HDR + Atmos is more quantifiable than FPS and Higher Settings

I don’t see how anyone can deny this.

FPS is only noticeable when the frame rates are all over the place, if the frames are locked at 28-30 FPS nobody will notice the lower FPS.

Ultra Settings vs Very High Settings is very hard to notice unless professionals like Digital Foundry are pausing/slowing videos and telling you exactly what to look for.

Where as 9 speaker Surround Sound and HDR is immediately perceived by the user vs SDR and Stereo Sound.

It really doesn’t get any better than an Xbox One X Game with HDR and Atmos, at least not from a smack you in your face check this out sort of way.

@GioVela2010: Witcher 3 looks like crap on consoles no matter how you slice it. The console settings equivelant are so low it isn't even funny. Crowd density and draw distance are lower than pcs lowest setting. HDR Is a nice addition to the xb1 version, but it doesn't make it superior.

By the way, I own the Witcher 3 on xb1, ps4, and steam. I've put about 50hrs in on xb1, 20hrs on ps4, and about 150hrs on pc.

Your "argument" or topic if you will implies that because IT CAN means that we have... If we do that with PC users we can just call it a day because we are all rocking KEF X300A with 35" 3440x1440 200Hz HDR monitors with SLI Titan Z's.

Also your whole FPS thing?... Nah. Its noticeable.

HDR is the ONLY advantage consoles have, you don't have resolution/settings/framerate hell the X1X doesn't even have exclusives.

I'm not sure 'quantifiable' is the right word here.

Out of HDR, Atmos, Ultra Settings, and Frame Rates, the only quantifiable item here is frame rate. It is quantified as a number of frames. The other three are subjective.

You'll have to come up with another way to describe how HDR + Atmos is a better choice.

Personally I think anything below 60 fps is unacceptable for most genres. I have a lot of experience with frame rates. It's not about what you see - it's about control responsiveness. 30 fps in an action game is basically a non-starter, no matter how bright the colors or immersive the sound.

What....~30 to 60> is objectively quantifiable. You might want to look up an ENGLISH dictionary. Not sure what language you are using. It's a night and day difference as well.

Visually, 30 to 60 fps is a much bigger difference than HDR and ATMOS. As are higher settings and resolution.

PC, the best gfx, best online, best library, best performance. #1st place winner at SW for 4 gens in a row.

And console gamers are all running HDR 4K displays with $1K Atmos speaker setups?...

Keep trying.

The high majorty of console gamers are running PS4/X1 on 720p TV's using the speakers that are built in.

Cutting edge tech for TV's and speakers is far less common than a PC gamer running a game at 60FPS.

I dont even see how this is a thread worthy topic. Steam surveys are voluntary as well, I have never done one. Get a clue. Dont need a voluntary xbox/ps4 thread, cause everyone has the same shit.

Point is that you have never really played anything competitive in your live and you think you are a better player than most in your PvE environment.

The eyes open and you see.......oh wait, theres more out there than the AI letting you win. Especially in todays pathetic world of lackluster ai development.

Not the point of this thread?...

The point of this thread is you downplaying things the consoles lack which is freedom such as settings and framerate and your argument is that most PC gamer's don't play ultra settings nor at high framerates because they don't all have high end GPU's in other threads...

... Now this thread your talking about HDR TV's and Atmos speakers?....

I respond with the arguement YOU and many others use and now its not eligible?...

I wish we're even at the standard of "true" 30 FPS; no dips.

Better display and SRS is something very obvious but I do think the impact of high FPS, better display or SRS depends on the individual.

For most, I think SRS and better display will be more obvious than 30 to 60 fps.

Going from high to very high with PC settings are a joke relative to the above IMO.

Atmos equipment is way too expensive for me. My setup is basically a 5.1 set, 3 speakers in the soundbar, a separate sub and two back speakers. Been the first time I experience surround sound at home and I love it, my PC, PRO and X support it, so YAY! The only machine I haven't tried to hook up to it is my Switch.

How do you hook up the consoles to a 5.1 set ? Is it with a seperate cable ?

It isn't though. I have seen and heard much better setups than yours. For starters...

- You sit way too far from your TV for a proper home theater experience. You need a much bigger TV for that distance or need to sit closer.

- You have small bookshelf speakers instead of tower speakers. This leaves your mid bass lacking and the mix of the mid bass and sub bass less than ideal.

- You lack speakers in general.

- You only have a single subwoofer which makes the bass less balanced and localized at the single subwoofer.

- Your rear speakers are mounted too high and not at a similar height to your front speakers. You also have no distance between your rears and your seating position.

- Your room acoustics are not optimized for a proper home theater.

- Last and certainly not least... your PC is old and you are relying on a shit console.

Now I am not saying that my setup is better than yours (aside from my PC and seating position), but I also don't claim my setup is amazing. I have been in some truly amazing custom home theater rooms and our setups are a joke compared to those.

You lost me at Witcher 3 - a game which is terrible to play under 60fps and probably the main reason the combat gets a bad rep. Ass: Origins is another. I tried it on PS4 and it was a horrible downgrade I couldn't adjust to. I'd rather play at 720, 60fps.

It really doesn’t get any better than an Xbox One X Game with HDR and Atmos, at least not from a smack you in your face check this out sort of way.

lol nope.

Nobody wants to deal with 9 boxes lamo.

I got a 4k HDR screen, and frankly while the picture is better it has zero impact on gameplay. It's nice if it doesn't impact performance and it doesn't impact anything else.

30 fps vs 144fps = a massive massive difference, gsync is a massive difference, having options to select out of library of pretty much every single game besides ps4 exclusives and switch exclusives, is a massive difference.

If you would play witcher 3 at 100+ fps with gsync on a capable screen, you will not be able to go back with mods.

Being able to run mods, have loads of exclusives by itself is a massive difference.

Ur hdr in those 2 games it support with atmos sound is something honestly nobody cares about. And if you do, you wouldn't even be sitting on a xbox to start with. ( well maybe for those 2 titles with hdr support )

Sorry but xbox brand i pretty much doa atm, xbox one x hasn't much reason to exist unless you just want to play your xbox exclusives on the best possible way.

30 fps is god awful

@GioVela2010: I am talking about the xb1x version aswell. They improved texture filtering, gave it a resolution bump, and added HDR. All the other settings have not been tweaked. And the game still struggles to keep 30fps in Novigrad and crookback bog.

How do you hook up the consoles to a 5.1 set ? Is it with a seperate cable ?

Probably via optical cable (from TV) to the receiver. At least, that's how my nephew has his PS4 setup done. He told me it took a while to sort out and make it work.

Yeah it seems like you need seperate cables coming from each console. Not an ideal solution.
