Excluding the fanboys because that's obvious, there are some people that act as if Microsoft have not been releasing many owned first party IP games whether built by their internal studios or otherwise. So i made the following comparison chart.

Xbox One Released so far

2013:

  1. Crimsom Dragon
  2. Forza 5
  3. Xbox Fitness
  4. Halo Spartan Assault
  5. Max: Curse of bortherhood
  6. Killer Instince
  7. Lococycle
  8. Powerstar golf
  9. Zoo Tycoon

2014:

D4

  1. Forza Horizon 2
  2. Project Spark
  3. Halo MCC
  4. Kinect Sports Rivals
  5. Kalimba
  6. Minecraft

2015:

  1. Halo 5
  2. Scream Ride
  3. Gears Remake
  4. Forza 6
  5. Rare Replay

2016:

  1. Quantum Break
  2. Gears 4
  3. Recore
  4. Forza Horizon 3

Xbox By the end of this year:

  1. Halo Wars 2 (out now)
  2. Sea of Theives
  3. Crackdown 3
  4. Phantom Dust
  5. Forza 7
  6. Fable Fortune
  7. e3 2017

PlayStation 4 released so far:

2013:

  1. Killzone SF
  2. Knack
  3. Flow/Flower

2014:

  1. Infamous SS
  2. MLB 14
  3. TLOU Remastered
  4. Driveclub
  5. LBP3
  6. Pixel Junk Shooter

2015:

  1. Bloodborne(?)
  2. The Order
  3. mlb 15
  4. GOW III Remastered
  5. Teraway unfolded
  6. Uncharted Collection

2016:

  1. Gravity Rush Remastered
  2. MLB 16
  3. Ratchet and Clank Remake
  4. Hardware: Rivals
  5. Uncharted 4
  6. Last Guardian

PlayStation By the end of this year:

  1. Gravity Rush 2 (out now)
  2. Horizon (out now)
  3. Mlb 17 (out now)
  4. Parappa remastered (out now)
  5. Wipeout collection
  6. locoroco collection
  7. E3 2017

I really don't see a big difference here. The Xbox clearly had the upper hand the first two years with first party and then afterwards everythings kind of even. E3 will show us how 2017 will play out for both Microsoft and Sony, but otherwise i'm not seeing this widening gap on first party releases. The other complaint, diversity, doesn't really show up here as an issue either.

I mean I guess you could argue 2016 since the top 3 games are "technically shooters" on paper but they don't play the same.

Even the Halo/Gears/Forza statement doesn't really work here anywhere except possibly 2015, but that makes a bit of sense since all 3 of them came out the same year and you still had two other ips to play, one containing tons of rare games.

God knows how many you "forgot" for Sony.

Because they don't have as many first party games as Sony and they aren't rated as highly overall. Personally that doesn't really bother me too much because I enjoy Microsoft's first party games more then Sony's overall anyway. It would be nice to see a few more first party games from Microsoft though.

I listed most of boths first party games barring some games I may have missed. For the consoles. So im not getting the "not as many" thing?

The op shows that MS has released a good amount of IP, so when I see people wanting MS to have more diverse IP and releasing new IP its confusing because that's already been happening with the possible arguable exception of 2015.

I also like how a mod who can't read literally dodged my direct question at him.

A lot of games were forgotten for Sony, and even for Microsoft, but it shows indeed that there isn't a problem at all, and that people are exaggerating. Cows are using the argument: "Look at the first months of 2017", which can be easily countered by: "Look at the last months of 2016". Sony chooses to release their big games during the year, and use marketing deals during holiday season, which was great business strategy. Microsoft on the other hand chooses to promote their own titles in holiday season => more money for them in holiday season.

In case of Xbox, and definitely not a game to brag about, but Fighter Within. And that was first on top if my head when I looked at list of 2013. In case of Sony 2017 Nioh.

Dude, Dead Rising 4 and Sunset Overdrive are MS's owned first party games? LOL. MS DOESN'T OWN those games, i mean IP's.

