Poll Halo Vs. Gran Turismo (81 votes)

Halo 70%
Gran Turisimo 30%

This will be interesting, the best selling franchises of the 2 platform holders are shown above. These franchisees importance to their brand (Microsoft, Sony) cannot be denied, but when placed side by side? Who will emerge VICTORIOUS?!

Let thy war begineth!

A game of speed and agility, vs. a game of uh... speed and agility? One with a gun and one with a steering wheel!

lol what? Halo basically formed the console shooters of today and revolutionized the industry twice. What has Gran Turismo done besides being a great racing game during the PS1/PS2 era? Hell, its already been destroyed by Forza. Sony has tried numerous times to destroy Halo and they keep failing.

And Halo lost to COD and now Destiny , funny how a 3rd party beats a flagship , huh?

lol Halo hasn't lost anything to Destiny. Destiny has been a fucking train wreck and it wasn't even broken like MCC. Its a sad day when Bungie's tribute band makes better games than they do. Also, a multiplat selling more than a game on one console isn't all that impressive. CoD is big but since CoD 4 they're way below Halo's standards.

My point is , that Halo gat overshadowed by a non exclusive , while GT by an exclusive on another console.

Don't take it as an attack on MS or Halo , i just like racing games.

lol what? Halo was just a shooter that rode the popularity wave of shooters. Not a first for consoles, not first online. Yeah, it was a great series, but not revolutionary. Gran Turismo was the first to do sim racing right on consoles and it's still unmatched no matter how many millions MS throws at the Forza franchise.

Well the usage of the term legacy will need clarifying. Peter Jackson and Steven Spielberg didn't make public that they love GT and would like to do a 3 film series on GT. GT hasn't crossed over into other forms of media. In 50 years that's an impressive legacy to see that a video game transcended its own confines.

Has GT made any money as a comic, novel, film, anime? Are any great artists in other media lining up to work on something GT related?

Is Justin Bieber better than Pearl Jam or Metallica because he sold more albums?

So where are these 3 Halo movies? So what you're saying is GT can't be great since it hasn't been horribly milked? (And by milked, I'm referring to action figures, cereals, sleeping bags and other junk sold to simply take advantage of a game's popularity.) Marketing and milking is your idea of legacy?

Where is neither option ?

GT was one of the best but last generation ruined it big time

Halo imho is one of the most overated franchises i ever played. Maybe because im PC gamer since mid/late 90s and i cant judge consoles FPS that good , they all seem sucky to me

Whoa whao fella. When did I say GT wasn't great?

Yes part of a big legacy is the ability to transcend. Muhammed Ali has the biggest legacy of any heavyweight champion because he was known to people who didn't even care for boxing due to his religious convictions and political stances. Transcending the sport of boxing. You call it milking to transcend just being a game but the fact is, if novels, comics, anime or figures didn't sell they wouldn't be made. Part of the legacy is exactly this. The 3 movies weren't made, but two major film makers, both Oscar winners wanted to do so. Who would want to with GT? Fast Furious hacks LOL

Except it was being done just as well in other games even before Halo. Halo just happened to be the one that got the most attention, thanks to MS promotion. And, yeah, GT still outshines Forza in the most important area, the driving. It's a series created by MS to take down GT, and though they add a bunch of garnish, the meat is still a second rate imitation.

Is Star Wars considered milked? Because Halo is to video games what Star Wars is to movies, it's the biggest science fiction franchise in video games and there's a demand for the books, comics, graphic novels, because people actually give 2 shits about Halo as more than a game, in fact there are tons of people who are into Halo without actually being fans of the game, they just enjoy Halo as a universe. Gran Turismo doesn't come anywhere close to that level of recognition.

Bold is pure personal preference, not worth arguing.

What other console FPS was doing online multiplayer competitive and co op with matchmaking as well as Halo 2 on Live? Again, I never said Halo was first, but chalking up its effect on the explosion of accessibility and popularity on consoles to just MS marketing is bitter tears. And you believe the game you are going to name was responsible for the expansion of MP FPS taking off on consoles?

Well, yes, Star Wars is an incredibly milked IP. Of course there's a demand, with any popular creative endeavor, the fans will buy extra junk inspired by that IP, that's why collectors editions sell. But do you have any evidence to this huge Halo following that never played the game?

Like Star Wars, there's a demand for it, it's a much bigger series than Gran Turismo will ever be, it's left a bigger impact and it's transcended video games more so than any other series I could think of.

https://forums.spacebattles.com/threads/the-halo-thread-wort.311676/

The Halo thread on this site is the largest thread in the video game section with 1200+ pages, people here discussing the lore, the EU, there are several people here are avid fans of the Halo EU without being hardcore fans of the game, most of them have most likely played through the stories in the games but aren't hardcore Halo players, especially Halo MP players,

I'm more keen on an FPS over racing most of the time so probably Halo, although both are great in their respective genres

This is apples and oranges... You cant compare the two! Two different genres.

But which one I'd rather play? Halo. Easily.

I think Uncharted is a better flagship than Grand Turismo:P

Halo, but to echo others- what?

This is apples and oranges... You cant compare the two! Two different genres.

But which one I'd rather play? Halo. Easily.

Where is neither option ?

GT was one of the best but last generation ruined it big time

Halo imho is one of the most overated franchises i ever played. Maybe because im PC gamer since mid/late 90s and i cant judge consoles FPS that good , they all seem sucky to me

This thread is pitting PlayStation and Microsofts biggest flagship franchise, the reason why they are big (or the top reason) against each other. It's not really a genre comparison as it is who has the better flag to sail the pirate ship.

Gran Turismo.

Bigger legacy then Halo.

By the numbers Halo is a dramatically more successful franchise than Call of Duty.

Halo

  • Launch year 2001
  • 'Exclusive' franchise
  • Available on 7 platforms
  • 11 games in total
  • Average advertisement & marketing
  • 65+ million sales

Call of Duty

  • Launch year 2003
  • Multi-platform franchise
  • Available on 18 platforms
  • 14 games in total
  • Most advertised & marketed game franchise in history
  • 175+ million sales

Has ANY halo ever sold 14 million copies? NOPE!

Gran Turismo wins.

The Halo franchise as a whole is much bigger than the GT one. Halo expands beyond gaming. Just saying.

Is Star Wars considered milked? Because Halo is to video games what Star Wars is to movies, it's the biggest science fiction franchise in video games and there's a demand for the books, comics, graphic novels, because people actually give 2 shits about Halo as more than a game, in fact there are tons of people who are into Halo without actually being fans of the game, they just enjoy Halo as a universe. Gran Turismo doesn't come anywhere close to that level of recognition.

I agree with this 100%, because I LOVE Halo OUTSIDE gaming(books, universe, comics, TV shows, movies, etc) while I dont really care much about the games anymore. According to the bolded I'm one of those people...

But yeah Halo is kinda like the Star Wars of gaming...

If its for sales alone is not fair to Halo ... GT older franchise , by few years even
