They both play like 90% of the same games so it wouldn't matter to me, but parobably PS3 just cause I wouldn't have to use the horrible 360 D-pad for platformers and fighters.
Ah, if I never owned either of the two and I didn't own my Blu-Ray player (Bought it only because my PS3 broke); I'd probably go with the PS3 if it were $299.99 (Gt to get my money's worth, damn it). I have a gaming PC to game on so I don't necessarily "need" my Xbox 360. (Though it is an absolutely spectacular console) :P

But if it's so stupid why did you respond. A lot of people think the 360 is better regardless of price. I'm just wondering if they were the same price if they'd think that. For me when buying a console i want the best one. If i have to pay an extra $100 now ill do it. I'm just trying to figure out which one is really better. People can say money doesn't matter and doesn't influence a majority of people but that's a lie. Money makes hte world go round.
I tried to make it fair by taking blu-ray out of the equation because i want the best game console and blu-ray doesn't really affect games too much so far.

Apparently yes, because a lot of people think the 360 is better when it's just priced differently. I can understand liking the 360's controller and it's assortment of games as well as live. I have both right now. I'm honestly not sure which is the better game console, but if they were the same price i agree, the ps3 would be blowing the 360 away right now and those htings wouldnt exist. That's marketing and economics for you.
Price has nothing to do with it for most people, it's all about the games for hardcore players. Games were the deciding factor last gen, thats why the PS2 slaughtered the competition, because it had games as well as a cheaper price over the more expensive Xbox, and the inverse is true now to some extent, the hardcore players are buying 360's because they are cheaper, casuals are buying the Wii cause they are stupid nubs and the PS3 is stuck with only loyal fans and people who want the few exclusives they have and are loyal to Sony's franchise games.

Well, "specifically for a game console" i'd still go with 360. Throwing away games and just saying, "which one would you go with" with no criteria outside of my personal wants, PS3. I purchased a 360 for Bio-Ware games and the hope that Rare would give me a sequel to Conker or Jet Force Gemini. With a PS3, i'd miss out on those, but I feel like MGS4 is a good replacement for Mass Effect and in all honesty I doubt Rare is gonna give me a new Conker or Jet Force Gemini. Plus i'd have a Blu-Ray player. 360 + Blu-Ray = PS3. If they're the same price, i'm gonna go for the one that throws in a blu-ray player for free.
Since I have both already, I'm not effected by their price, and knowing what I know having owned both for a while, if they both died and I had to pick just one of them up, it's easy: 360 all the way. My Xbox friends list dwarfs the handful of people on my PSN list. What's more, I like LIVE. But I sure would miss the PS3's ability to upscale DVDs.
A lower price wouldn't make ps3 any less of a shooter console.

The 360 is MUCH more of a shooter console than the ps3. It's just that the ps3 best games recently have been shooters, while the 360 have been getting more JRPG's, but the 360 have WAY more shooters that the ps3
I love how so many people say price is not a factor and yet people bash the PS3 for its price. Anyone who says price isn't a factor likely had their Daddy's credit card. At any rate, I would say PS3, assuming that the PS3's reduced price was due to cheaper production costs, which in turn could've meant that Sony could've kept some more exclusives.
