The big narrative was, "Sony has to copy gamepass or will fail because of all the money it makes"

You fools simply MADE UP a number like 200k user base paying $15 a month x 12 number and then said how much more money it would make than Sony simply selling 10 million for an exclusive.

The problem with that argument was ALWAYS assuming people would consistently pay $15 a month for 12 months straight. Moronic I know but I know I am not the only one who has seen these arguments, and I'm sure you have too Mr amnesia.

There NO game on the market whose sales are even remotely comparable to its console lifetime sales, unless its a game bundled with the console like Wii Sports. Not even Halo, that was THE reason to buy an Xbox sold closely to its console lifetime sales.

Nintendo is like king of bundles. They had a MK8 bundle with both of their last consoles. And I'm not sure how many Switch bundles there are, but it's a lot.

Edit: I was curious, so I checked. Nintendo currently have 15 different Switch bundles. lol. They probably don't even do the bundled games any favors anymore with that many. :P

There are bundles with other stuff like controllers and other games but no GoW Ragnarok. Yeah, its a shitty practice that retailers are doing in order to get more stuff sold but still, not really much of an argument when you can find bundles without Ragnarok

Because Xbox fandom get mad when first party games of the "rival" sell well. For Sony games it's always the "but bundles... or else it wouldn't sell that much" excuse. That's all they got.

GOW Ragnarok for example in UK only :

For GOWR we knew bundles were around 38% of all PS5 sold in November (which would translate to 40k copies or so). We didn't get a December %.

January GOWR bundle numbers should be around 30-35k assuming PS5 sold like half of the total consoles (125k according to the article).

We know GOWR total physical sales were ~425k as of January 21.

For Horizon the bundles could translate to 108k copies (estimate thanks to Xevross from Install Base forum). We know that at the end of November HFW sold between 350k-395k physical copies, so we are probably talking about close to 30% or so of those. IIRC digital for Horizon was around 50% at launch, so when we look at the whole picture bundles won't account for more than 20-25% of the total sales.

So like Chris Dring said a while ago on his twitter, while the bundles certainly help, they only represent a small fraction of the overall sales.
