The Last of Us definitely.

The Last of Us was the overall Winner of Game of The Year 2013.

But this is Gamespot and they chose A Link Between Worlds.

Pretty much this. Cows need to raise their standards instead of getting excited about barely above average games. GTA V and LoZ ALBW were both way better than TLOU.

A link between worlds was easily GOTY. fantastic music, great puzzles nice world and tons of stuff to do. There isn't enough praise that can be heaped onto this gem of a game.

TLOU was. The only ones who don't agree on this are the ones who've never played it

TLOU was the global winner of course and will be hurting people for years to come it seems.
But there are a heap of other games that are better in some ways than Gamespots choice of Zelda.
Like GTA5, Bioshock, AC4, Tomb Raider, Ni No kuni, Metro, Tearaway, and Indie titles like Papers Please, Stanley Portable, Gone home etc.
Depends on your gaming experience and tastes really.
Be glad there are a varied range of games from rpg's to fps and epic action adventure games.

Personally? Bioshock Infinite. The Last of Us, Tomb Raider, and Heart of the Swarm are up there, too.

I really should finish GTA V. And play A Link Between Worlds sometime this decade. Hell of a year, last year.

Eh, I'd probably give the SMALLEST edge to TLOU over GTA because the multiplayer actually kicks ass and they didn't make everyone 2 weeks after launch to play it. R* pretty much got it tried as a separate entity by doing that which saved V from losing a few points because that shit didn't work when it first released.

In terms of SP, it's too damn hard for me to determine which i liked more overall. TLOU had the story and atmosphere with good gameplay while GTA has length and variety of being an sandbox game (belonging to the king of the genre) with 3 playable characters.

@Liquid_: Oh boy are you upset about this. BTW, wasn't it all about MC scores and sales just a while ago with PS fans? GTA 5 outsold TLOU on the PS3, and it outscored it on MC. It's basically the biggest game of last years, because, it's GTA.

TLOU was well received, critically acclaimed, and while i personally don't find it to be anything special, it's a well made game and a fantastic job from ND. You don't have to try and elevate it to a Jesus status more.

The official MC score is a compilation of scores from official sites and magazines like GS, ign, etc. It's the user scores that can be easily skewed. And it's quite common actually.

MC is basically the "omnipotent entity" in game scoring, since it's a compilation. Hell, i remember one dev saying that many developer want to get their games at 90+ on metacritic. So gamers, even here on SW, use it has teh supreme measuring tool. Ense, my point.

TLOU haven't played Zelda but even if I did I predict it wouldn't be as good as ALTTP which is a game I would just put behind TLOU.

The Last of US was GOTY, but it should have been Grand Theft Auto 5.

The Last of Us was great and Super Mario 3D World was insanely fun too, but i liked Zelda much more, its always a great year when you have a Zelda game, better yet if it was a damn fine one.

Also, don't know why cows are still mad at this, Last of Flops didn't stand a chance, so it wasn't a surprise.

Anyway i didnt like the last of us, blurry textures, crappy ai, subpar shoting mechanics, meh animations. Why doesnt tomb raider get some love? The graphics production, combat ai and animations in that game are far better than the last of us. Feels like TLOU and gta v stole most its victory. But what should they have done delay it to 2014?

Because blurry textures and subpar shoting mechanics aren't a deal breaker in The Last of Us, since plot and characters is what really stands out in this game.

I hate how games have become into this scripted interactive movie nonsense. 50-100 millions wasted on how cinematic the game is, not the actual gameplay, the "devs" who make those games propably started playing games in 2005. They should GTFO off the game industry and go work for pixal or freaking hollywood where they belong.

@Lulu_Lulu: honestly they should GTFO, i play tomb raider for dodging traps and finding tombs not shooting hobos in a brown and grey island and having control taken away from me ever 10 steps so lara can step into something and get injured while the voice actress does tries to "Act" all those injuries out (she made a statement about that)

I play wolfenstein to kill nazis and mechs with weird weapons, not so BJ Blazkowicz can have a love interest and have inner monologues about how he hates war and all that nonsense.

You're directing blame in the wrong direction.... The problem is not that studios are making games like this, the problem is somebody is paying good money specifically for games like this, you gotta examine this thing from the sauce.

Ni No Kuni was my personal GOTY, such a fantastic game.

Can't blame them for doing what they're suppose to do. Infact I sympathize more with these corporate bastards than I do with someone who plays games for anything other than gameplay. Obviously theres more to a game than gameplay but they should never compensate for it.

@Lulu_Lulu: Obviosuly there is more but when games cost 100 milion and focus on cinematic stuff and most of the budget goes there, you should stop making "games" and go to hollywood since there arent any advantages at what you are doing, its harder, more expensive and you get less sales.

I played it, I found it to be profoundly overrated just like all Naughty Dog games. Not even in my top 5 for 2013 (maybe not even in my top 10)

I played all of those religiously but no doubt TLoU was of highest quality.

indeed. There was nothing that was going to outsell V on ps3. MAYBE Call of Duty if it ever reaches its amazing former glory, but I doubt that'll happen. New IP? Not a chance.

So glad V wasn't a complete fucking disappointment like IV was.
