considering next gen is a year or two off, how much are you really willing to spend on a new console?

considering how some of us bought the original PS4 and Xbone and then went on to purchase a Pro or XboneX, would you consider $500-$600 too much or for the right specs would it be worth it?

i know herms will say just build a "pc" but for those who already have that or cant afford it consoles are the best option for more games.

Price of a console is no concern for me, (depends who you ask) it's all about exclusive games the console has to offer for me. If there's an exclusive game that catches my fancy, I'll buy the console just to play it. Scalebound is a good example, let's say if Scalebound was exclusive to Xbox One X, guess I'll spend $500 just o play it.

That's just how I am and how I look at it from a point of view when price isn't on the agenda.

$400 and not a penny more.

Any more than that and I'd rather upgrade my PC.

It really depends on the specs and what it has to offer but I would be comfortable with $500-600. I am one of those you mentioned who has had all the newest systems (just got a switch over the holidays too!). I sold and replaced my PS4 with a Pro and replaced my XO with the XOX when it came out. I typically upgrade my GPU's every 2-2 1/2 years so it's not so far fetched for me, though this is something new in the console arena. I'm rocking a 1080GTX currently, which I paid the $700 price tag during the launch.

I will say that I'll be watching out for this change in cycle for consoles and if this trend will be the norm. I would prefer this not to be the norm but times are changing.

Well, I spent 500 for the PS3, so that. But if PS3 didn't come with something I knew I'd be using all the time (BD player) I wouldn't have spent that much.

Honestly, as long as I think I'd use it and worth it (and my wife would let me), probably around 500 bucks.

It doesn't matter as long as there's a game I want to play. However a game's performance does factor in to whether or not I want to play it. If it runs like shit and is only available on one platform I'm not going to want to play it. I'd happily pay more if that's what it takes.

The whole point of consoles though is mass-marketed and mass-produced so you can pull as much cost out as possible. That why console are always mediocre. An expensive console just doesn't make the numbers work. $700-800 is typically the performance-per-dollar sweet spot for a PC.

Really... I don't want to buy consoles at all. In a perfect world everything would be multi-platform and consumer friendly :P

Probably $500 plus tax at the most. That's how much I paid for my base PS4 and my Pro.

I spent $500 (~$854 in 2018) on a 3DO during a sale. I was still single back then though. Now with the wife controlling the purse strings? Probably $500.....and a lot of begging. ;)

I gave the full 399€ for the PS4 but from now on 299/349€ will be my limit. Consoles at launch are rarely (if ever) worth it anyway

I'm willing to spend $250 max on just the home console or $300 bundled with a game.

The max I'm willing to spend on a handheld is $175 for XL and $130 for the regular size.

I paid something like $659.99 for my Launch PS3.

Never regretted it once. Meanwhile last gen, I regretted buying the Wii for $300 and regretted buying 4 xbox360’s because they kept on RRODing.

I don't want to waste any money on consoles. I want all games on PC. I hate having to waste money on redundant consoles just to play exclusives.

$400. Maaaaybe $450, as long as there are some good exclusives involved. It's all about the games. Also, VR implementation. This is why I won't touch the X1X with a ten foot pole.

It depends on what I get, or what I see coming. I don't really have a fixed price point, although if it were $1000, i'd probably scracth my head.

I don't really have a fixed price, but I do need to see what games it has first. Of course if its cheap and has like two decent games then I would probably buy it first over a box that is higher price with only two good games.

I don't know how many times I randomly bought stuff just because though even if I care little for what the product has or does haha.

I usually always get a Playstation on launch, regardless of price. The xbox I wait a year or two until a bundle really strikes my eye (usually a Halo/Forza style bundle)

But now my partner and I live together, her being flat out Xbox, no need to ever buy one again as hers is always there!

You think in a year and half you are going to pay $400 for a system that can beat the X1X over 50% more power. Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaaha

I really don't have a price. But, realistically, it would have to be pretty killer to squeeze more than 5 bills out of me.

would you say the one x if it had the first party support of sony or Ninty would be worth it? or for say 600 bucks the same console with a much stronger CPU? would that be worth it?

Depends on the console. Sony/MS consoles are worthless to me since I'm a PC gamer and have access to 95% of the games on those consoles.

Nintendo consoles are a bit trickier to assess since their hardware, after the Gamecube, has been junk. The Wii was a blatant scam. All Nintendo did there was repackage the Gamecube and attach motion controls, and a current gen price tag. The Wii U wasn't much better, being another last gen console with a current gen price tag. I didn't buy either of them.

The Switch was fine though. $300 for a legitimately powerful tablet is a pretty good deal.

£300 max at this point if I was buying a new console, I'm done dropping larger amounts on that stuff.
