Sling TV, the New Live Internet TV Service, Launching on Xbox One with Exclusive Offer in the Coming Weeks

Our vision at Xbox is to bring your games and entertainment together. Important to that vision is our focus on partnering with television providers and content distributors to deliver rich, differentiated TV and video experiences. Today, we’re pleased to share the news of a relationship with the newly announced Sling TV, which is backed by DISH. Sling TV is an over-the-top, television service that will deliver live sports, lifestyle, family, news and information channels, Video-On-Demand (VOD) entertainment, and the best of Internet video for $20 per month. With Sling TV, there’s no commitment, contract, credit check, hardware installation, or hidden fees. Confirmed channels include ESPN, ESPN2, TNT, TBS, Food Network, HGTV, Cartoon Network, and Disney Channel with more to come. And Xbox One will be the exclusive gaming console when it launches in the coming weeks.

What’s more, as the first gaming console where Sling TV will be available, we’re excited to announce that all Xbox Live members will get an exclusive extended free trial for one month at launch.* ”Xbox is onboard as the first gaming console where Sling TV will be available,” said Bassil El-Khatib, vice president of Sling TV. “We created the live Internet TV service for millennial consumers underserved by the pay-TV industry. One of the keys to reaching this audience is being on the devices they use, and we know millions of consumers are turning on their Xbox every day to access content they love.” “We’re thrilled to partner with Sling TV as they bring this exciting new service to life, and we look forward to launching the Sling TV app on Xbox One in early 2015 as the first gaming console where the service is available,” said Mike Nichols, Corporate Vice President, Marketing for Xbox. “We’re committed to bringing great entertainment options to gamers and our relationship with Sling TV is an important milestone in that journey and in offering more choices to our Xbox fans.” *Sling TV is offered at $20 per month; Xbox Live members must sign up for extended free trial

more info on Sling TV. sounds like a great alternative to these BS cable/dish services:

http://www.cnet.com/news/dish-launches-20-sling-tv-streaming-video-service-with-channel-lineup-that-includes-espn-disney/

The $20 Sling TV base package includes ESPN, ESPN2, Disney Channel, ABC Family, Food Network, HGTV, Travel Channel, TNT, CNN, TBS, Cartoon Network, Adult Swim, and the "best of Internet video" with Maker Studios. Add-on packs with additional kids and news programming will be available for $5 each.

Lynch said the launch channel lineup was set, but the lineup would evolve over time and other channels would be added.

ps4 late to the party once again smh :[ oh well, there's still Playstation TV for cows i guess heh heh hahahahahahahaha. really though, this is a viable service they plan to offer here. it would really help people who want to ditch cable/dish once and for all without having to lose the few stations they do enjoy.

Step in the right direction. All I really need though is NFL channel that broadcasts any game and all touchdowns during the season.

I will buy the shows I really want from Amazon.

If this thing offered NFL network instead of one of those channels, I'd get it asap.

You do know that Sony has Playstation Vue, right? It will be in direct competition with Sling TV.

It should be launching within the first quarter of this year.

I'm looking forward to giving the free trial a chance.. It it works as advertised, I'll be cutting the cord.. Sling TV plus basic network channels for sports/news and I'll catch everything else on Hulu..

Not a bad deal..

This is really tempting me to dump Comcast. Xbox Video already has comcast beat. I bought Guardians of the Galaxy long before Comcast had it and just bought Fury for a few dollars less when comparing the two services. It seems like a win combo.

With U-verse, I have over 250 channels 2 HD receivers and 45mb Internet for 90 bucks. Not really sure this type of service is good for me.

5 dollars for an additional channel, or is it bundled 2+ channels for 5 dollars?

Seems I'd personally be better off subbing to PS NOW instead.

Not really...channels aren't listed....who knows what will be available.

With this you know you are getting sports with ESPN....which is the only thing I have missed since I cut the cord.

And no pricing either....typical Sony.

Point is they already have a service in the works that is actually releasing really soon. So ya, backfire.

I guess so since TC brought up the PS4....but still can't really compare the two with the little info we have on the Vue. I am getting Sling just for ESPN and TNT for my sports needs. It doesn't seem like Vue will offer ESPN.