Then you should add Persona 5, World Of Final Fantasy, Guilty Gear, Street Fighter V and so on. Nice try! You're a joke.

MS's "lack" of 1st party/2nd party games is definitely exaggerated, yes.

@tigerdragon:

You forgot to add for PS4 Resogun, The Playroom, Doki-Doki, Escape Plan, Sound Shapes. And Flow/Flower are two different games.

But you add Max, Lococycle for Xbone.

And that's just 2013.

First and foremost do some proper research and then make a proper thread. Not this. Your thread is a joke.

How could TC miss entire studios like Media Molecule (Little Big Planet, Dreams), London Studios (sing Star, VR worlds), Polyphony Digital (Gran Tourismo) or San Diego (Drawn to Death, Killstrain). He also missed some titles from other studios like Bound, What Remains of Edith Finch, Rigs

Max and lococycle are MS ips.

Resogun is not.

I did forgot a couple of those other games though.

Maybe you should do some proper research? (doki doki isn't a sony owned ip)

Rare Replay, halo MCC, and Gears Remake are on there. Is there another remaster for Xbox?

Also Ratchet and Clank was a remake.

Playstation media will downplay the xbox because it not their preferred console this gen. Sony has better games coming out we know about right now, but xbox has new titles in the works and will be announced at E3. When you got more Sony fans than xbox fans this gen, you will see does fake concerns online. Gamer's spreading false information to feel better about their purchase this gen. You see on this forum the way Playstation gamer's act. They talk more about xbox then Playstation.

When Microsoft has State of Decay 2, Seas of Thieves, Cuphead, Crackdown already announced, you still hear xbox one got no games, what? Sony losing the power advantage, they needed another direction of attack.

Best version of Call of Duty will be shown when xbox gamer's play the beta, Sony marketing deal is pointless.

Xbox gamer's will play Starwar's Battlefront 2 a week before Sony gamer's ( Scorpio), again waste of money by Sony.

Because for starters a lot of us are only going to focus on the games that are at least good. So a good chunk of the Kinect stuff is not my cup of tea, after that I wasn't a fan of Quantum Break what so ever, Sunset Overdrive is more okay than good personally, and Crimson Dragon frankly sucked. After that Halo, Gears, Forza, n Forza Horizon have had good entries, but those come off like their bread n butter.

Don't get me wrong you can get hours out of those games given their mechanical depth in multiplayer, but they are also long in the tooth, and have had too many sequels in too short of a time.

That are owned by microsoft and are first party? Yes?

Good chunk of like 1 game?

Sunset isn't a microsoft ip.

Not really a great pick to make a strong argument though

It is because the argument is against people saying they didin't put out varied or many FP titles, and that IS numerically both of those. Also it's only 1 game.

Read the OP this isn't "which had better exclusives" this thread shows that Microsoft had not far from the same amount of games sony had in terms of FIRST PARTY output on their consoles. That complaints had been spreading and doesn't make much sense. One of the reasons it doesn't is because people do what you do and mix up third party exclusives with first party games.

The other was diversity, which they gave multiple times. Oddly enough, the people complaining about diversity and saying we want more games like Quantum and Screamride don't by those games and only buy halo gears forza themselves. Which i find hilarious, and even then they still put out alternatives.

I don't know why I visit these forums any more, someone brings up a good topic, talks about it with respect and dignity, doesn't even bad mouth the competition, and then he gets barraged with personal attacks. It makes sense though, these forums are over taken by the worst fanboys, cows.

"A good chunk of the kinect stuff". Isn't the fitness game and kimba and kinect sports rivals all kinect, and thus a good chunk of it is not my cup of tea, ergo, more than 1 game. Okay fair enough, Sunset isn't a microsoft ip, but as far as first party output is concerned, it's one of those games. And I didn't find it all that good, which is the larger point.

Microsoft has had some chances with new ips: Crimson Dragon, Ryse Son of Rome, Quantum Break, and Sunset Overdrive. But commercially none of them has done absurdly well, and critically I think only Sunset has done fairly okay, and as far as champ needs are concerned, they've been dull to play. Gears of War last gen wasn't a microsoft ip either, Epic owned it, but it was in Microsoft's best interest to continue to be a part of that IPs growth and back it. Were any of these new ips a big hit that sort of way, Microsoft would be all over it.

