Seems like Sony is truly embracing the Xbox Play Anywhere approach. Remember the time when PS games would never come to PC?😂

“By expanding to PC and mobile, and it must be said… also to live services, we have the opportunity to move from a situation of being present in a very narrow segmentof the overall gaming software market, to being present pretty much everywhere.” Link

They've been testing the water and they like the temperature, so I'm not surprised.

My guess is they will keep some of the single player games exclusive and bring all of the live service games over.

Yep, they bring them all over and it will be goodbye Playstation for me. I'll just build a gaming PC and save some money on subscriptions.

Not only a sub, but also the price of games themselves and a PS Pro that you would inevitably buy. Sony releasing everything on pc is simply telling to the likes of me that they don't want my $700CAD+ on their system and the PS+ sub. I kinda see it being dumb af lol. Who would buy a shitty Switch (other than moms for their 11yo of course) if you could play any of their exclusives (natively) on the Deck and all the portable systems that begin to flood the market? The system would be more worthless than a doorstep.

Yea, I've said it once I'll say it again it will kill their brand. Regardless they want 12 live service games by 2025 so it appears they will probably keep newer single player titles exclusive while making all the live service games multiplat. But we will see.

Cool. I don't want them, but it's going to be great for those who wants to play Sony's games without doing so on underpowered hardware with a shit controller and paid online.

Don't get the it will kill your brand rubbish. Gaming rigs are so super luxurious now that your typical console player will never buy one, the same can be said even before the massive price rise.

"PlayStation first party will NEVER go to pc"

Every cow narrative, until Sony realised over 90% of cows don't buy first party.

Now it's "good business" narrative time. 🤣

The sooner Sony goes fully third party the better. We wont have to worry about them censoring other creators art.

Good - let gamers choose what hardware they want to game on. Plenty of people prefer consoles, but others don't.

I thought console games were built on PC? I don't know tech well so I just assumed. I always see developer offices with them working on games and it looks like all the games are designed on Windows PCs.

Working on games on a PC doesn't mean a game is meant to run on a PC. That's what dev kits are for. They allow developers to deploy their game builds to an environment that those games are meant to run in.

For example, I can build an iOS app on windows, but I can't run it without some sort of simulator or an actual iOS device.

We are getting close to the days that games are released like movies and it doesnt matter what platform you are on. User experience will only depend on how much you want to invest in your hardware... and even your favorite console manufacturers will come out with new yearly models like cell phones so they can stay on the cutting edge.

This will be a benefit to everyone... and you wouldnt run into issues like PS5 is having right now if you could pivot on hardware on a yearly basis.

Sony can use their profits from PC and mobile gaming to acquire more studios, then use those studios to generate more money to acquire other studios. Like a domino effect.

Good stuff. I enjoyed Horizon. I plan to get God of war too at some stage. Spiderman, Wipeout, the Gravity Rush games and ghosts of Tsushima would also be nice. Oh and shadow of the colossus.

And the console that never placed 1st in the overall sales figures.

*On topic*
Doing this may not tank the PlayStation, but will more than likely have an impact on the outlook of the ps5 consumer wise. If they embrace the “Day 1 exclusives to other platforms” methods, it may have a somewhat negative impact on the console as a whole. I’m not saying that this will definitely happen, but it definitely could happen.

Though some will probably jab at the Sony fanbase given how they gave Xbox users grief over Microsoft's UWP approach for years, this is the right direction to go. That being said, they still need to bridge a PS/PC ecosystem, including dual entitlements so users can buy games and enjoy them on both console and PC without the need to double dip, and the ability to carry progress between platforms. Otherwise, they'll still be very far behind on MS in this area by nearly a decade, and their reluctance to move forward on this will be just another anti-consumer move.

unfortunately, I highly doubt Sony will ever do cross-purchase dual entitlement.. honestly, the primary reason Microsoft even does it is to provide value in their own Microsoft/Xbox Store but, even with that, most PC players still buy on Steam instead..

and since Sony doesn't have a PlayStation Store on PC to support, I'd wager they're just going to slap the games on Steam and call it a day.. minimum effort for most benefit..

Ultimately this means Microsoft/Xbox will continue to have the most complete ecosystem across consoles and PC.. but as long as Sony is making money on Steam sales, it likely won't matter to their bottomline..

@Pedro: Sony is in the business of making money. I think they now see that releasing their games on PC will not negatively impact console sales. So, by porting their games to PC, they are essentially printing money.

It's a smart move.

I hope its like cloud gaming and not dumped down games that are made for mobile gaming.
