Fun list to check through... Nintendo owns the top 10 and crappy games like uncharted fell mightily... Not sure I agree with #1, but I also recognize it's a great game. Portal 2 at #3 is also an incredible pick. P2 is as perfect a video game as I've played in the medium.

Highest scoring modern game is Botw (because it's the best open world game ever made... Ign fact.

Only one uncharted game on the list... It is officially a bottom 50 franchise. Ign fact. (lol)

Bioshock is better than Witcher 3 (Ign fact)

Also, Halo Combat evolved is Ign factually better than both minecraft and the legend of Zelda Ocarina of time.

These are Ign facts and this matter is settled.

@TheEroica: also, please remember that Ign does this every couple years. Use your brains and realize if they named the exact same games every time there would be no reason to print the article.

We just happen to live in a world where people aren't afraid to say dark Souls is a better game than ocarina of time. It doesn't have to change anyone else's view.

After a quick glance I can tell you right off the bat that D:OSII not being farther down the list is sheer nonsense. That game deserves to be in the top thirty or so, easily. And the number 1 slot is absurd. I mean, it's a classic and all, but not better than Super Mario Bros. 3, which is a way deeper game. I'd personally go with Super Metroid as #1, but whatever. Good to see Silent Hill 2 in there...even though I would put Silent Hill 1 in instead.
As for all of the games they missed, well, I'm not going there. Suffice to say they missed A LOT.

There are plenty of choices I don't agree with, but overall it's a pretty good list. I'd probably keep half of those games if I were doing a top 100.

You could do much worse if you were only able to play these 100 games for the rest of your life.

What is it with some gamers on this thread taking IGN's ranking personally as if it is gospel? I see the same whining everytime a ranking thread is posted. Why take the game rankings personally?

Is this some sort of joke?? Major games missing, the list is all scrambled, also some very bland games in there.

This list is actually pretty good.

I disagree with many of the rankings (Monkey Island 2, Fallout 2 and Thief 2 should be near the top, not the bottom), but the selection of games is overall quite good. Some of the rankings are actually quite agreeable, like FF7 being very low down the list, and Portal 2 and a bunch of Nintendo games in the top 10.

Then again, no Planescape Torment? It's an odd exclusion.

Honestly, I don't hate that ranking. BG2 is an excellent game, but I think it just misses out on being in my top 10 RPGs of all time.

Treat them as irrelevant if you think they're full of shit, pretty simple.

Besides that a pretty good list with a lot of great games on it. However it’s pretty clear that the list is made by a console lover and not a member of the pc master race:)

A lot of my top favorites are there somewhere at least - God of War , The Last of Us , Metal Gear Solid , Metal Gear Solid 3 , Uncharted 2 , Shadow of the Colossus , Bloodborne.

The incredible God of War II and God of War III didn't make it though. How some these games made it and those God of War's didn't is a bit baffling to me , but at least God of War is respresented.

The top ten was okay, but it just devolved from there. I understand that tastes deviate, but just rehashing these lists with new "rules" is just silly. Say it and stick to it... Though IGN is notorious for rehashing articles for clicks... I'm sure other websites are as well.

Glad I have no nostalgia on mario and zelda. BOTW or any Mario game will never be in my top ten but BOTW definitely was an amazing game.

A lot of great games in that list although my ordering would be different.

My god that list is terrible... there might be 7 I would put in the top 100... if that. I know that these lists are personal preference but there are so many better games.

@djoffer: ive been meaning to try divinity, I want to get it on either ps4 or switch, I just havent made up my mind, I'm leaning towards switch to play handheld, seems like it would be a good time in handheld, isnt it turnbased? Also I never played the first, does it matter if I just jump straight into 2?

I think I might agree with that. Games like Morrowind, Skyrim and World of Warcraft are great. But there is too many things in them that aren't great. BotW is both huge, varied and polished as hell. One of the finest open world games, if not the finest.

No Uncharted should even be near a top 100 of all time.

I also think the Portal games shouldn't be in a top 100 at all, let alone among the top 20. They're demo games to me with a fun idea. Would be nice if they made a real game out of the fun idea instead of something you blast through under 3 hours. It's not like they're fun to replay either, since you remember all puzzles when they're so short.

Not a bad list. I definitely don't agree with the order though. I didn't think Super Mario World was still that highly regarded compared to 3. Out of the Nintendo stuff, I'm pretty disappointed Mario Galaxy didn't make it. That's a masterpiece level game from them.

I'm surprised at just how much of this list I've played. Thank god they didn't put disappointing ass GTA IV on there. Their review of that reads like a paid ad. I didn't read reviews from their site again for a long time after that.

An IGN listicle about "best games evar" that they do and redo on a regular basis is about as pointless and clickbaity as the internet gets.

That doesn't mean I didn't read it though :P

Pretty decent list to be honest, Breath Of The Wild as the best "modern" game is correct and there's a nice representation of classics and newer stuff.

Uncharted 4 would be in mine, for sure. A fantastic adventure with a lovely ending, albeit you'd need to have played 1, 2 and 3 for the story and characters to have the most impact.

Portal 1 was the "demo" though, Portal 2 was a full game? Do you mean you dislike the test chamber concept vs a more organic world? Cos the second one definitely took me far longer and had a lot more story and gameplay concepts.

True, Portal 2 was longer, about double the length of Portal 1. Still short, in my opinion.

Don't get me wrong, I like them. But I also find them very overrated. And there are so many good games now that I'd find it hard to include them in my top 100 of all time.

@Litchie: Fair enough, there's no law that they have to be in your top 100, though most of the internet might disagree :P

For me, I prefer a short game that nails it to a longer game that drags things out. I more commonly think "this game should be shorter" than "longer".

Lol at Rise of the Tomb Raider being the 55th best game ever made. That invalidates the entire thing.

I don't think it's wise to do a list like this. Too much work, there's hundreds of thousands of games.

@Litchie: portal 1 was a 3 hour experiment that went really well... Portal 2 however is a fully fleshed out 20 hour game with a wildly perfect coop that nearly doubles the experience in meaningful ways. Portal 2 also has a great story and one of the best endings of last generation...

Portal 2, to me definitely deserves top 3 nods.. Its as perfect as anything I've ever played.

Why don't you all make your own lists and then take the average?

Personally I've played a little over half of these games, so my personal list (like most of yours) would be pretty different.

If there was a top comment about all these top games of all time articles, this would be it.

Or top 100 at least.

@dimebag667: you should start a thread. Compile the communities votes on a spreadsheet or Google form and then push out the results. System wars used to do this all the time.
