As the title says; this thread is for you to try to convince other people to buy a game that was released this year but went under the radar for whatever reason and you think it deserves to be played by everyone; with that said I'll start with mine:

Valkyria Chronicles 4

Valkyria Chronicles 4 is a JRPG with unique gameplay and graphic style; it has a more realistic and modern setting than most JRPG with tanks and guns replacing dragons and swords in a world way too similar to WW2 Europe.

It is available in the three current consoles and STEAM; with a Metacritc score in the range of 82-85 depending of the platform and it's on sale on STEAM and PS4 right now.

It is by no means a GOTY contender but it is a great game that few will regret purchasing and it's a perfect Christmas present.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to everyone in the forum.

I have no idea why I haven't got this yet. I want to play it but something, I can't put my finger on, is putting me off.

@adsparky: yeah Valkyria Chronicles 4 has been great. The dialogue is corny and ponderous but it's really fun and a good twist between tactical X-com like combat and JRPG

@adsparky Got it during the BF sales. Haven't played it yet but liked the first two games. Is the DLC worthwhile? Seems a little pricey but since I only paid $30 for the game I wouldn't getting some DLC if it's good.

I can't imagine being locked to my TV when playing Hollow Knight.

The hundred tries to beat the radiance would have taken much much longer had I been tethered to my television like a caveman.

I know man, Valkyria Chronicles 4 looks super awesome.

It's just ... I haven't even played the first Valkyria Chronicles yet :(

It's been sitting in my backlog for ages.

You can play 4 without playing 1.

I'm holding out for this one. I absolutely love the first two and I have yet to play the third one even though I have it ready for me on my psp. I'm a cheap gamer I have yet to spend over $18 on a single game this gen (to be fair I brought a ps4 a month ago) and I'll continue that trend.

Forza Horizon 4 is a bit understated. Not just any racing game, fun "arcade" style racing similar to a modern cruisin' game, online multiplayer densely populated, various game modes - arguably the definitive arcade racing game.

I did play VC4 (bought it twice actually: PC and Switch), and it was phenomenal. I disagree with you that it's not GOTY caliber though, because I liked it much more than GoW, RDR2, and Spider-Man, which I still all enjoyed. Hell, other than the story, I think VC4 is better than VC1 too.

Anyway, my recommendation would be any Yakuza game. No series will make you laugh as hard or feel all the feels like Yakuza does, and oh yeah, they're really fun to play too. Plus, there isn't a better video game character than Goro Majima, so...

I was waiting for all of them to be released to purchase and play them all together without realising that they all have been released; I just played the two DLC that came with the collectors edition and the one with Squad 7 is actually pretty good and lenghty even when some voices were changed; as for the price yes I guess thet're kinda of expensive.

I dunno why but I want to thank you for purchasing it two times; I plan to do the same after I complete some games on STEAM; for me it is my GOTY, but my opinion is completely biased because my favorite game is the original Valkyria Chronicles since it was released on the PS3 and Valkyria Chronicles 4 is all I wanted in a sequel for it.

As for the Yakuza series, do you have to play them chronologically?

I still need to beat it, but I've played a bunch of it. I think I just have two chapters left, it's been pretty good.

‘Valkyria Chronicles 4 is a JRPG’

Nope, not interested. It’s probably not even on Xbox so it’s an easy pass for me anyway.

@adsparky: lol, well you don't need to thank me. When it comes to my favorite games, especially those that need the sales, I like to buy a physical version to go along with my primary PC copy. I just hope VC4 is a slow burner like VC1 was, because it unfortunately hasn't done well, and it didn't help that it released in such a crowded month.

In regards to Yakuza, you don't have to play them chronologically, and most of them have a recap. With that said, I would highly recommend starting with Yakuza 0, because not only is it the best entry point, I think most fans would agree that it's the best game in the series.

@Sevenizz: VC isn't a jrpg in the traditional sense. It can be classified as a TBS game and is more like Xcom than your typical Final Fantasy, or what have you. It also came out on everything, including Xbox.

Hmm.. I remember seeing it on the PS3. Knew they enhanced it for the PS4. Just don't know whether I have enough time to play it.

@goldenelementxl: it's not really a JRPG. Not in the sense people usually mean. I'd say it's more like X-Com set in a Harry Turtledove alternative reality WW2. The animation (not the gorgeous artwork, mind you) and dialogue are just... JRPGish.

It is very hard for me to buy Sega games. They abandoned my favorite games (Skies of Arcadia, Shining Force, Phantasy Star), and instead make stuff like this. I will never understand this company.

@mojito1988: I haven't played Yakuza, but IMO Valkyria Chronicles is actually pretty faithful to Sega's (non platforming) legacy. Oddly so, in this era of open world sandboxes
