Maybe, but it was wii sports that most were interested in, it sold more than zelda in japan where it was sold seperately. Zelda's success in the states and everywhere is due to the fact that there is really nothing else to buy. Apparantly the ratio between wiis sold and zelda sold was greater than that of the n64 and mario 64. The N64 launched with 3 games! Judge that how you will.
I did it with the revolver in the Library...
Its a fair question...Everyone talks about how XBOX sales will blow up with Halo 3 and PS3 will blow up with MGS4, well is it not fair to ask..."Is the wii's early success due to it shipping alongside Zelda?" Think about the games that have shipped since launch...craptastic!Not much, especially if you look at japan, Wii sports is much bigger
I don't see the wii carrying momentum too much further because Nintendo always figures out a way to screw over their fans with poor 3rd party support and delay after delay of first party. 360 will hang on to its lead...

ok fair enough but wii sports certaintly isn't going to carry the console. Its no Zelda...colmusterd28obviously, which is why nintendo need to produce more games that take specific advantage of the wiimote.

You're right it isnt Zelda, its a whole lot more. I have TP on the GC and its fun but its not a game that can be played over and over. You have people over, you play some bowling or tennis, not zelda. You got 20 minutes to spare, you play some baseball or boxing. Something you can play with your mom or dad, definetly not zelda. Some you and a significant other can play together, not zelda. Don't get me wrong I love TP and the whole Zelda franchise but the essence of the Wii is not zelda. That's the whole reason its called Wii and not "Sitting alone in my bedroom playing against computer AI"

No way.
It's obvioulsy Sellda.
I think you meen cellda and this one isnt even cell shadded
Not much. It is on the Gamecube after all.
I've played Rayman more than Zelda. I've played Wii Sports more than both of them combined. And I've played DBZ: BT2 more than all three of them combined.
Yeah, there was no games besides Zelda at launch, alright.
Zelda is what is helping sell Wii to the hardcore market.
But, as others have pointed out, the majority of Wii's success is not due to Zelda. Especially in Japan, where Wii Sports is a bigger hit than Zelda.

No, Cellda is WW, Sellda is TP.
As it sold many Wii's.
right I get the joke............ I know like 4 people who got the Wii for Zelda and they are old school Sheep from way back so the console was already sold to them. Then I know about 12 people who got it 'cos it sounded cool they dont even have Zelda so basicaly what Im saying is unless you can show me some proof of a REALY high Zelda attach rate then "Sellda" is BS.[QUOTE="web966"]Wii sports is the reason for wiis successSolidTy

If you look at japan's sales Wii sports and Wii play are by far the highest selling games for the wii.
And i think Wii sports would probably be the highest seller in the US if it wasnt boxed in
True, but I think Wii Sports has done a lot. And even if Wii Play is bad, I think it'll pull in some more casuals. Also, SSBB is one of the biggest Nintendo titles out there so I think that's gonna definitely get an extra million sales for the Wii.
But yes, Zelda helped a lot. But think about it, all consoles need great launch games to sell well. The 360 had Kameo and PDZ (I didn't like it, but I know a lot of people who did) and the PS3 had Resistance.
Surprisingly little, it just shows that what were once deemed as 'big hitters' are relatively insignificant in the grand scheme of things. People can harp on all they want about Zelda, MGS4 and Mass Effect but these games only appeal to a rather niche audience.CavigliaSo true that is. I don't think most hardcore gamers realize how insignificant they really are.
Wii's price is the primary reason for its success.
Truth-slayer
Not as much as you would think. Most of the people I know are buying it for wii sports and the novelty of it. It has a tremendous appeal to the market in general.sonicareSame here, the only person I know that wants the Wii for Zelda in particular is my younger brother. And there are other good titles, Trauma Center is great!!
