I absolutely hate the DLC/Expansion system, having to throw $40 every couple of months is ridiculous (which is exactly why I stopped playing and buying Battlefields...). I don't mind the grind, I don't mind that I might never get the best stuff unlocked, all I care about is that I get to run around in a beautifully done Star Wars game and have the same content delivered to me at the base price of $60 as everyone else, even if it's locked for me, at least I still have the possibility to grind for it. From all the alternative models EA could've gone with (realistically, it's EA...), this to me is the best. It's all down to personal opinion anyway. Plus dropping a few bucks to unlock that one hero you love and want is a whole lot cheaper than having to buy an entire DLC/Expansion from which you probably won't even use everything

I like the loot boxes but they need more ways to get credits a good player should be able to get 1000 a match and a bad at least should get 500. For Micro transactions they need cosmetics to fuel the free DLC.

Seems you have more time and/or money than you know what to do with. Lots of people don't. That's why loot boxes suck.

Well, to say you enjoy an artificially inflated grind because of the loot box system does suggest that you have a sizable amount of time on your hands. I enjoy a bit of a grind, too, but I draw the line at grinding more than I have to because some publisher is trying to get me to spend money on loot boxes. By the way, it's never "just a few dollars". That's how addiction starts...

Justin True-Doh sucks. We need a Trump type leader in Canada.

Anyway. I don’t like loot boxes, but I don’t mind if they exist. I simply don’t buy them. As long as they make leveling up/grinding “fair”, then I am happy.

As long as I can reach the level cap without making it feel like a drag is a good thing. Destiny is a game that does it wrong. Apparently when you hit level 20 or something, your XP you earn basically does nothing which makes no sense to me.

Well I see there is no logic with a-lot of gamer's. Would you rather the game sold to you in planed DLC packs. Or let the morons that can't help them self's waste their money on loot boxes funding the game and get the DLC included in the $60 price. Now when Bad Company 3 comes out we will be back to the $100 for the whole game. But only 20% of player base paid for the DLC and the DLC MP content will be dead soon after.

Call of duty black ops 3, bought the season pass but never get any games with the new maps I paid for. Same thing with Battlefield 3 and 4.

If it keeps going the way it is, we'll be paying cash for ammo soon but you'll need to get it through a loot box with random calibres, so you won't necessarily get the ammo that you actually want.

Personally I'd rather buy a full game and have map packs included as support from the developer for free and the ability for the community to make their own maps. I'd also like to see fixed classes where the playing field is level regardless if you've played zero hours or a thousand (the person with a thousand hours has the advantage of knowledge). That's the way it used to be before publishers got really greedy and decided to monetise everything.

I have no issues with paying for expansions that actually advance the game, nor do I have issue with a micro-transaction system, for cosmetic items, where you can buy exactly what you want.

So let me get this straight; you're opposed to set priced DLC with complete transparency of what content is being paid for (missions, weapons, upgrades, skins, etc...) but.... you are totally fine with a monetization system that provides no consistency in what items are obtained in purchase AND, due to the randomized properties perpetuates repetition in spending; having to buy loot boxes over and over again in attempt to beat the odds of getting the desired item.

So a combined price of $100 of core game with DLC is bad, but a content distribution method with no price ceiling, that can rack up costs well in excess of $100, from $300 to potentially $3000 and well above that (where there are numerous examples that this has happened)... that, THAT'S a reasonable pricing model to you?

You have NO business questioning anybody's logic.

That only makes sense if its a one or the other... They do both. Loot boxes are the cherry on the cake of the layered s*** that gaming has become.

You get the standard game for $60... the delux version is $70+... The Premium DLC pack is $40... Or $15 per pack then you have the Loot boxes built in.

Not sure what world you live in where things are a choice, games are clearly BUILT for you to want to buy more than the standard game by locking away the good looking guns/character models behind pay walls and DLC, that also includes the better maps.

Its not a either situation its both... They want both to exist and the standard game is the bait. Like hey you having fun with that $60 dollar game?... Look at these new maps they look better than what you are play now don't they!... Or hey you see that awesome character model or gun?... Yeah you need a premium loot box in order to get that, but first you need to buy our in game currency which starts at $5-10.

Its a joke.

