See for yourself (I used Lost Coast because its a relatively newer version of the Source Engine)

lame MGS4 screens compared to best HL2 screens? yup great comparison right theremingo123
I took screenshots from the first page of Gamespot's album. I didn't hand select them at all. The fact that I could find MGS4 screenshots this terrible proves that it isn't the graphics king by any means.

GS has the worst screenshot quality onn teh web
It wouldn't matter even if that were true, because Metal Gear Solid IV is one hundred times better than Half-Life 2.
Hell, the first one that came out in freaking 1998 is better than every Half-Life game ever created. I still LOVE Half-Life and Valve. I'm just stating the way it is.
Better textures, better facial animations and better lighting.....shall I go on?
A 2004 game beats the Messiah in graphics LMAO.

Come on now, you know that that is the standard way to "compare" two things. I am surprised contrast isn't blown out on the MGS pics as well for that added drama.

I still don't think MGS4 graphically is anything to write home about. Its more about the art style and cinematic nature of the game. The graphics themselves, technically, aren't near the top tier games in graphics. That's not to say its a bad game....I mean god forbid we challenge the graphical prowess of Kojima's mighty masterpiece. The graphics aren't phenomenal. Deal with it fanboys, its still a great game.lockjaw333
I dont think youve played the whole game :(

 Kojima uses only one engine for the cutscene AND gameplay. Also, if you played the game, you would've seen how nicely the game moves from cutscene to gameplay.

lol while i agree that MGS4 looks much better in motion/those screenshots posted, the gameplay is not the level of the cutscenes. Then again, many games aren't. Simple fact, the detail is jacked in cutscenes.

Well..to be honest that MGS4 level does look very weak, like something straight from 2004, but overall ,no MGS4 looks better, a lot better.
HL2 is holding up surprisingly well though

Then post gameplay shots to prove your statement. :| Cutscenes won't convince anyone.

[QUOTE="therealmcc0y"]yea...CGI movies look great =) Hurts right, Sorry but there is not GGi in Metal Gear so you are so impresed that you think is GGI wow you my man are owned. Those cutsences that you saw of metal gear are the same as the game using the same technology, so if you lok the cutsence you don't notice the diference by playing the actual game.MGS4 is the greatest looking console game.

most if not all 3d rendered engines only have one engine lol. Cutscenes feature little to no LOD system, and usually higher geometry counts/texture resolution. It's the nature of a highly scripted event with little A.I or surrounding events that would take CPU/GPU cycles in game.

There is no CGI in any MGS game
no **** u missed the point...i was stating that there practically wasn't any gameplay and that most of it was just cutscenes...so it might as well just have been a damn CGI movie[QUOTE="therealmcc0y"][QUOTE="bungie93"][QUOTE="ChrnoTrigger"]Some more:

They're right, the cutscenes are all in-game graphics. However there's a difference between realtime rendering and pre-rendered cutscenes that people can't seem to fathom.[QUOTE="mingo123"][QUOTE="bungie93"][QUOTE="mingo123"]lame MGS4 screens compared to best HL2 screens? yup great comparison right thereAdrianWerner
