Hypothetically speaking, if your fav console maker made only an all-digital console next gen, would you buy it?

Maybe. The basic model would need 4 TB storage minimum imo though.

If it's cheaper, sure why not. Internet speeds are decent enough here.

Paying an additional fee to play online multiplayer, however, is something I'd never do.

I would say no, as I learned by downloading Super Mario Galaxy that I lost all data when I sold my first Switch (for financial reasons) and then a time latter bought a second Switch. At the time, there was no cloud saving when I bought my second Switch. With a cartridge or cloud saving, I can save my progress in a game even if I have different Switch consoles.

If Nintendo or any company moves to digital-only, I may as well stop buying future home consoles.

That only happens with Nintendo systems.

Could you use USB3 / external drives to run games/blu rays?

If so what would be the problem?

I would. But it depends what they'd have to offer, really. Like if it was some cheaply made box I'd probably pass. :P lol

No, I have garbage internet. I would switch to PC.

which is already all digital ?

The difference between digital distribution for PC and console is that with PC, you have options, and there are a number of legitimate ways to acquire DRM free software that you can archive locally, so you'll never be stuck in a situation like you have with older consoles where the manufacturer has pulled the plug, and you can no longer download your software.

@dzimm: makes sense.

Didn't no consoles didn't have option to download and play digital games offline.

I'm out of touch with consoles of late.

Honestly it was a requirement for this gen. I changed my HDD in PS4 to a 2TB drive.

Definitely. I've had to delete so many games I wasn't ready to delete to make room. It freakin' sucks.

Not really a ownage. His reasoning is probably the same as mine i.e. if the reason why we prefer consoles (strong physical media support) disappeared one day then we would have no reason to keep supporting consoles when PC does everything else better (outside of AAA exclusives)

So the only reason you play games on consoles is because you can get a disc which you then install on the hard-drive?

Yes. Problem?

This wouldn't be nearly as big of an issue if PSN and XBL had decent download speeds. I have a gigabit connection but the downloads are ridiculously slow.

A gigabit download is typically faster than installing from disc. A 16x BR drive max speed is ~500Mbits, about half the speed of my internet connection.
