Poll How many games do you own because of deals, sales, humble bundle, discounts that you never played more than 5 min (43 votes)

I own about 5 games I've never played 12%
I own about 10 games I've never played 9%
I own about 15 to 20 games I've never played 37%
I own almost 50 games I've never played 7%
I own approximately 50+ to 100 games I've never played 35%

...because you honestly didn't really care about those games, but you bought them anyway because, "It was a great deal"?

I know I own at least 10 games that I've never even booted up because I bought them because the offer was a steal instead of me actually really caring about those titles.

People here always talk about "backlog" and I know this is the result.

How big is your unused backlog?

50+

I also bought a bunch of console games because of fear that they might disappear from retail and I'd have to buy them second hand or had to do a lot of effort to track them down. So I own a bunch of older Nintendo and playstation games I've never even played.

I might need a "more than 100" category. LOL. Hell, i might have a fair number of sealed physical games for various platforms. If I'm counting digital stuff then I'm sure I fly right by 100. Humble Bundle counts for a chunk of that, but also PSN sales (as well as old PS+ games).

That being said, isn't that pretty much the point of the Humble Bundles? I don't think they expect you to play all of them. But I'll sometimes still go back and play old games, so it's not worthless to have them in my gaming library. In fact, I rarely buy new games at all.

Zero.

If I'm spending money on anything I make sure that I'm going to at least finish it. I had to force myself to beat a few purchased games that I thought I would like but didn't. But I beat them nonetheless.

Probably about 15. But It's not that I never really cared about them, as you imply. They are all on my must-play list. I just got suckered to buy them faster than I could finish my existing stuff by the "deal". That's why I've said on here that no new games could come out for, like, a decade and I'd be fine. Because there's already easily a decade worth of cool games I'd genuinely like to play and haven't had time to.

The worse thing is, I buy them, put them on the shelf. And for not caring, forget I even own them or what they even were.

That's why I try to avoid buying cheap shovel ware titles or heavily discounted titles that I only have so-so or no interest in because 9 times out of 10 I'll never even launch to the title screen lol.

I probably have about 30+ games in my backlog but I’ve never purchased a game that I wasn’t interested in simply because it was a good deal. In fact a good number of games in my backlog are games that I purchased at full retail price when they first launched.

Id say over 15 for sure... mostly due to bundles that I really wanted only for a few games in it, but it was just cheaper than buying outright.

But Id also say, about double that are games Ive played and enjoyed that I would normally never buy if I didnt get them in a bundle.

Double edged sword

Well I get a lot of games I don't care about from the humble bundle monthly. That's because I usually stay subscribed for a select few games featured that month and just skip if I'm not interested in anything. I play the ones I'm interested in and don't bother with the rest.

I have about 6 games that I have not got around to playing yet, but it's not because I don't care about them. I intend to eventually play these games.

As far as buying games that I don't really care about because of a sale, I don't do that anymore. I keep a list of the games that I most want to play and if I see a game that is on sale but it is not already on my list, I refuse to buy it no matter how great the deal is because I know that if I did not care enough about this game to add it to my list prior to seeing this deal then it will just be an impulse buy that will either end up as wasted money or take time away from getting to the games on my list that I really want to play the most.

Way to many imo. It's probably around 25. These days I'm much stricter with myself on which games I actually purchase. I plan to play them more or less right away.

I'm in the same boat, I noticed I was buying too many games and not even playing them, now I am much stricter and will only buy a game after I finish some that I already have

I'm really afraid of game streaming, as it will have the same affect; thousands of games at your finger tips where you spend more time looking for a game to play than actually playing games....or you just play the same 2 games

I stop calling my backlog games and start calling it my "Game Collection" is a much better saying it then thinking I got lots of games I still need to play. I still buy games when a sale is in effect, I know I won't play it right away, it's sitting in my game collections.

Also, I do have a bad habits of replaying older games, I'm replaying the games I beat then playing newer games is what's the problem on my end lol.

@davillain-: I feel ya, that is a good way of looking at it. I'd rather collect physical copies though.

There's a lot of interesting research going on about digital media collecting and how younger generations have less physical stuff.....but have moved to digital "stuff" or assets.

True

I'll go back to a game I know I love and do a full play thru before even trying a new game I've purchased but never even launched.

If TLOU 2 launches 6+ months before PS5 however, I'll probably end up breaking that agenda.

Why I like Gamepass, I can play n try out games and not worry about this issue and just move on. Previous gens I would buy games play a couple hours and then move onto something else.

@boxrekt: Most Humble Bundles are like that. It's usually a matter of the bundle being cheap enough to justify that one or two games in the bundle and then the rest are a bonus.

I think one of those bundles for me was getting Stardew Valley and SOMA plus 20+ indie games for about £10. I played the two major games in it for ages but most of the Indies were terrible and I just didn't care.

I finished up all my games on my Playstation in terms of exclusives except Days Gone. Only game I need to go back and finish up and honestly might just hold off playing any more exclusives on my Playstation until Playstation 5 hits. On PC I am pretty strict with myself and tend to play a game from start to finish before moving onto the next; unless it's a different genre or multiplayer only game then I don't mind. I'm fine playing through The Witcher 3 and still mess around with Apex Legends for instance or play through some Dragon Ball Fighterz.

Humble Bundle does make it easy to get a few extra games easily. The same with some Steam sales. Bought a few bundles since I wanted one or two games in the pack.

Zero. I don't see the point in buying a game that I don't plan to finish or play a lot of it. Even games that I don't enjoy as much as I thought I would gets a fair chance.

I don't buy stuff just for the sake of it. When games are on a deal, I buy only those I want to. What might happen is me not liking the game.

Everything I have payed for I have played. But nowadays they give free games left and right. I have like around 30+ such games, some that I have never even installed, in like 6 different launchers.

I stopped buying Humble Bundles years ago for this very reason. I've also stopped jumping at every Steam and GOG sale and buying games just because they were cheap. I quickly realized that all it was doing was giving me a huge backlog of barely/never played games -- all games I'm actually interested in, mind you, but purchased at a far faster rate than they could be reasonably finished. Now with a number of publishers and developers literally giving their games away, I have even less incentive to buy. I can't tell you how many times I've looked through my Steam library and said, "I didn't even know I owned that!"

not actually that many. maybe 5-10 of ~320 games I own on steam and a handful on other platforms.

more an issue for me is buying games when they come out, playing them for 5-10 hours, then putting them on the backburner and never getting back to them. especially open world games. if i'm not invested in the story, I play enough to feel like i've experienced most/all of what the game has to offer and abandon it.

0 if I don't like the game within a couple of hours, I'll return it. I only buy games, if I want to play them. I rarely buy a game on sale unless it's a ridiculous saving cause game sales are always happening somewhere.

I do have lots of OXB and PS2 games I picked from fleamarkets and never played more than five minutes. But none for modern consoles.

Coolyfett plays all games that are purchased and free. If it comes in the house or gets downloaded, it gets played. There are starving children around the world.

Not that many actually ... i'm always tempted to buy lots of games when it comes to Steam sales and even when Blockbuster was a thing they always had so many cheap games ... and while i admit i have bought some games that i almost never touched (Killer 7 for the GC being one of them) ... i'm always careful about what games to get that i know will be playing in the near future.

At the top of my head, this are some of the games that i bought at such a cheap price but i barely got to play them.

  • Killer 7.
  • Beautiful Joe 2 (loved the first one, couldn't get into the second one).
  • Okami (yes, i'm to blame on this one ... just couldn't find the time).
  • Borderlands.
  • Tyranny.
  • The Wonderful 101.
  • Silent Hill Collection.
  • Soma
