I mean really? RPG elements in wolfenstein game? machinegames first add cinematic COD elements, now RPG in wolfenstein. good job destroying old school id software franchise and not only that but also turn it into worst FPS series currently.Meanwhile IGN gave it

RTCW even by gray matter was still feel like id software game and they assist them. some even claim RTCW was real Doom 3.

I watched Alanah Pearce's (former IGN editor, now with Funhaus/Inside Gaming) video on this game, and immediately threw it my Pass Bin.

If I wanted to play Destiny, I would play Destiny.

exactly. no overly long cinematics, no bad design, no RPG elements crap or bulletsponges enemies.

machinegames continue to embarrass themselves.

This game looks disappointing. I'll only play it if I get the chance to borrow it for free one day.

RTCW definitely has bulletsponge enemies, but they're implanted well.

I agree with the sentiment of "everything needs RPG elements". Alot of the time it's kinda just a shitty lazy design than rewarding the player through stuff like exploration, choice or skill.

When you need to be level 10 to throw a flash-bang in a Ghost Recon game, something has went horribly wrong.

You sure spend a lot time bitching about games you don't like and don't want to play. Its must be really stressing that it is rated the same as Metro Exodus on this site.

@uninspiredcup: Heck, wolfenstein worked perfectly fine as a linear shooter. Why does this one have to have enemy levels and big healthbars on top of enemies? That's hella stupid.

This game trying to be like Destiny and The Division just has me shaking my head.

It's made by Machinegames and Arkane, comon, this game was supposed to be GOLD!!!

I'm hearing alot of complaints about rpg mechanics and bullet sponge enemies, but I'm not necessarily convinced that that is a bad thing.

Frankly I'm glad that they've spiced things up a bit from the last two installments.

Still, I'll probably have to actually play it first to formulate a proper opinion.

Mixed reviews it seems... but I'm not liking what I'm seeing tbh (ever since E3, I've been worried that this won't be the same Wolf experience as Wolf 1 & 2 - which is what I wanted).

One person I wanted to hear from is Alanah Pearce, who is a massive fan of Wolf 1 & 2. She seems to be pretty disappointed with it overall... this game seems to be almost a Destiny-style game. Ewwww.

Loading Video...

Anyway, this better not be the direction they're going with Wolf 3, or I'm not going near it!

Yup, same here. I just wanted another game like Wolfenstein 1&2. I mean, the old blood was a deviation too. But this new game just seems to be targetted at a whole different playerbase.

It's always great to abandon your playerbase for Destiny and Division gamers when those gamers might, you know, already be playing Destiny and Division...

If this is the direction for Wolf 3 as well (enemy levels, healthbars above enemies, grind currency). I'm definitely not getting it.

Quote me where I was praising Wolfenstein: Youngblood.

Game looks absolutely horrible with loot, paid loot, enemy levels and ... sigh, healthbars above enemies.

Still think Youngblood looks horrible.

I have two different thoughts about the changes in design that probably overlap to some degree:

* This is just a chance for MachineGames/Bethesda to test out various things on a low-risk $30 game before diving headlong into production of "Wolfenstein III," not unlike Major League Baseball testing out various new rules in the Atlantic League.

* The single-player "Wolfenstein" games, much like the "Dishonored" series, didn't meet Bethesda's sales expectations, so something had to change before it consigned to becoming a brand slapped on a Match-3/endless runner/phone game. Alienating (or as you put it, abandoning) part of your already-existing playerbase in exchange for a possible larger one is a risky but understandable tactic.

Dishonored 1 was huge success. it was most successful arkane game ever. dishonored 2 failed to meet expectation because its unoptimize game plus its inferior to original game in literally every way. new wolfenstein games are not doing well because they are terrible games. steam reviews are mixed/negative for some reason. they are all overly cinematic games with like worst level design and lack any kind of replay value.

Doom on other had is big success and has insane amount of replay value. machinegames ruined wolfenstein.

Wow, bigger than "Arx Fatalis" AND "Dark Messiah of Might and Magic"? (If you didn't get the sarcasm, the moral of the story: it's easy to become a developer's most successful game ever when its previous games weren't that successful.)

She was under the impression while playing Metal Gear Rising that you couldn't parry because someone on the internet said so lol. It's hard to take people at IGN seriously. This is still my favourite "wait, do N64 games come on carts or discs?" I forget the name of the woman that said it but boy did that have me laughing.

Let's be honest, alot of those Steam reviews will be because it's woman and a perceived political agenda.

And i'm sure alot of the nutjob Polygon/Kotaku plebs will prefer it that way, so they can disregard shit gameplay and turn it into something ideological, as that's what they've been about from the start, using gaming as a platform to vent fanatical left dribble.

Disclaimer - I (correctly and factually) proclaimed this series shit long before all this.

The Incel reviews for this game are harsh. Might be a good game after all.

Another thing to add to list I hate about AAA games: Forced RPG mechanics/RNG, Grind. Does numbers also pop out of enemies as you shoot them? I hate that as well.

@phbz: If you enjoy bullet sponge enemies, MT's, and cringe character writing... You'll love this game.

I missed pure action games like Max payne and Mafia 1. no open world crap, no RPG elements or bulletsponges. just pure badass action and amazing story.

Thank God for Doom and Doom Eternal to save gaming today. pure old school action games we need.

Loathe as I am to agree with Spamthesamethreads4ever I think RPG elements for Wolfenstein are just plain wrong. I've seen a few video reviews and it looks like they literally forced the RPG mechanics into the game as opposed to designing the game around it like in AC Odyssey where it works really well.

I love RPG's it's the genre I play most by far but it just does not suit some franchises and Wolfenstein is absolutely one of them IMO.

You have to wonder if it's Bethesda forcing them into this because they think it's fashionable or it's easier to sell Microtransactions off the back of it or whether it's Machine Games just losing the plot. Possibly a mixture of both, Collossus was just awful the worst most horribly cliched characters I've seen for a long time I'm beginning to wonder if New Order was just a fluke.

Still need to play through Wolfenstein II: New Colossus. Haven't paid much attention to this one. I prefer a straight up shooter though. The less time spent in menus and inventory, the better.

@BassMan: Make sure to make some popcorn first, it's basically a movie.
