Update: Happy birthday Garrett- Nov 30.

Original:

Thief: The Dark Project is becoming 20 years old later this month. Looking Glass Studios masterpiece laid the foundation for shadow based gameplay later adopted by Splinter Cell series. The game still features the most impressive sound design ever seen in a stealth game. I love my Splinter Cell, I love my Metal Gear Solid and Dishonored, but when it comes to "pure" stealth there is nothing like Thief trilogy out there. No wonder it's my favourite game of all time.

And one of the greatest FPS which is Half-Life is also 20 years old this month as well. 1998 was an awesome year for gaming at the time.

I never considered splinter cell a good stealth game, the 'you been detected so you failed' never had any appeal to me, inthief, when detected you were just facing overwhelming odds, but there was still a way too survive. Oh how I loved thief.

The metal gear solid series is certainly good in stealth as well, and if I'm not mistaken, they are the creators of the stealth mechanic. I liked metal gear solid a lot (allthough I only played the first one). But stil not as good as thief in stealth imo.

What is as good as thief in stealth and defenitely one of my all time favourites as well is hitman and hitman 2 silent assassin.

and of course bethesda have mastered the stealth mechanic as well. One of reasons I like bethesda games so much.

The original thief games were great on pc remember playing a thief game on the original Xbox that didn't feel right. Pc is the best way to play the series.

You said that you don't even play PC games though, so you can't even make the comparison.

As with most console casuals on this forum.

@Archangel3371: you see Crackdown 3 mp using AZURE? Fully destructible arenas. Not the city they were hoping for in 2015 but I look forward to trying it in a few months through my Gamepass. Thank you Microsoft, and God bless the United States and viva la Mexico!!!

@bussinrounds: There was a Thief game on the Xbox One that came out a few years ago. I tried it briefly but didn’t really care for it. Anyway when it comes to stealth games in general I prefer the Metal Gear Solid games. Tried some of the other ones like Splinter Cell, Dishonoured, etc. but not of them really kept me interested in them like the MGS games.

6.5/10 imo.

Great studio acquisitions, keeps enlarging their stable. But it was a major advertisement for Game Pass. Don't get me wrong, GP is a great value and keeps getting better but it focused on that a lot.

Sea of Thieves Arena looks to be a lot of fun. Just competitive war between crews.

Great look at DMC5. That game looks better and better.

You may not agree with everything in this video but it makes some good points why Thief is awesome. Plus your opinion doesn't carry much weight if you haven't finished all the major stealth games before comparing them.

Ubisoft “fighting for resources” to make new Splinter Cell. That’s fucking great! Maybe in 5 years we can get another Kung fu abortion like Blacklist with multiplayer no less. HHHHHNNNNNNNNNNNNN!!!

That was Thief 3, which was consolized and not as good as the first 2 on PC. Still a pretty good game though and def much better than running around with assault guns in a stealth game watching 20 minute cut scenes of convoluted political conspiracy bullshit.

Thief vs AAA gaming was a good vid and everybody should watch it.

I wonder how many people who say they like a different Stealth game more have actually even played Thief to know either way
