Nier's success has to this point given Platinum a new fanbase, a growing staff, a brilliant success story, an increase in qualified job applicants, and a great favour. Normally, I can't help but do everything by myself... it's a pitiful story, but to say that Yoko-san saved Platinum would not be an overstatement. I cannot thank him enough.

Damn! It seems that we were close to losing PG forever, thx Nier!

@Chutebox: I would be lying if I didn't admit to leaping to a conclusion, but I think this genuinely gives us the hint that Platinum just didn't have the resources to make Scalebound. They were obviously in trouble, they were in a better position when they made the deal with MS years ago. Also Hideki Kamiya is a well known douche. If MS wronged them in any way, Well hell even if MS was in the right, he would have moaned and bitched. As you can tell he's not blamed MS at all for anything. Excluding years ago when he bitched at MS for making them show Scalebound too early, but as I said, that's trivial and Kamiya being the douche he is.

@primorandomguy: Must be why they kept asking Microsoft for more money to develop Scalebound. They were sinking.

@iandizion713: Yeah, which is sad because it not only cost both companies a lot of money, wasted money I should add, but Platinum is an amazing developer. I hate to see a company like that struggle, but Ubisoft and Capcom make millions, with much worse offerings.

Not really. I don't recall Platinum thriving off controversy Rockstar does, which in and of itself, is similar to how Parker/Stone and Seth MacFarlane do it.

Isn't ANY company "loved by fans"? That's a broad description as to how Rockstar and Platinum compare.

It was weird to compare Platinum to Rockstar in the first place, and even after your elaboration I still disagree.

If we're going by the average consumer-base for both Platinum and Rockstar, I'd say Platinum has a far higher satisfaction rate than Rockstar has ever had. Sure, Rockstar might get much larger sales, but I also see hefting amounts of people coming out saying how much they thought their games sucked. I see that very less frequently when people play Platinum.

Good on them. NieR: Automata is certainly, shall we say, "an experience." I suppose a bit of fanservice and a lot of weirdness can go a long way these days.

Sad to hear Platinum was in such a bad situation. Scalebound's cancelation hit them hard. MS has been making the move to a "game as a service" model and I'm guessing that's why they pulled the plug on Scalebound.

Kinda funny how Platinum discussion on this board used to just be a small group of peeps who like their games, but now it's always about a fanboy pissing contest.

I bet this is what it's like when Champ and Freedomfreak read these threads.

Between the games that flopped on Wii-U, and Scalebound, it's not that surprising they were in trouble. Even their quality/hit games generally don't sell that much. This company made bizarre business decisions going at least back to the time they were making Bayonetta an Xbox 360 exclusive.

Platinum games have made bad decisions after bad decisions despite their games quality. Ever since they were formed they opted to butcher the PS3 version of Bayonetta by not giving it attention (the version that actually ended up selling the best while the better 360 version was a sales flop knowing damn well that the xbox 360 market was mostly dudebro who didnt gave two sh*ts about these types of japanese games), then they release a 5h TPS SP only game without any MP component, then some dubious quality low profile games (Anarchy Reigns, TMNT, Legend of Korra, Transformers, etc), and to top it all, go full WiiU exclusive with Wonderful 101 and Bayonetta 2... its a miracle they are still alive as much as I love their games... PG is composed of great developers but aweful management, it seems

I'm getting a good impression you didn't understand it when I suggested the average for the consumer-base satisfaction; furthermore, you must have not understood it when I said "Rockstar might get much larger sales" either.

And you must not have understood when I said PG games catter to a niche group thus those who play PG games know what to expect when they're buying their games i.e. they buy them cause they lik'em and thats why you dont see as many talking bad about their games. R* games, on the other hand, are more comercial and sell more based on brand and publicity than because of a loyal fanbase like what happens with the PG crowd

It strikes me you're just saying what I said in the first place, but in your own words.

So because Platinum has a solid niche fan base that are most likely to be satisfied than dissatisfied? Got it.

So Rockstar is more commercial and pulls more publicity stunts to incite higher sales - thus - they're left more likely criticized than Platinum? Got'cha.

Would love to see sequels for Vanquish or MG Rising. Or make a licensed game that they actually put in an appropriate amount of time and effort into. Transformers was pretty cool, but seemed like a total rush job.

I never cared much for plat games as most of their games to me were eh to me. Though I can tell their fans were starting to get annoyed with alot of their recent stuff and then theres the canceled dragon game. So I can see how he feels this way.
