Imagine if Batman is an Xbox exclusive? Then it would be Batman vs Spider-Man. I'm not sure if Warner Bros would want that. But what do you think, SW? Would MS try to make WB games exclusive to Xbox/PC? Something tells me no. I look at Minecraft as an example.

Probably not. Microsoft shares their "exclusives" more than the other two these days.

Most likely. Isn't that what gamers more specifically Sony fannies always wanted?

I kinda doubt it, but who knows. I could see MS trying to get an angle on Spider-Man, but at the same time they seem to care about exclusivity in any form less and less as time goes on. Weren't they even talking recently about putting MS-developed games on PS?

Would make sense. Games already in production would stay multiplatform, but all future games will be Xbox and PC only.

Sucks, but that's the nature of the business.

I doubt it. MS is a software company. They've made their "living" selling operating systems, office programs, etc to anyone who would pay good money for it. The console "game" has been the exception, and they've recently re-discovered the joys of playing nice because more people buy their shiz

What's the point of buying a developer if not to make their games exclusive?

100% will they be exclusive. Only way I see them sharing is if Nintendo or Sony share as well.

Xbox/PC are as multiplat as they'll get. Which is fine. MS has been pretty good at keeping PC and Xbox releases day and date with each other.

Well, the answer should be obvious, but to make money.

Honestly I’m not sure. I could see strong reasons for both sides. Mortal Kombat makes a lot of money from other platforms but would also be a HUGE draw as an exclusive.

Of Course the point would be to try to make Game Pass the Killer App Gaming Sub Service.

This would be about making sure competitors don't get it on their service first.

For example: beating Google's Stadia or Amazon to the purchase.

Phil Spencer also warned not to get used to XGS studios releasing games on other consoles. The newly purchased studios are just finishing up existing contracts that have to be multiplat because of the original deal.

I would expect the same with WB which publishes its own games meaning XGS would not have any prior obligations to release multi-plats. The exception would probably be games already deep into development. Why not release those?

if MS buys WB, MK will be exclusive to MS so I think it will trigger Sony to continue SF exclusive deal to combat it.

Honestly WB for $4billion doesnt seem appealing when the IP like DC comics and LotR not coming with it.

I am glad no one is celebrating this rumored buyout. I do know that if it was Sony a certain group would be celebrating. These acquisitions are going to be problematic in the long run.

Seems that some of the companies they buy are in process of supporting multiplatform games and MS lets them finish. Was at least case for Minecraft, outer Worlds, and Hellblade that I can think of. Maybe big difference here might be that I don't have a clue what WBIE is currently working on.

The fact that this rumor is now this high profile, automatically gives oxygen to the Sega and CDProjekt Red rumors that have been going around for the last couple years, with Phil's meetings with Sega, his trips to Japan and Poland and the rumored talks that happened in both countries.

The whole "They would never buy Sega, they would cost too much, MS would never spend that much money" thing is out the window now that $4 billion is being floated as a practical number for this deal.

Also, the whole "MS would never buy a publisher" thing is also over. Whether this happens or not, we now know that MS buying a publisher is a thing that is on the table.

Also, "MS would never buy a public company", if this is true it would mean they'd be buying a publishing division that is a wholly owned subsidiary of a public company from that company.

Basically, there are no more "rules" and all of the "this would never happen" stuff is out the window.

I don't want Microsoft buy Warner Bros Games. I also don't want Sony to do the same as well. Seeing games such as Mortal Kombat being exclusive would suck.

I don't think Warner Bros will contract them to produce their IP.

They'd be better off licensing individual IP to different publishers.

That being said, I don't think they do pull it off. I suspect it'll likely be EA.

Yea, Mortal Kombat has been multiplat for as long as it's been around. I think people would be upset if they locked it away from other consoles. Even the Switch was getting Mortal Kombat lol.

I could see Microsoft going the "timed exclusive" route, releasing games on Xbox and PC simultaneously, and then on other platform(s) six or nine months later.

Honestly, don't know how this deal will benefit anyone. WB will definetly not sell their IP's, which means that games like Batman and Mortal Kombat will be given to other devs. I just don't see the point in that. Wouldn't it be easier to make the deal with lets say an Activizion/Blizzard?

If they're buying WB then yeah. If I'm a console gamer, I'm going where the Arkham games are going. So whoever owns them would be silly to not make the games exclusive.

Whilst I believe that they will make it exclusive if they buy WB I see no logical reason why they would do it.

They should follow Sony's route and buy cheaper console exclusives or timed exclusives.

Buying a whole studio would be risky and financially taxing.

I can't see it happening... it'll cost too much to buy.

But if it did, of course the games would be Xbox/Win 10 exclusive (with some maybe eventually going to Steam).

If this gets me Mortal Kombat vs Killer Instincts, I'm down for the buyout!

Anyways, I would rather MS get it than EA or some other crappy company, if the day comes, I'll just buy the games on PC.

There’s other competition besides just Sony and Nintendo. There’s also Amazon and Google.

The sale doesn’t include intellectual properties like Harry Potter, DC Comics properties, Lord of the Rings, etc..it’s just for the development studios. It would however include Mortal Kombat