I know that that is why i do not buy call of duty anymore they divide the player base to those with the DLC and thoes who do not. So at the end of the day when you buy the DLC it it becomes useless after the first few weeks it comes out. Then it is back to the same old base game maps.

I like what EA did, here is the game $60 and you never have to spend anymore money and you will get all the DLC. I have the game, did some grinding, got the star cards I want. Most of the loot crate stuff is useless and only a problem for those that need every item and wont stop until they have it all but only use 10% of it in the game.

OK so you're someone who wants to run around in pretty Star Wars without caring about the gameplay. So your opinion represents pretty much 0 gamers.

Besides the problem is not Battlefront 2 itself. The problem is this shit entering all the games you wanted to play from AAA studio's. You can't convince me that you don't care about gameplay in any game and are still considering yourself a gamer. I'm not attacking you I am challenging your stance here because I think if it's true, it is not a lasting argument and you will very soon find yourself on the opposite end with us yelling at lootboxes and how they destroyed something you were anticipating for a long time. Like Red Dead Redemption 2 for many of us.

no let me ask it again. read carefully.

you guy a game, later there is an expansion (I mean DLC) that offers new content. but because its called a DLC and not an expansion you find that unreasonable and you are not going to buy the core game.

you feel if you buy Sims 2 for example, that you are required to buy all the expansions (I mean DLCs) because they are for sale?

a DLC is an expansion by a different name

@tryit: DLC is not the same as an expansion pack by default. The vast majority of DLC content do not come anywhere near the content you'd get in a standard expansion.

Some of the worst examples of modern DLC are map packs, these used used to be drip fed from the developers for free and usually along with a bug patch, others are the usual crap like the classic (and source of all this evil) and now infamous horse armour. On the opposite side, Blood and Wine for the Witcher 3 is a classic example of an expansion done well.

When it comes to trash DLC v's Lootboxes, give me horse armour all day long. At least that way I know what I'm not buying.

ok so its a smaller expansion that you still do not have to buy.

The size of the content doesnt really change the point of the observation.

When I bought Sims 2, I didnt make that choice based on feeling required to buy all the expansions that would later come (regardless of how much content there was). I can not buy expansions. in fact in many games i have bought I did not buy the expansion.

its pretty much exactly the same thing

Even if they are only cosmetics, you are dealing with sharks who don't see or want some line in the sand who think way, way ahead at the end game, which is usually screwing the consumer as hard as they can.

@UssjTrunks: Live in Canada but I would take trump over my current Prime Minster. Socialism sucks big time and it is growing ever stronger here.

Curious, what's the big problem with Socialism?

There isn't any problem. The most affluent countries in the world also have the the most socialist policies (Norway, Sweden, Germany, etc.).

There is a correlation between Trump support (and conservatism in general) and support for loot boxes, a stereotype the OP predictably fit.

Yeah, i agree with the topic. First was outraged when hearing about it and then after playing the game, fear no more. Media/blow hards made a mountain out of a mole hill.

You can earn everything playing the game, loot boxes are random but you can use crafting parts to unlock/upgrade whatever you want. I just bank my crafting points and upgrade/unlock the stuff i want, nothing random about that. With all the rewards you unlock by playing the game n modes its easy to get what you want.

It was pay for an advantage, then they took that out (temporarily). The grind was going to be way worse, they lessened it. Then you started playing the game. And now you can use crafting parts to get cards you want at a low level, because getting them to max takes a very large amount of crafting parts. Most of the cards you end up getting will be through loot boxes to get the crafting parts necessary to upgrade them. So it's still a very random progression system or a very slow one waiting for cp.

The problem with BF2 is mainly that they wanted to go for pay for advantage and lootcrates as a progression system, and those things have been somewhat removed from the game (temporarily). Naturally it wouldn't be as bad now as people are making it out to be as they changed some things. It's still a disasterpiece. It could have been a much better game if any half-decent publisher would have had the opportunity to publish a game of this nature, and the precedent it sets for all other AAA titles in our future is quite harmful.

@Addict187: Just because you don't mind the grind doesn't justify it.

I feel the same because I'm an adult and can restrain myself from the lootboxes. Only problem I have is when kids are subjected to the lootbox bs. There will be alot of angry parents when their kids start asking for $ when the paid boxes are turned back on.
