How good will the PC port of God of War be?

It should be serviceable.

No clue. In-house engine means it depends on the skill of the porting house.

Probably why it's currently sitting only at number 5 in the Steam bestsellers; everyone's waiting and holding their wallets. I certainly am.

When is it due out? I wonder if any one has review copies yet to test it

I think it will be good.

Horizon was pretty rough at launch but in fairness to Sony they did fix it (even last Dec they still made some more improvements. DLSS and FSR were added and the handling of shader compilation was improved). The game is in a very good state now in my experience and has been in a good state for a while now on the PC.

So hopefully some lessons from that have been taken on board and Sony get a better version out the door day 1 for GOW. They don't want to start building a reputation of releasing games in a crappy state on the PC....it would undermine their efforts on the PC. At the end of the day they are in no rush either.

Somewhat better than Horizon Zero Dawn is my guess.

Horizon is in an acceptable state now (with PC features like FSR and DLSS)à but at launch it was just unplayable.

Plus the PC tests (Digital foundry and other independent tests) will come out tomorrow.

About to be the best looking game on PC.

Not flawless, but still better than the PS version.

If someone can mod the camera to be further back, remove the arrows showing where enemies are, and make the cutscenes skippable, maybe I'll check it out.

Doubtful, Horizon Zero Dawn is not moddable on PC at all and this is running on yet another proprietary engine.

Days Gone on the other hand runs on UE4 and is insanely moddable.

It's Dad of War, I mean, how good can it actually be? :P

Already bought it on Steam so "Good port with good performance and decent options/customizations" is what I'm expecting. Totally loking forward to it myself this coming Friday!

Sony ports are getting better horizon zero down just had dlss 2.0 added into it in December some people are still having problems but it's much better than launch, waiting a year was worth it. hopefully days gone will get a dlss 2.0 update.

I'll say GoW 2018 will be a 4/5 or 5/5 port.

I think serviceable at best. I noticed for system requirements to run the game at low at 720p with 30fps you need a GTX 960. The GTX 960 is way more powerful than the PS4 yet it will be running the game worse than it. This game is definitely not optimized well for PC hardware. But that makes sense since Sony never intended on PC versions until recent years. Hopefully PS5 exclusives ported to PC are better optimized for our hardware.

Well, would you look at that. Reviews have dropped early, which usually shows confidence.

And it's 9s across the board. I've read three of them (PC Gamer, PCGamesN, VGC) and it looks like a good port. Not perfect; no FOV slider, for instance, but well-optimized and with decent array of settings. Sony (or rather, whoever they put in charge of the port) put effort into this.

Looks like I'm gonna be flipping that coin after all...

Just checked out ACG's video. He also said it's a good port, and slapped it with a "Buy."
