Apparently, Virtous developed the port, and I've been seeing reports that it's not even the main team who did it.
Genuinely a shit move from Sony. I understand outsourcing, but the company needs to be competent.
@lundy86_4: The port's just a quick cashgrab and riding on name alone. The problem won't be known by the masses, sadly. Hope this doesn't actually sell well at full price. Guerrilla Games need to know that they shouldn't do a half-assed job for any games, be it PC or console.

Straight-up. At a management level, you need to call crap, and sadly it wasn't. I can't blame Guerilla, as it likely wasn't their choice... If you're gonna try to break a market and earn more money, then do a decent job lol. Death Stranding was seemingly a brilliant port.
@lundy86_4: TBF to GG, Kojima and his team has always done a wonderful job with their ports, albeit just two. And DS was announced as a multiplat in the first place.
@lundy86_4: Yup, they set their first impresssions for pc gamers up for failure by outsourcing this to some third rate developer who did a bad job with it apparently.
I was genuinly surprised that Guerilla didn't make this. And honestly Kojima and his team did a way better job catering to PC gamers.
If I get any sort of stuttering later tonight, I'm not waiting for a patch. It's insta refund.
I feel people blaming this on PC's as if they can't handle this level of graphical fidelity well to be a little basic in the head. This is obviously a developer issue with poor optimisation. Hopefully will be patched soon.
Managed to pick it up for 5USD from the Indian epic store so at least I don't feel too cheated at this stage.
It's pretty great.
Game plays like it should have to begin with: perfectly! A shame it took, what? Three years? Three years to graduate from the console platform to its true home on the PC, where it can excel.
First off, it's beautiful.
Second, it controls SOOOOOOOOOO much better. Mouse and keyboard? Yes please. I'm actually able to turn up the difficulty higher because I am not encumbered by sluggish controllers, which makes hunting a vastly more enjoyable experience. Right off the bat I was running, entered focus mode, shot off three arrows into watcher eyes within a few seconds, swapped to flaming arrow instantly, then shot the weak spot on a strider and was rewarded with a lovely explosion
*sigh* so lovely.
Third, it runs great! Granted my PC is pretty good, but still...much better than expected.
Like I said: this is the way it was meant to be experienced.
Playing it at Ultra at 1440p. AMD Ryzen 9 3900x 12-core/32 GB memory/RTX 2080
Sidenote: I forgot what a great character Aloy is, just really likable and strong and awesome.
Here is my port report:
So I was actually getting 50-70FPS with a 1080ti.
I was running on a mix of medium-ultra settings and was running the game at 80% of 4K resolution.
The result was pretty brilliant; pristine image quality along with some really good HDR.
But the game just didn't feel smooth. It just felt really bad when moving the camera, with some intolerable screen tearing.
@R4gn4r0k: your drivers updated? That helped me out.
I did get some jittery bits when I first loaded the game but it smoothed out after the intro.

Yup, the intro was jittery at times, and I had some issues at first.
But yeah... I did update my drivers yesterday to the latest ones.
I was actually surprised to see the game run so well on a 1080ti. I got no stutters either. But just moving the camera around with the right stick just feels really bad... like playing a game at 20fps. It feels bad an unresponsive.
It's really weird :(
Almost 900 reviews and only 41% positive disappointing wonder how long it'll take to patch. Guess I should finish death stranding and work on other games in my backlog in the meantime. i'll pick this up when or if it's fixed.

I hope they can patch it. I really want this game to shine on PC, as it's such a great game
@mrbojangles25 mate, I really hope you enjoy it :D
Word to the wise, run the game in full screen, not in borderless mode. I get around 10-15 more frames in full screen vs borderless.
Borderless - FPS = 54
Full Screen - FPS = 71

