Gran Turismo Tech Demo to be shown in 4k resolution. Forza who?

But the story:

Polyphony Digital has announced theyll be showing off a special version of Gran Turismo at Sonys Dramatic 4K Experience in Japan.



The game will be running at 4K resolution, the new video standard which touts four times the 1920×1080 resolution of current HDTVs, and is powered by four PlayStation 3 consoles.

Sony and other electronics manufacturers are hoping the future video standard will drive new purchases from consumers, and the PlayStation 4 itself is widely expected to support the high resolution.

Astute Gran Turismo observers will recall this actually isnt the first time Polyphony Digital has shown this technical demo of their game running at 4K; in 2008, at the DownShift 2008 session celebrating the series ten-year anniversary, a copy of GT5 Prologue was shown at 4x HD resolution, while another was running at 240 frames per second.

The Dramatic 4K Experience is open to the public and can be found in the OPUS Communication Zone at the Sony Building in Tokyo throughout the month of October.

I.. don't really care much about Gran Turismo at this point, but I'm all in for the sh1t and giggle this thread will eventually bring.

So what say you? PS4 launch title? BS? something in between to be released some time before we all die? Oh and it's called "Dramatic 4k Experience". Wtf:lol:

This reminds me of how they showed off what GT4 would look like in 1080p back in an E3 demo. They did it for a good 15 minutes and it didn't impress anybody.

A low-mid range PC? yeah right. Even a single HIGH end card, right now in 2012, is going to start to choke on most games at native 4K. Although we probably aren't too far away, GTX 790 or at the very latest GTX 890 will probably be seriously doing that. But hardly "low-mid ranged".

I doubt PS4 will be doing 4K either, just 4K film playback. I dont' see it supporting native 4K games, because as of now in order to cool such a GPU you would need a huge tower, possibly with 2 or 3 GPU's, and plenty of fans if not water cooling.

yeah, cuz 4k resolution will make navigating that god awful u.i. and grinding forever to get to the good part of the game all better.

poor poor poly, still showing us how they understand nothing about designing a modern game and what a joke of a dev they have become.

Would be very keen to see.

But atleast make sure all the cars look current gen in the next GT. If GT is about the love of cars, you can't prioritise some cars visuals over others.

My AMD Radeon HD 7950 @ 1Ghz (or incoming Radeon HD 8870) can run console game ports (with console detail settings) at ~8 megapixels.

4K UHD has a resolution of 3840 x 2160p (8.3 megapixels).

I'm currently running at 5760x1080p (6.2 megapixels via AMD Eyefinity) and console game ports are not a problem ATM.

How about making your game run in "proper" (meaning, not upscaled) 1080p first?

I like the idea of connecting four consoles and getting that res but I don't think the game (GT6?) will actually support that.

They demoed GT5 on four PS4s and a large res (4x 1080p) projector too btw.
