I haven't played V, but I know San Andreas is widely considered to be the best in the series. It certainly is my favorite GTA game.

To be honest, I had more fun playing San Andreas then GTAV but however, I like Franklin more so then CJ and Franklin ain't got nothing on CJ for a black guy. San Andreas also had the infamous controversial and that is, The Hot Coffee cheat. Rockstar sure tried to blame it on PC gamers that it was a mod but when we found out it was also on PS2, then shit really hit the fan.

I prefer the storyline, characters, music, the map and the stuff there is to do in San Andreas. I prefer the modern day settings, the cars, the missions and gameplay of gta V. I give it to gta V, but not by much. San Andreas was my favorite game of all time until gta V came out.

San Andreas is my pick, but I love V as well. Both bring really great stuff to the table and some not so great stuff. I still play San Andreas and that shit still be fun.

That's a really tough one. I'm going with San Andreas for a few reasons.

  • It was such a huge improvement over GTA III and Vice City from a gameplay standpoint. No more drowning when your character got a little bit of water on him.
  • There was so much to do
  • The variety and character of the three unique cities and countryside made exploration worthwhile.
  • The story and the music were from my childhood. I was in my early-mid teens in the early 90s and vividly remember the events that inspired San Andreas' story.

All that said, GTA V is a very close second. As much as I enjoyed the environment of Vice City, the map and gameplay of San Andreas and GTA V are vastly superior. San Andreas, remade with today's technology, would possibly be my favorite game ever.

Does this include 4 and 5? I didn't know this, I thought everyone jumped on the GTA 4 and 5 bandwagon.

For some reason I stopped after GTA 3 and Vice City. Just couldn't get back into the others.

Yeah, includes 4 and 5. 4 is considered a major disappointment, 5 is considered to be one of, if not the, best games in the series. But San Andreas reigns supreme.

GTA V reigns over San Andreas for me. Aside from the story and the soundtrack, GTA V upstages all other aspects of San Andreas, from the world to the interaction you as a player have with it. I'm still playing GTA:O actively, from last gen in the Xbox 360 to this day in my PS4.

Well I did enjoy SA way more back in the day, than V when I played it a few months ago. V, despite all the technological prowess and advancements, seemed to be missing something special. Maybe the story? Don't know for sure, but something was missing.

Definitely San Andreas... had a much more engaging story & better characters than any other GTA.

How cool would it be to have a proper remake of SA, with all the detail of GTA V?!?!? Damn!!

I played San Andreas from launch until GTA IV came out. Literally every week with a buddy. It'll always have a special place in my ole gaming heart, but V is the better game. And it's still growing.

San Andreas.

Nothing wrong with 5, but SA was so much fun back then and still is.

San Andreas because of the huge scale, I feel like GTA5 is so small, I drive for 3 minutes and I'm across half the map. Not sure if San Andreas is simply the biggest map but it sure felt like it even if a lot of it was wasteland and barren which was fun to simply get lost in and enjoy the hills/rivers/valleys in an off roader.

GTA V for days. It did something different everywhere unlike some of the GTA games. It was refreshing after a bit of a boring (fun though) but dark/gritty GTA IV. Michael with his family is something new in a GTA game. The three character system, driving, heists, etc.

5 wasn't that impressive to me (except on a technical level) It' multiplayer is cool but also a pain in the ass.

San Andreas is still lots of fun, I'd probably take Vice City, and GTA 4 episodes over 5 aswell.

The single player of SA is more fun.
