PlayStation 5 exclusive Gran Turismo 7 has been pushed back to 2022, with the global pandemic impacting its development as it misses its original 2021 target.

The news came as part of a GQ interview with Jim Ryan, where more details were also shared on the next generation of PlayStation VR - another candidate for release in 2022, and a likely target for Gran Turismo 7 when it comes out.

"GT7 has been impacted by Covid-related production challenges and therefore will shift from 2021 to 2022," Sony said in a short official statement. "With the ongoing pandemic, it's a dynamic and changing situation and some critical aspects of game production have been slowed over the past several months. We'll share more specifics on GT7's release date when available."

GT7 is the game that would make me buy a PS5 so pretty disappointed with this announcement. But 2021 will be the year of the delay so was expected I guess.

Well this sucks. I was under the impression it was a summer release.

Yeah, they implied heavily it was a launch window release. But I guess COVID put a stop to that.

....actually if it came as a pack-in with the PSVR2 kit that could be an amazing way to launch PSVR2. still sell it separately for those who don't want VR but a bundle could sell quite well.

This is because SONY cares about the safety of it’s developers. If this was microsoft/amazon(same thing) they pay people 10 an hour and force them to do warehouse stuff

Not really into racers but I hope this succeeds. It's one of the most beloved franchises in gaming. Better to delay than pull a cyberpunk 2077.

Just use covid as an excuse for any missed deadline, everyone does these days. Here are games that are not coming in 2021.

There are so many good sim racing games out already that it doesn't really matter. Gran Turismo is nothing special these days.

Fken hell I been waiting for this game. So that is why there is a new update to GT Sport, they plan to support it while working on GT7.

Not surprised by this, has any GT game actually released on time? Guess I'll keep playing GTS for another year...which isn't a bad thing at all.

By the time GT7 comes out, i'll move to Australia and do some split screen coop with I_P. He is not very good, tho, so i'll let him win a few races.

With the video game industry being one of the easiest to actually work at home doing, I see "but..but.. Covid!" as a poor excuse.

Not yet but rather than playing with 7 reskinned version of Honda civic and Golf GTi in Forza 7 we did get the best online racing sim, community and amazing engine sound in GTS.

I guess we'll get a GT7 paid demo... I mean 'prologue' before the full fat release like with previous GT games.

At this rate it's probably best to wait a few years for the slim models of each console.
