So how many games does it take for you to start considering buying a system/upgrading your PC?

For me it seems to be about 3-5 but I have to really, really want them.

For PS4 it was when i saw Bloodborne, GoW3 remastered and TLOU remastered were incoming (i never owned a PS3)

For PC upgrade it was when I saw Civ VI, Total War: Warhammer 2, and Grim Dawn (this could maybe be considered a toaster game, not sure)

I bought PS4 for the KillzonSF (+multiplayer ?/ inFAMOUS combo. The Order 1886 and Uncharted 4 were announced. I was ready for an improved controller , better graphics , better features , and to get started with PS+ with Resogun.

It can vary pretty widely for me. It depends on how badly I want to play a particular game and or games. It also depends on how much the system costs coupled with how badly I may want to play a game or games. With the exception of maybe the Virtual Boy and the Atari Jaguar I can’t really think of a system that didn’t eventually have at least 5 games that I wanted to play on it. So I guess my range would probably be 1 to 5 games is typically good enough to sell me on a system at some point eventually.

3. So far, the Xbox brand is the only console I own this gen which is sad because I usually buy all the relevant consoles in a generation.

5-10 If they hype me.

3-5 If they are something different and i want to play them.

1 If it's from one of my favorite franchises and it's exclusive.

Going into that PS4 for HZD, Spider-man, and FF7 Remake.

Probably like 20 unique games minimum to justify a "secondary" console.

Which is why I never bought a Wii-U last gen, and not an Xbox One this gen. Been a PS4 only gamer all this gen.

I've never been a huge believer in owning all the hardwares, seems like a waste if I"m not going to be playing a system a substantial amount of time - just having 3 or 4 games isn't enough. However, I didn't mind scooping up Gamecube as a "secondary" system to my PS2 a couple gens back - and I had all the systems last gen (360, Wii, PS3, 3DS Vita) - though I of course staggered the purchases a few years apart. I probably hit at least 20 games even on the least played of those systems.

It could be 1, or it could be 100. I have no idea. If I feel a game is worth it, then i'll spend the loot for the system.

Sometimes it could only be for one game. If it's something I could put a lot of hours into...also beneficial.

That really depends on my Bank account's condition. I have bad habits of overspending money on games I think I'll play if ever I get a chance lol.

Very true and as of matter in fact, that 1 game if I really enjoy, I'll replay it again and that's a problem, because I'll never get a chance to play something else I bought. Looking at you Witcher 3, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate & you as well Doom 2016.

I bought PS4 Pro only for exclusives, so... there's that. Although as @mandzilla wrote, one game can change everything.

If Half-Life 3 gets announced and, dunno, supports only ray tracing, I'd be seriously tempted into purchasing one of those Nvidia's ridiculously overpriced graphics cards.

Takes more than just games.

If the machine can do things I need, I'll buy it. Like how several years ago, a 3DS was worth owning not cause just game but useful in portable mode.

There is no amount of PS5 exclusives that would make me only buy it. They'd need to buy Activision Bliz, Ubisoft, EA and Nintendo for that to happen.

On other hand, I could buy just the PC, but I have a TV, and eventually will want a new box for it, and surely Scarlett will be enough, and as long as I don't listen to anyone tell me awesome the exclusives are, I won't really need a PS5, not cause the games suck, but cause I got access to dozens of others, and not a big deal if never play SIE games.

I used to justify Xbox/GameCube purchases by the 10-20 games they had worth playing.

I was a PS2 guy and that had a 100+ games worth getting.

Then I got older and started working. I can afford all the consoles on day 1.

I simply chose to not buy a Wii u/Switch because it has no games at all. I won’t buy another Nintendo game.

I did buy an Xbone simply for Forza. So 1 game was good enough, but I am not buying the next Xbox. I am done with the brand.

I can and do buy PlayStation on day one because it always has tons of games.

There are always multiplats coming out, so I typically upgrade every other video card gen to the strongest card available.

For a console, I want to see at least 7 or more exclusives that I'm interested in. There are only like 4 exclusives on the PS4 that I want to play, and a couple are even coming to PC, like Detroit, so I never picked up a PS4. Wasn't worth 400 bucks to only play 3 games.

Just one exclusive if it's a console game; and for a pc upgrade, I do one if I come across good deals.

Only takes one.

Example: If Ps5 launches with a Ratchet and Clank then it will be a day one Purchase system for me.

Example 2: If MS gets it together and launches the next X-box with something great like a timed exclusive Minecraft 2 that would be a day 1 Purchase.

Example 3: Nintendo always has a Mario or Zelda at or near day one (cough cough Gamecube) so they almost always get my day one Purchase.

Example 4: I will buy a new computer for any major PC game just to be able to max the hell out of it. (any excuse to get a new rig and I'm on it!)

I'm already in on both new consoles without any games being announced.. however, some of them are pretty much common sense. I guess I prefer the mystery of it. Over time there will be games that I will want and having the consoles already just frees up more time and money to buy more games I can sit on my shelf and collect dust.. lol. No bit seriously, I am ready.

apparently 1. Got the switch just for BOTW, didn't help my PC wouldn't run it more then 15fps at the time. So it was like smelling the food and not being able to taste it. Now it's pretty much my almost 4 year old. She loves the thing, the education games on there are some of the few that keep her entertained, that and pokemon lets go.

There just needs to be strong evidence for extensive support. If I feel the console will be around for 4-6 years with support for that time-frame, then I'm nearly sold.