Sony's funded a lot of new ips as well, but in the same vein, they aren't always that good (in fact, often they are kind of shit), and it's admirable, but my bottom line is going to want something good also.

Show me a list of IP they actually made themselves, that weren't bought from another studio or acquired through the acquisition of a studio. Right now the only franchise that fits that description is Forza.

LOL! Look who's talking. An Xboner. You really don't have a clue.

Doki-Doki is retrieved by Sony.

https://readtiger.com/wkp/en/Doki-Doki_Universe

Resogun is not a Sony's IP? LOL

"2013 Sony Computer Entertainment Europe. Resogun is a trademark of Sony Computer Entertainment America LLC."

Google it.

Damn, Xboner really knows how to spew shit.

You missed Ori and the Blind Forest for MS and that's fantastic.

Here's the issue at hand though, lets talk about AAA first party games that aren't the big 3 (Halo Gears Forza/ Uncharted GoW GT) or remasters.

PS4:

  • Bloodborne
  • Horizon Zero Dawn
  • Ratchet And Clank
  • The Last Guardian
  • Infamous Second Son
  • Gravity Rush 2
  • LittleBigPlanet 3
  • Until Dawn
  • Driveclub
  • Killzone Shadow Fall
  • Knack
  • The Order: 1886

Xbox One:

  • Quantum Break
  • Recore

Like seriously, that's it. The rest are indies and Kinect games. I'm not saying it's fair to strip away the best exclusives on the system just because they're Halo Gears Forza, or indie titles like Ori, but the point is Sony has gotten along just fine without relying on their most well known stuff. They have definately been slower releasing their big guns than MS has, but they have provided much better side stuff. That's where the Microsoft first party complaints come from.

That said these machines can still have exclusives that aren't first party. But even then PS4 steamrolls the Xbox One. MS should just buy the Splinter Cell IP or something, can they do that? I don't know.

You see on this forum the way Playstation gamer's act. They talk more about xbox then Playstation.

When Microsoft has State of Decay 2, Seas of Thieves, Cuphead, Crackdown already announced, you still hear xbox one got no games, what? Sony losing the power advantage, they needed another direction of attack.

.....

What a shitty try. BRAVO

Guys, look at this pathetic Xbone fan! COD and Star Wars marketing is a waste of money for Sony. Guess who sold the most consoles during holidays 2015?

Just because of those types of Xbone fans, the sooner Xbone dies, the better. No more crap threads like this one.

You guys spend too much time worrying about what is or isn't first party and who owns what. The only thing that matters when comparing Playstation and Xbox are games that are on the one and not on the other. Playstation has Yakuza, Nier Automata, Persona 5, Horizon Zero Dawn, Gravity Rush 2, Nioh, Uncharted, The Last Guardian, The Last of Us, Rachet and Clank, Bloodborne, Resogun and Xbone has Halo, Gears, Forza, Super Hot, Ori and the blind forest. That's how I see it.

Which is fine. Those 3rd party games arent on the Bone. I don't care who makes the best games as long as someone does.

The problem is they all feel like you already played time.

After a very very very long gen of Halo, Forza and Gears of War, gamers are kinda sick of it ... especially when almost everything turn out to be another FPS, another TPS or another sim racing ... come one do something else !!!

This is why Sony is interesting. JRPG like Persona 5, story based game like Until Dawn, difficult RPG that feel more like an action game like Bloodborne, Hollywood action movie like Uncharted 4 or open world RPG like Horizon Zero Dawn...

It's not worthless. Any more than the general bickering between console owners is. One system is better than the other is the bottom line of all of this. It doesn't matter if Sony is better because of Sony or someone else. That's my point. You can not care if you want. I would agree with your point completely but there are other factors in this console war. And the console war is why we are even discussing particulars like this in the first place. Being a prick is easy on the internet but not really necessary or beneficial in any way now is it?
