Geforce GTX 1080 8GB GDDR5X and GTX 1070 8GB GDDR5 (Paper) Launching On 6th May at Nvidia Editor’s Event – Market Availability by Computex 2016 in June

The new lineup of Nvidia GPUs will feature a mix of GDDR5X and GDDR5 memory (HBM2 yields are still not ideal and will debut with the full powered GP100 chip in Q1 2017 next year). All cards presented at this event are expected to exceed the minimum VR spec. We have also seen the reference and cooler shroud design that might end up being on the actual cards part of the GTX 1000 series.

The flagship graphic card of this year, and the first GPU to utilize the brand new GDDR5X standard from Micron, the Nvidia GTX 1080 will be one impressive card. Rocking the GP104-400-A1 GPU flavor the card is expected to feature 2560 CUDA Cores (given a few assumptions about GPCs and the brand new Pascal Architecture). Given that the die size is around the 300mm² mark, we are looking at performance levels roughly faster than the GTX 980 Ti.

The Geforce GTX 1070 8GB GDDR5 with the GP104-200-A1 GPU

This particular piece of graphics technology will feature a cut down GP104 chip. Depending on the amount of Streaming Multiprocessors axed (SMs) you are looking at CUDA Cores in the range of 2048. Considering that the GTX 980 itself had 2048 CUDA Cores, you are looking at a beast of a graphics card (and probably an insane overclocker). Depending on how Nvidia plays the pricing game, this could constitute the sweet spot for value seekers in Nvidia’s 16nm FinFET lineup. We got some beautiful die shots already so we will definitely be seeing this card soon.

Well I guess a $700 graphics card should wreck a $400 console.

A 1080 for around $550 would be nice, otherwise I'm sure a 1070 would be all I need anyway.

Ok so when I say stuff like the PS4 costs $300.....and not everyone has a uber awesome gaming rig....blah blah blah.....and you hermits say in retort some b.s.: this is what I'm talking about.

These cards are going to be high priced....a fraction of ppl will have them....and yet its "PS4 GET REKT DUDE!!!"

Then we'll see screens of 4K (if this card can do alone) whenever discussing a game as if everyone has one....when like 1%, if that, of the Steam community own it.

That said...I've been waiting on the next line of Nvidia cards....going to build a new rig and one of these will be in it.

Not hard to "rekt" something that is always behind the PC market. PC gamers crack me up like consoles were ever going to better than PC spec wise. PS Neo is still going to sell well.

Very likely chances of the price of one of those being more or less to buy a PS4K/Neo + a XB1 Elite.

And just like very other card launch until this point in time, it's not very likely it'll kill anything.

the top end cards most likely cost 2x the price of a console on launch or close to it, dont see it changing

you want the best stuff it'll cost you, just like everything else in life

price vs performance consoles are still going to be ahead, that's not going to change either

Still will be waiting for the 980Ti replacement, not the 980 replacement... Maybe I should go for SLI when they are released... Or for AMD equivalent card.

The 1070, most likely will be the value card like the 970, wont cost $700, will cost nearer $350 if its going to be similar to the 900 series.

I was referring to the other one. The Neo supposedly has the equivalent of a 970 GPU.

Its likely the 1070 will be a lot more powerful than the NEO. (all guesswork for now of course)

Is that supposed to be some kind of ownage? It happens, at least, every two years you muppet.

GTX 1070 = GTX 980

GTX 970 = GTX 780

GTX 770 = GTX 680

GTX 670 = GTX 580

Now we're going to be seeing the same with the PS4, every couple years it'll get refreshed rendering the already out of date previous model even further behind, forcing PS4 gamers to upgrade. All they'll do is convince more and more people to switch to PC from increasingly irrelevant consoles.

2 years my ass that 980ti release on June 2015,it doesn't have a full year on the market yet what the fu** are you smocking...lol

And don't even dare bring the maxwell series enter point,since my argument was't about Maxwell entering the market i was very clear i say 980ti and recently.

That GPU is $600+ so spending that kind of cash to be outdated already by a more powerful GPU in a few months is really not something great.

Specially with the kind of shit many have spew against the PS4 neo,which will be probably here by the 4th year of the PS4 life.

Actually no, 36CU Polaris @911mhz should sit between a 380X and 390 overall. Not including the cpu bottleneck in Neo.

However we have to consider that Polaris will be able to outperform the older GCN's in things like tessellation etc. 380x bests the original 7970, its the 7970ghz from mid 2012 than can match 380x.

I said "at least" every two years which infers that it can happen sooner, please try to comprehend before replying.

Wow, who'd have thought that the newest high end cards from this year would surpass the high end card from last year. I really wish you'd told me that before I bought my 980ti, 780ti, 590 etc. etc. Guess what, prepare to have your mind blown, next year a 1080Ti will be more powerful than a 1080 from this year.

This will screw your mind even more

GTX960 = GTX770

GTX760 = GTX670

GTX660 = GTX570

Astonishing, I know but that the real world for you.

People who build and upgrade their PC's know and understand this and it's not something that any console gamer can use as an advantage for consoles that are so weak, MS, Sony and Nintendo are all upgrading or even completely replacing their current consoles.

Wasn't Pascal supposed to be like the biggest jump ever and now the cards are just "roughly faster than the GTX 980 Ti"? Nvidia milking that semi-monopoly, PC-gaming hurting.

Why would anyone need to upgrade a GTX980Ti? A new card does not render the last one obsolete or render it useless and unusable.

Technically no there is no gpu from 2011 that will best it.

We do know that we can see the a sizable bottleneck from the jaguar cpu, so for all we know the new gpu wont perform any better than a 7970ghz/280x with a proper cpu.

Nah the Neo will be set to run Hitman at graphics setiings close to ultra and locked 30fps or unlocked 40fps avarage at 1440p. Those fucking cards will be bottlenecking there cpus at that level. Will be lucky to touch 30fps at contested areas. If things were set low mid then yeah. It will be a situation where you pick your battlefield, stay away on gpu bound games or increased gpu tasks.

Also Hitman will only allow up to medium texture at that resolution for those cards.
