Downloadable games when were talking about Consoles for PS3/360/Wii. The downloads for PSP on the Playstation Store are full fledged PSP titles. There is a difference

They do count , they just aren't lumped in with the disc games.

What about Onlive? Wanna make up a new rule for that too while you're at it?

You're not downloading games with Onlive -- you're streaming the content off their servers, and considering OnLive games are just PC games and the such that are ALREADY released via retail, it's irrelevant.

Yep this whole DLC games don't count is the dumbest thing in the world. Well there is one thing dumber and that is GS reviews. They have been very terrible this gen...I think a random number generator could do better. It's sad we saddle ourselves with GS reveiws so we can claim ownage on other fanboys. And then we try to limit ownage by saying Downloaded games don't count (unless it's also on a disk). Then we get odd things like Lost & Damned going to disk...oh nooooos what's a fanboy to do? Then we have the possibility of onlive actually gettting released....oh nooooos that breaks SW fanboy logic. Then we have PSP Go....fanboys are in meltdown...they will need to change their rules which will upset the ownage applecart.

I don't think the debate whether or not PSN, XBLA etc. games "count" or not actually has much to do with the games being downloadable, that's just the method of distribution, the discussion was more about the games themselves, as in content/production value/price and how those affect review scores.

The downloadable games not counting is because DL games are usually small compared to a full retail game.

this is the correct awnser. if we start comparing retail games to arcade games we might aswell have graphic comparisons between the pc and DS.

Pretty certain the Go! isn't going to have different games than the PSP. They're just going to be downloadable instead. Still full-fledged games.

It's like saying PC games don't count because Steam lets you download lots of games.

Silly me I thought it was about the BEST GAMES and not the most EXPENSIVE GAMES. But I guess Sony or MS could end this debate in one move...if one of them raised their costs to $100/game then they could claim they have the only true full games this gen. I'll take a AAA game like Braid over just about any game out there. The fact is the AAA takes into account the cost of the game...this is true for all games. Ever hear of Orange box...one of the most compelling things about OB is that it was cheap for all you get with it (even though some of it was old games), but portal for $50 is a joke...if portal is $10 then wow AAA materical all the way.

Ah, so all those multi disk games that are on the 360 or those packed full of data bluray disks (regardless of content) are automatically better than any single disk AAA game. Nice to know. Where is that one in the SW playbook. games are games and I'm here to talk about great games on the various platforms.

Ambli
if dl games don't count that means 95% of games released in the last year don't count. every new game is on steam or d2d so they don't count going by dl games don't count logic. If a game is reviewed it counts no mater where you get it from.

The downloadable games not counting is because DL games are usually small compared to a full retail game.

SeanDiff
explain the games like tunnel rates and killing floor they are just as big as many big name games but only avaliable via dowloading. http://store.steampowered.com/search/?term=Killing+Floor

What people mean by downloadable games are those like Braid, or Fat Princess which arent full games when compared to a $60 retail game, thats why when they are reviewd they have different standards. Thats why they arent included since a $10 downloadable game isnt reviewed under the same criteria that a $60 game would be. But if its a retail game for download like Burn out Paradise then it counts.

I think Gamespot will change with the times. I can almost understand their reasoning at the beginning of this gen... but now DLC is more than just a few map packs and side quests. Some are full fledged games.
