Happy Fourth Birthday PlayStation 4 !!!!

PS4 is 4 years old today and it's been a GREAT 4 years for Sony.

why does it feel its been so much longer

And this coming February (on the 20th) it will be 5 years since PS4 was announced at PlayStation Meeting.

I have no doubt PS4 has another 6 years of life left in it, even though PS5 will launch long before another 6 years is up. I'm betting PS5 comes out in 3 years (November 2020) and will be a generational leap beyond PS4, but also have full backwards compatibility.

This gen is aging way faster then it was in last-gen.

An amazing 4 years. One of the best consoles I've ever owned.

Great system. The generational leap felt smaller, but in terms of overall user experience really my ps4 makes my ps3 feel like a total pos.

Yeah the generational leap from PS3 to PS4 was 8-10x which was smaller than the leap from PS2 to PS3.

Going from PS2 to PS3 was a 35x leap in CPU performance (6.2 GFlops Emotion Engine to 218 GFlops Cell Processor) and an estimated 50x leap in graphics rendering (Sony's in-house Graphics Synthesizer chip in PS2 which was just a fancy rasterizer that depended entirely on the EE for polygon transform & lighting, to Nvidia's RSX for PS3, a full blown GPU.

Not to mention going from PS2 to PS3 meant going from single CPU programming and simple texture mapped graphics (with alot of polygons compared to Dreamcast and PCs of the time) in standard definition, to much more complex games programmed for multi-core processor, with complex shaders and in high definition.

PS3 to PS4 was more of the same. Prettier graphics, larger worlds, and often 1080p or 900p compared to mostly 720p and under with PS3. Sure, even the PS3 had a native 1080p 60fps launch game in 2006, Ridge Racer 7, but that was an exception not the rule.

Can't wait to see what PS5 brings to the table in 3 years.

Hell yeah, 4 years and I have only purchased 4 of those “mouthwatering exclusives” , one of which is a remaster...

I feel like the PS3 still had a better library, then again the PS3 lasted over 8 years.

I still think the PS4 hangs around another 2-4 years, so there will be more games to come.

We are all humbled by SONY for saving gaming from the evil of MS's attempt to change the industry on their own for nothing but greed with DRM.

These have been the most boring 4 years in gaming. I honestly can't think of one great game that I've played this generation that couldn't have been played on ps3.

The first two years didn't have a lot of exclusives. It had the best multiplats. Oh

With it's very slow start and oceans of remasters/ports, it actually only feels like the PS4 got properly going a couple years ago. It's fantastic now though, has everything you could want from a console (except for all the "PC-lite" stuff like installs, patching, all that crap ugh). The game library is awesome and constantly growing with every multiplat, PC ports, old classics remastered and some top tier exclusives too.

I'm very happy they reacted to the messy PS3 in such an efficient way!

PS4 won this gen, rest of competition is irrelevant.

Chill console. Great variety of games, but I'm spending more time with my halogearsforzabox 1 these days.

It's a great system. Greatness delivered. I'm hoping that the next PlayStation takes a page from Microsoft's current play book and has full PS4 backwards compatibility.

Really depends on how you really view it, I think this gen has been a hit or a miss to few gamers around the world. To me, it's okay, just nothing to brag about it but I played so many exclsuive games from the big 3 to say they were okay. Keeping my expectations to a degree has paid off so far :)

The PS4 is PS3's mid gen upgrade. Horizon's gameplay I like but I'm sure it could be done on PS3. MGS5's gameplay I really liked but it's a PS3 game. I once said PS3 wasnt better than PS2 but mentioned PS4 could be worse than PS3.

@stereointegrity: Because PS4/Xbone are basically just 1080P versions of the PS3/360. I feel the same way sometimes.

But then I remember games like Uncharted 4 exist and that could not have been done last gen.

I beg to differ on this one. Last generation was the most annoying, boring crap ever and aged so fast that all games looked and felt the same ... for years. At least this gen has upgrades.

Maybe feels that way because the huge leap in graphics wasnt that big like it was from PS2 to PS3 etc but man, last generation .. 8 years of same craps.

How can people say the gap isn't as big?

Maybe go and play some games like Horizon:ZD and then say the gap isn't huge.

The PS4 is becoming one of my all time favorite consoles. I think I would put it just behind the PS2 right now.
