Most expensive game ever made was SWTOR

The initial rumor was 100 mil for development and 100 mil for advertisement. Kevin Levine dismissed that in a tweet however, so we should probably wait and see if there is a more official statement.

Most expensive game ever is Star Wars The Old Republic.

I think around $20-$30 mil. That $200 mil is bs.

"200 million for Infinite? Did someone send some checks to the wrong address?" Tweeted Levine.

Almost 100 to make and about a 100 to advertise.

Because Ken would be privy to the advertising budget.

Because Ken would be privy to the advertising budget.

He's the lead designer on the game and one of the founding members of Irrational Games. I highly doubt the publisher would not make him privy to that sort of information.

Millions. Ken Levine said it was no where near $200 mllion as some site were claiming. http://www.vg247.com/2013/03/22/bioshock-infinite-cost-2k-around-200-million-analysts-say/ Ken Levine http://www.gamespot.com/news/bioshock-infinite-creative-director-denies-claims-game-cost-200-million-to-produce-and-market-6405761

Even if he knew, and had asked, about the advertising budget. How would he know about the costs on 2K's end? Paying all the PR people, the QA testers, translation costs and the like. I find it highly unlikely he would know or even care about that stuff. While $200 million is probably grossly exaggerated, I don't think he could tell us an accurate figure within 1 million dollars of the total cost of the game.

There was rumors claiming that it had a 200m budget. BUT that was debunked when a dev responded on it. He didn't give the amount of budget but he did say no to the no. SO ya most likely 100 Million is right guess judging from other AAA titles

Those bloated figures were debunked by people who worked on the game already

20-30m LOL you really know nothing how much top blockbuster titles cost.

devs price range from 40k up to 100k. Lets just claim everyone makes 50k make it simple which is most likely low for the average income. Team of 150+ Would cost 7.5 Million a year Just on salary.

SO 4 years for bioshock adds up to Just 30 million alone for employe salary.

Now you got to pay

  • benefits
  • insurance that runs estimated 3k Per employes which BTW will increase to estimate 5k When obamacare takes full effect
  • insurance for building
  • ELECTRIC bill that most likely runs wild with 200+ high power computers
  • buying all those computers
  • advertising
  • SOO many bills!

blockbuster titles can easy cost up to 70-100M

lol But you do? Post a link where a developer confirms that their blockbuster game  cost more than $100 mil to produce. Maybe you'll find one or two.

At $100-$200 mil budget we're talking about blockbuster movies budgets.

I doubt it cost that much to make, or to advertise. The figures were originally taken from a NY Times article and the article only quotes something they heard from unnamed analysts, they could have been talking about Wedbush Morgan's Pachter for all we knew.

lol Why no links? Because you can't.

"blockbuster titles can easy cost up to 70-100M" Could you at least name them? lol I'm sure there are plenty as you've said.

from GTA 4 wiki page:

"Grand Theft Auto IV took over 1000 people and more than three and a half years to complete, with a total cost estimated at approximately $100 million, making it one of the most expensive games ever developed (as of 2012 only Star Wars: The Old Republic has been reported to have a higher development cost than that of Grand Theft Auto IV)
