Happy 59th Birthday, Mr Miyamoto!

The creator and producer of Mario, The Legend of Zelda, Donkey Kong, Star Fox and so many other games, it could be argued that Miyamoto is one of the fathers of modern gaming.

Shigeru Miyamoto has been a central figure at Nintendo since the very early days, even helping to design their first ever coin operated arcade machine in 1979. The landscape of modern videogaming would look significantly less familiar – and probably less colourful – if not for Miyamoto.

With The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword and Super Mario 3D Land currently very much present on the release schedule, Miyamoto's massive influence looks as strong now as it ever was.

Even those of us who aren't Nintendo fans should look to the Mario 64 influence in Ratchet & Clank, Spyro and Banjo Kazooie; the Mario Kart influence in Modnation Racers and even Blur; the Zelda influence in Skyrim, Fable and Darksiders. Miyamoto's legacy is a huge net cast over modern game design that we all, as modern gamers, benefit from.

Here's hoping to many more strong years in the gaming industry for Miyamoto.

because the reasons he listed for the game scoring poorly are all the polar opposite of other glowing reviews, and at the moment a general consensus of the game is my best assessor of the game's quality. if he gave it a 7.5 for valid, new reasons that i haven't heard before (if they existed), i'd take heed, but all of his control complaints are so radical from what other people are saying that i won't take the review seriously. i have no way of knowing how the controls hold up until i get the game, of course, but previews immediately after the game was revealed, leading up to launch, and reviews of the gameplay make them seem to be very accurate. why should i pay attention to the one outlier in the group and not the majority when i have nothing else to go on?