Which is why it annoys me so much that they use the same controller design generation after generation, while the games focus much more on aiming than those of the PS1 and have more features and menus and quick-items and console gamers keep insisting it's perfect and ain't broke so doesn't need to be fixed. People are discussing if the PS5 controller is ergonomic or attractive. Who cares if it's stuck with all the same problems? Assholes couldn't even put paddles on the back.
@DragonfireXZ95: I find this to be a really common issue with a lot of ports to PC. That, and vsync being on/off causing issues.
Remember Ni no Kuni 2? Pretty sure you would get atrocious frame rates if you ran full windowed borderless, and totally fine fps as soon as you move to full screen. Nier: automata, same or similar issue. A 3rd party modder had to release a mod called "fix nier framerates" or something like that.
It's as tho some of these companies assume every pc user uses a 1080p 60hz screen only that is always in exclusive full screen and nothing else.
I'm running the game in 1440p with R7 2700X/RTX 2070. Its indeed a bad port but not the worst port since Arkham Knight when it got outsource. I will say it looks better when using monitor and I'm using my Elite Controller, I must admit, I prefer using the Elite than my DS4 without the soft triggers getting in my way.
HZD port is proof this game had no intention to ever come to PC and if it did, it would have gotten Death Stranding treatment. The framerates for me are all over the place, between 55fps-62fps and while not a deal-breaker, I still like playing it on PC and not having to deal with motion blur is a nice bonus.
@DragonfireXZ95: wow is that an ultrawide monitor screenshot? I think I have a new goal in life.
Just got a bonus at work, too....
What brand/model you get? Happy with it?
Looks nice.
It got ported to Switch? /jk
You guys are tempting to me to try it for myself, but I need to be more cautious with my gaming purchases this year.
Played for about 3 hours on PC now and really enjoying it. Graphics are great and I am holding stable 60-70fps on a mix of high to ultra settings at 1440p (GTX1080).
Being able to change the FOV from 70 to 90 makes a MASSIVE difference, I don't know how console gamers handle such tight FOV's.
I played on both my Xbox elite controller and M+K and I finally realise why lower FPS feels fine on consoles, because camera movements with an analogue stick are so much slower. The difference in perceived FPS going from a controller to M+K is very noticeable but sadly I can't aim for shit with a controller so M+K it is.
This is why I prefer PC gaming though, I have so much choice to play how I want to.
Played for around an hour, 15 minutes of shader caching. And... The stuttering is gone after I restarted the game. Granted, I'm only plyaying at 1080p, but 80+ fps on average is pretty good at ultra settings.
The 30fps facial animations are weird tho, and feels like there's mouse acceleration.
Beautiful game at max settings and 60+ fps is really just sweet. Definitive version so far for sure.
Seems to be getting mixed reviews so far on Steam hopefully the issues get fixed but shouldn’t have been released in such a mess! Also trying to figure out why PlayStation mobile inc is down as publisher and not Sony!? Just seemed odd to me

Do it! I got myself one a few months back, games seem much more immersive. Id take ultrawide over 4k any day of the week, I cant see myself going back to 16:9.

It would be better if cutscenes were capped at 30fps.
So many weird decisions with this port.
@lundy86_4: @jasonofa36: @R4gn4r0k: @xantufrog 1440p/60fps+ mix of ultra/high settings. Running good so far on my end. Only had a dip in one bandit camp that was noticeable, few minor hitches but it's been very little. I feel it either has been patched since when Digital Foundry got the game or I just don't notice or over exaggerated.
Not sure if I just have an awesome PC hardware or just don't see the issues that others have. This is not the first game I've played day one that ran fine where otherwise people were saying it was bad, so I don't know as of now cause I been enjoying playing this game on PC vs PS4 console, I find it to be running and looking great.
@davillain-: i wish i could try a demo first to see if it's tolerable on my machine.
Purchase on steam and play around an hour. If you can't get it to run at a satisfactory level for yourself, refund it.
That's one of the correct way to do it. I rarely refund my games on Steam, but refunding HZD shouldn't be an issue.
@davillain-: Someone with almost the exact same specs as mine has had better luck so far.
Meanwhile my framerate is really good... But the framepacing is bad. I can't get a fluid looking game. Moving the camera around is hell. Definitely one of the worst ports I've played.

I have a Samsung 34" 3440x1440p with 100 Hz. https://www.amazon.com/Samsung-CJ791-Thunderbolt-Curved-Monitor/dp/B07CS3JB5K/ref=sr_1_5?dchild=1&keywords=samsung+ultrawide&qid=1596912950&sr=8-5
It's getting a bit long in the tooth now, but I still love it. I want to get the new Samsung Odyssey G9, but at 1700 bucks, it's a little out of my reach. Lol. Video card comes first.

I've noticed there might be some mouse acceleration as well. The aiming seems a bit off.
Sidenote: I forgot what a great character Aloy is, just really likable and strong and awesome.
Such a hideous character model
It's running great for me, I have played for 2 hours with no crashes and no stuttering at all, running very smooth. I watched a video of it running on PS4 Pro and that looked to run a little more sluggish then it has for me so far. Maybe I just got lucky with my PC. I am running it only at 1080P high settings on a GTX 1070 though, so maybe that helps?

Hahahaha it really is.
I don't think she is necessarily ugly, I just I always think she looks like she suffers from mild dwarfism. Like her head is just a bit too big for her body.
@pinkribbonscars: TBF, it it the post-apocalypse. They probably don't have time for makeup
No excuse for visually bland characters. Just because it's set in a post apocolypse doesn't mean you have to make the female characters look like potatoes. 2B being a prime example

I think her model is excellent *shrugs*

2B is a ridiculous character though. Over the top and ridiculous is not what Horizon was going for with the humans. Aloy is a strong character and is relatable. She did not need to be over-designed or over-sexualized.
