Microsoft has yet again weighed in on the 1080p/60fps debate that is circling around the Xbox One. UK marketing executive Harvey Eagle says in a new interview that gamers would be challenged to see the differences in resolution and frame rate for Xbox One and PlayStation 4 games on a 60-inch or smaller TV.

Like i said the commnts, unless you put a side by side comparison or bump it in from of people, 95% couldn't tell what a game's resolution is just looking at it.

Ense, why the resolutiongate is what of the dumbest argumenst in gaming that's been out for a while.

Frame rates? Yes, you can tell. This has been proven countelss times, BUT, it does depend on the game and the situation on said game.

I've always found that telling the frame rates ina third person game while simply moving around a location to be near impossible.

FPS games, with a mouse and keyboard? Hell yeah, i can immediatly tell because it affects gameplay.

stupid pr once again on ms part.

stop trying to justify an inferior console. just admit that your console is weaker than the competition. go ahead and celebrate a game when it hits 1080p x 60fps but dont try to justify the console as being JUST AS POWERFUL when it isnt no matter even if its a slight difference or not.

tech nerds feast over dumb crap like this and i find ms pr very annoying or any pr that tries to do this type of thing

True, but it's like the PS4 is much better. Sadly, it can't output stable 60frames at 1080p.

Kind of lame and will only draw unwanted attention...but...

I agree with them. Putting so much weight on minute differences in resolution is silly. Everybody has their own preferences, but if a friend of mine ever said "eww this game is only playing in 720p" i'd probably punch him in the face. I'm sure they would thank me.

there is no "resolution gate" that would imply some sort of conspiracy. Higer resolution looks better than lower resolution it's pretty cut and dry. MS and their nuthuggers need to stop with the spin.

nobody can just look at a game and say it's running in X resolution, thats why we have Pixel counters in the first place.

Cows seem to think they can tell the difference but the truth is you would have to see both versions running side by side to tell if there is any difference.

It's just BS anyway, last gen when a Multiplat ran in HD on the 360 and Sub HD on the PS3 the Cows said that they couldn't tell the difference and it didn't matter yet here they are crooning about resolution all of a sudden.

That being said it must be great for them that for the first time a SONY console is actually the most powerful console on the Market so i suppose we should let them have there moment, they have been waiting a long time for it after all.

Well my consoles are hooked up to a 70" TV so I guess I can't be challenged by Microsoft. Native 1080p> 900p or 720p. Microsoft should just leave this one alone and focus on games.

Hopefully they don't use 60" televisions, because 1080p there is a noticeable difference at that size.

42" or below is where they should do it.

Is there an actual link for this? There were some significant difference early on when the XB1 has just launched. That gap has been steadily closing since the software patch and new SDK's have been sent out. Once DX12 launches and the Cloud is fully utilized, there won't be any gap anymore. Games will look and run exactly the same or even better is some cases. Microsoft launched a system that wasn't ready to be launched. That is why the system struggled early on. You notice there aren't anymore 720P or 792P games being announced now and Titanfall may be upgraded to 900P or 1080P before the end of the year.

Nobody denies that higher resolution is better. The issue is that noticing the difference between 720 and 900p or 900 and 1080p is so difficult, that's it should a non issue.

Of course, fanboys turned it into an issue.

The difference is pretty obvious to me. No more excuses please. These consoles (both) are perfectly capable of great graphics + high performance, and there are already a few games to orove it. 1080p60 should be mandatory by now.

Umm... he's right. Sorry to burst all the cows bubbles, but you really can't tell a difference. And, if by some miracle you have had eagle eyes transplanted, the difference is not what the cows claim it is.

As Sniper III clearly illustrates, when a game tries to run the same on both platforms, the results are pretty disastrous.

Ugh, what was microsoft thinking when they stated this. This is pretty bad. I really hope the company reverses this statement. It was one spokesman who made a stupid difference ."60-inch or smaller TV". What is the point of a 720p/1080p/1440p monitor then... There is a huge difference in those resolutions. There is a huge difference in 30fps to 60fps.

This is just one of the worst damage control attempts I have seen.

I think one day people should post XB1 screens as PS4 screens and vice versa. Just to see if they still claim superiority.

You got me there. I keep forgettign about MGS. But to be 100% fair, it doens't look "that" next gen. Looks great, thought. I'm acually surprised get it at 60. I haven't been folowwing MGS, so i can't speak for it.

But it's actually pretty weird, when you consider that the PS4 can't do stable 60fps with Sniper Elite V3. I haven't played it yet, but isn't it a linear world?

I am interested in seeing how Evolve turns out since it doens't have a last gen version.

They should be putting this money into talent, not publicity stunts. To add insult to injury, a statement like this is more or less admitting that the other console is better technology. I know it isn't a completely fair comparison as consoles are different now than they were in the past, but during the snes/genesis years sega and nintendo would find various ways to "one up" the competition through actual games, in addition to the ads.

Haven't played it eather. Its not that PS4 (or even X1) can't run Sniper Elite 3 at stable 60fps. Both consoles can run every game at native 1080p and stable 60fps, as long as devs polish it more and cut on other things.

There is a reason there is a site called DigitalFoundry. Because even guys at gaf can't tell the difference. Latest games where they boasted 1080P for the PS4. Watching videos and then seeing the truth.

Before seeing the digitalfoundry breakdown. These were beliefs to be facts at GAF.

Killzone Multi-player Interlaced. They had no clue. Thought it was 1080p for over a month.

WatchDogs being 1080p . No clue. It was 900p.

UFC 1080p on the PS4. 900p when released.

They were wrong on all these games before DigitalFoundry analyzed them.

You think this guy doesn't have a point? The proof is out there.

Most everyone thought it was 1080p for killzone. Maybe was just good developing to cover it, who knows? MS players never had that mistake in resolution perception.

The other things, as far as I remember, were never said to be 1080p from looking at it, but from news releases.

This isn't about what Cows believed before the DF breakdown. It's X1 VS PS4, I'm disappointed at such a poor attempt at damage control. The fact is you can see the difference in frames, you might not see the difference in resolution because it's upscaled to 1080p.
