Poll How exactly do you assess the 60$ price worthiness of games you purchase? (47 votes)

Content (Substance, story, character, features, support, not-sacrificing-one-thing-for-another) 68%
Presentation (Flash, graphics, UI) 19%
Campaign Length 43%
Replayability (Mulitplayer, Coop, great campaign, achievements, treasures, etc...) 57%
Popularity/Trend/Demand 13%

I'M NOT ASKING HOW YOU DECIDE WHETHER TO BUY A GAME OR NOT; I'M ASKING HOW YOU MEASURE OR DETERMINE WHETHER A GAME IS WORTH PAYING 60$ FOR.

Factors such as fun, review, developer, and such are all far too subjective so I didn't include them.

OMFG!! An actually intelligent thread from a Cow without bashing Microsoft or XBox. There is a GOD.

All of thy above. Really the 3 most important things are Content, Games Length & Replayability (Multiplayer). i usually don't pay $60 on a game that will only last 5-6 hours and not have extra content, multiplayer online and decent replayability.

None of the above.

I just simply know. That's what love is. You can't explain it. You just experience it.

Usually the games that I find most worth the money are those that offer a great deal of content or re-playability. Good gameplay is a must to keep my interest.

Games like Arkham Asylum and Donkey Kong Country Returns both go above and beyond for meaningful content and replay value. It's not hard at all to sink over 50 hours into them. I've probably put over 100 hours into each.

All of the above?

The sad thing is even all of that stuff doesn't warrant a $60 from me even if it kind of should. I just wait for sales on the games I want. The only games I will pay full money for are Nintendo first party, but that's literally because it never drops in price, not because of the reasons above.

None of those choices really. It's a gut feeling I have when I look at the footage or if the game is in a genre that I know I enjoy. If the game isn't selling me with its footage or the concept of the game, I can just wait.

Also big publishers like ubisoft games go down in price really fast so I tend to wait on those. I'm hoping to get assassins creed 4 for ps4 for $39 sometime this year (won't be too long).

The amount of muscles on the characters, be they man or woman. Less muscles, and the lower the chance that I buy it. Clearly, from this, we can determine that I bought 1000 copies of GeoW.

I found that I could adapt pretty well. I'm used to having one hand down my pants.

I can't contribute because I don't buy games for full price anymore. And I don't think you can really put too short a leash on a conversation revolving around "vaule".

There's gotta be long campaign and large amount of content to be worth that price. An example is Just Cause 2. Spent ages playing that masterpiece.

But I don't buy games at full price these days anymore. I don't buy used games, I just wait. I also lost confidence in games due to simplification.

A mixture of length and quality. Length is obviously a big factor, but I understand that a game can be shorter while being better in quality (have a look at GTA V for example, it was shorter than GTA IV but the mission variety was leaps and bounds above GTA IV) and a game can be 30 hours long, but a long campaign is only great when the gameplay is great enough to make you want to play that long (take a look at Mass Effect 2 for example, it had 30+ hours of gameplay, but the gameplay and level design were garbage), lastly, while a length of a game is not the one determining factor, it is still a determining factor, a line has to be drawn when a game is too short for the price tag (have a look at Metal Gear Solid 4 for example, the little gameplay that was there was great, but it only had about 4 hours of gameplay, and the (now closed) multiplayer mode required you to pay real money for new characters and accessories).

I always think of it relative to the cost-to-entertainment-to-length ratio of seeing a movie in theaters, i.e. a two hour long, quality movie, priced at about 10 dollars. So at 60 dollars, I should be able to enjoy the game at a similar level to enjoying a movie worth seeing in in a theater, for 6 times the amount of time.

Fun factor (which in most cases is attributed to solid gameplay) and how long the game stays in my rotation of games that I play regularly.

I rent most games I play. If it's a big title with a reputation of being good like MGS series, Souls series, Uncharted series etc then I buy it. I'm more likely to buy a game that is known to be good & is a PS exclusive & it's a genre I like.

I rarely buy a game for $60 anymore but when I do they have to be either a long RPG like game or have multiplayer or something that will make me keep playing it after I beat the campaign.

Heh, I very rarely pay $60 for a game. Last games I paid full price for was Mass Effect 3 ($60) and I think Battlefield 3 was $50 (but I bought I pre-ordered it). But if I do pay full boat for a game, I take into account storyline, production values, replay value, gameplay, and non-repetitive content length. Basically everything.

What I do, 99% of the time is wait for Game of the Year editions or "Ultimate" editions of games that include all DLC and a $40 price tag (or less). Which is usually about a year wait. I don't mind though, I have a very big back log of Steam games, PSP games, DS games and even some PS2 games that I never opened yet (LOL)

For me to buy the game there has to be online player vs player gameplay

For most games I wait for a price drop, but there are two exceptions:

1. If the game has a great online multiplayer component that I want to experience while it is still hot.

2. If the game is made by Nintendo since they always take many years before they drop the price of their games.

I consider few games worth 60 dollars not only that they might end up buggy and unplayable *cough BF4* so I rarely buy games ever at that price.

Other factors come to consideration:

  2. Lengthy SP Campaign

Pretty cool responses and successful poll. : )

For me it's more substance, replayability, and a tiny bit of presentation. I buy a game I want to play and don't really assess the price/value.
