fun. It was just something to do on the side. It isn't something that was perfected, but it was fun and functional. It was charming. Insomniac sacrificed a lot of their charm in the PS3 Ratchets to make something that would be more.... believable. I personally want the weapons to be crazy and I want them to work together. Could I please make the tornado catch fire with the incinerator? Can I make the nano swarmers acidic by tossing a plasma beast at them?

There's a lot I would change if I was heading the project. Overall, I'd like to see the series make a return to when it was best. I miss the impossible challenge, I miss desperately tossing out turrets to protect me when my shield is out of juice (because there was a challenge). I miss the clever humor, even in the names (4 play, Clock Blockers, they were right there!). I miss Ratchet getting pissy when his planet was going to get destroyed... in two games. I miss how everything in the game worked together. Nothing was added pointlessly, it was all effortless.

I don't know, I loved the games. I didn't plan on going on that rant, I just miss getting a Ratchet game with money I made around my Birthday and playing through it about 10 times a month. I couldn't do that with Tools or Crack. I didn't have the time, but they weren't infinitely replayable either.

Oh sorry :/ didnt know for sure where to post it. And yeah the PS3 ratchets never had those planets that the PS2 ones had. If I got stuck on a part on the PS3 ones, well I wouldnt be stuck on if for long. But now on the older ones when I think of hard these five planets pop up instantly into my head... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yJpnWCSA0XI&feature=player_detailpage#t=173s http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CMIr-gfXB8I&feature=player_detailpage#t=407s http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MSGaIYQ7XPU&feature=related http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CUaOJXwSD0M http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O-5w0wXZcZ8 But I dont really have any for the PS3 ratchets lol

I think no ratchet and clank game made by insomniac is poor and I loved aCiT but that one had the least reply value in the entire series IMO. Im not sure why though.

But you thought the music got better? I mean Im not sayin it god bad at all, TOD's music was more like the older ones but still more orchastrated. But they used an entire different composer for aCiT. Not saying the music was bad but I do think that it had the worst in the series although I did still like the music.

The music in the cutscenes were good and the themes that played multiple times in the game were good but the regular planet themes were pretty bad compared to the other ones for the most part.

I mean... Just compare aCiT's first planet...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7mCY6nRrQcM

To Going Commando's and Up your arsenal's first planet.....

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7q9tHs4bhf8

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qFp_B63A4y0

TOD also had a pretty epic first planet theme also.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cXhJFOugFAo

Yeah that pretty much proves my point on the music lol

I just want my multiplayer(competitive) back:cry:

Also, LOL, you act like R&C ps2 was hard

3 and 4(deadlocked) were just as easy any of the PS3 ones

Deadlocked with coop was insanely easy at any difficulty (though insanely fun, and still one of my favorite coop games :P )

I am just wondering why they had online multiplayer in Up Your Arsenal but not the PS3 titles.

My biggest issue is that there are waaay too many Ratchet & Clanks. Jesus Christ, can they milk a franchise that much? The series isn't even revered as much as the Mario games, so don't bother bringing them up.

I have Quest for Booty (PAL release) and will be getting All 4 One, but sheesh.

its very hard to read the OP because of the font (too small and too similar to the background) , also its very long that makes it even harder with these fonts

I want to eventually try Tools once I'm done with my suddenly growing backlog :/.

I never played a Ratchet and Clank game except Size Matters for the PSP which was meh. More because of the stupid controls on the PSP.

I agree that the newer ratchet and clanks arent as good as the PS2 ones. it seems that while insomniac has gone a darker, mature route with the resistance games, they have polarized and made the RnC games more kid friendly.

of course, there is one thing I absolutely loved about "crack in time" and that was "the space exploration" and the "deep space jams" jazz music to go along with it. those parts were one of the most enjoyable experiences I have ever had in gaming im not being hyperbolic. it really struck a cord with me.

despite not being as funny as the originals, there are still a few good laughs. like when captain quark says

"look at the ancient craftsmenship on this door. probably thousands of years old......" *kicks it down* "TAKE THAT, CULTURE!!"

and in the latest game he says "hmm..... not bad. I'd give it an 8.5" I cant beleive they made that reference

but anyway, pretty much everything you said is true. the original trilogy are utterly perfect platforming adventure games. 10/10s each, in my book. TOD I would probably give an 8.5/10. Quest for booty would be much of the same. a crack in time I would give a solid 9/10.

there arent as many memorable tracks in the regular soundtrack but the deep space jams kinda make up for it, in my book. I mean, this stuff here is orgasmic to me.

I personally like the deep space jams more than the fallout 3 radio stations.

insomniac is dead, they have made so many mixed games i think they dont know what they are doing anymore
