https://variety.com/2019/tv/news/halo-series-showtime-cast-bokeem-woodbine-natascha-mcelhone-1203289404/

The premium cabler announced Friday that Natascha McElhone, Bokeem Woodbine, Shabana Azmi, Bentley Kalu, Natasha Culzac, and Kate Kennedy have all joined the series adaptation of the megahit video game. They join previously announced series lead Pablo Schreiber, who will play the Master Chief, and Yerin Ha, who is playing a new character named Kwan Ha.

McElhone will star as two characters: Dr. Catherine Halsey, the creator of the Spartan supersoldiers, and Cortana, the most advanced AI in human history, and potentially the key to the survival of the human race.

In addition her role in the Showtime series “Californication,” McElhone has appeared on shows such as “The First” and “Designated Survivor” in addition to films like “The Truman Show,” “Ronin,” “Solaris,” and “City of Ghosts.”

“Halo” will begin production later this year in Budapest and is slated to air in the first quarter of 2021. The series is produced by Showtime in partnership with 343 Industries and Amblin Television. It will be distributed globally by CBS Studios International.

Do you think they should've had a Halo movie or TV series at least 5 years ago? If MS can make the next Halo on Scarlett good (like a reboot to the series) then it might help this TV show take off.

But right now it seems like Halo is far from its peak days, and some would say at the tail end of its popularity.

That's kind of a try-hard tie-in to SW... Still, you have to understand that whilst there are probably overlapping audiences for this show, they are also trying to attain a new TV audience. Basically, if it's a good enough show, new people will be interested in the franchise.

Way past time. And given how terrible games are to adapt to other mediums, I have no hope for it.

More like 15-20 years too late. I would have been ridiculously hyped around 2004, for sure, but now I couldn't care less.

How is a TV show based on a video game franchise relevant to System Wars?

I think a 2020 release would have been more dope, but a year after Halo Infinite is fine, by then the Scarlett will be well established and give the game a 2nd wind.

I've seen threads on the Pokemon Detective movie and a few other TV/movie announcements here in System Wars though. We could discuss Halo's franchise relevancy and whether its successes (or drop in popularity) will give it legs in the movie and TV world.

They mentioned Amblin Entertainment and 343 Studios as partners. Amblin is Spielberg's company. But I'm not sure how involved he'll be with this Halo project, if at all.
