Hogwart Legacy - more like Hogwart DoNothing?

Hello friends,

Played hogwart legacy for like 2 3 hours. the environment is beautiful. like its harry potter simulator. can explore entire hogwart etc but you are definitely doing nothing in this game at all.

start, slow walking cinematic, watch cutscene, talk talk, watch cutscene, talk talk. theres some combat sequence with wands but its click click and not very interesting.

So why all praise? its just another movie game open world RPG but just set in Harry potter universe?

you are absolutely doing nothing at all.

I did. complete some quest. even defeat troll.

the combat is too easy. just click so shoot wand, use some spells, dodge. and combat is not very interesting. other than you are doing NOTHING at all in game. another boring third person movie game that 99% of games today are.

you can judge game based on 2 3 4 hours. same as GOW 2018.

this is just another mainstream movie games rated 9s all over critics.

and like always good game that more rely on gameplay get overlooked.

Lmao no you can’t. The beginning is just to introduce you to the world, the gameplay mechanics, the story etc. Sounds like you just have a very short attention span 🤣

begining only need to be 15 minutes max to introduce world. not 4 5 hours long.

look at Half life begining. look at Doom begining.

Half life begining start and you have full control no hand holding, get crowbar then gun and then you are on your own.

Doom begin with in 3 second you have pistol and shoot.

hogwart start and for 3 hours you are doing nothing. and yes i know theres little combat and game is just talk talk talk cutscene and all.

All sidequests are fetch quests. It's a game that is couple decades behind in game design.

You have to push the buttons on your controller/keyboard for the caracter to move and perform various actions.

If you don't like a game in the first few hours, it's safe to say you won't like it for the next 20 or whatever. This applies to all things; books, movies, shows, etc.

You shouldn't waste your time on something you won't enjoy, or is a bad product. That's a sunk cost fallacy "oh maybe if I just play it more I will enjoy it!" nah don't bother.

There are some exceptions of course, and it's always nice to do research and ask questions like "is this movie a slow burn" or "does this game get better by the 10-hour mark", but for the most part I don't think people should waste their time, nor be criticized for giving up after a few hours on something they don't enjoy.

Better off trying to refund the game.

If it takes you that quick to judge a game, then that means you didn’t do your research prior to purchase and that’s on you, not the game. There a plenty of preview videos, demos, reviews, social media etc to gauge if you’re going to like the game.

Haven't played it but it appears to be an average-to-good open world RPG that got mainstream attention because of the politics and controversy surrounding it on both sides. If not for all of that, I don't think it would have gotten the sales or attention that it did.

What you just stated is too complex for some people and will go right over their heads. They will default to deflecting.

Seems pretty common for games to have shit intros for story purposes these days. (Actually ... it's been this way for awhile)

If you work and have other obligations, an evening or two is not really "quick". I would consider that an honest effort to enjoy a game, and if it's not enjoyable, then don't waste your time.

If you have nothing going on and can afford to game a few hours a day, then by all means take 10 hours to judge a game. Some of us are a little busy at times though and would rather do something we enjoy.

I think you have to play more of the game before forming a full opinion.

Having said that from what I've seen of the daughter playing its not the most challenging game out there.

But I haven't played it so could be wrong.

I agree it is definitely a movie game, but I do enjoy it, I just think they bogged it down with too many mindless fetch quests and time wasting events rather than the fun gameplay.

@ghosts4ever: Better question is, are you a Harry Potter fan? If not, chances you won't like this kind of game as this is the only good AAA HP game we'll ever gonna get. Not knocking you down on your 2-3 hours of playtime but I wouldn't write the game off just yet. Keep playing till you get to the really good stuff and it gets really good. I had the same problem with Forspoken at the beginning was very slow but it got better as more I play it. Every beginning of a game is gonna have a slow start.

I played more. and yes you are barely doing anything and when in combat. its really bad. I learn some spell. its some shitty QTE segment wierd kind of.

theres poorly done stealth segment with clock (invisible) enable.

all in all. its movie game.

Depending on the game, sure. Saying that with a broad stroke, no.

Its a movie game. you are not playing most of time. talking talking, watching cutscene, go there then watch cutscene. its hand holding most of time.

Believe what you wanna believe my dear friendly Ghost, but that's not the definition of a movie game.

(And I don't use the term anyway. "Cinematic Driven Game" is the word you are looking for. I keep forgetting I'm on SW, forget I said anything)

The kerfuffle around the game as more interesting than the game itself.

Prior was wondering if it would get bad faith reviews or attempts to undermine it. See if le gamers would simply buy the game, on the premise that their political enemy was against it.

Franchise itself, never understood the appeal.

Some people prefer actual exciting gameplay. Not 10 minutes cutscenses after every 5 minutes.
